one of the funniest conversations I ever had with my ex was when they were still getting used to Celsius and asked me "what's 20 degrees?" and instead of converting it, I said "it's the highest your dad will ever let you set the thermostat and when you say you're cold he tells you to put on another sweater, we're not made of money" and they went "oh, 68"

Because of Natasha’s past, seeing kids die when she’s on a mission hits her hard. She blames herself, and replays it over and over, reads the mission report extensively, and doesn’t sleep trying to figure out what went wrong and how to prevent it next time. If she can’t figure out how to stop it (which is most times, because it’s very rarely something that could be avoided) she gets dangerously self-destructive.

After a few times of this happening, Clint and Maria can recognize by her face when that’s happened. She’ll come back from a mission with the Look, and Clint and Maria will make sure one or both of them stays with her that night. Natasha insists she’s fine and wants to focus on the report by herself, but the night always ends with her crying in their arms and thanking them for staying.

Natasha thinks that she can do all the good things in the world, save any number of people, fight whoever it takes, but will never be able to bring my those kids. (some she fought when she was a child herself, some she had to kill as part of Red Room missions, some were simply collateral, some cried in her arms when she knew she couldn't save them) She will never forget their faces.

This has been said before by people better at articulating their opinions than me, but the bad reception Black Widow got from male MCU fans is about so much more than just the simple concept that it's a superhero movie starring a woman, but the fact that it's so clearly a film by women for women. It's in all the little things, like all the amazing braids sported by the female characters instead of having them constantly fight with their hair down, Yelena and Natasha being excited about the vest and all its pockets, zero sexualisation of any of the Widows, the forced hysterectomy being discussed matter-of-factly, and the women getting to wear minimal to no make-up in settings where that makes sense. But it's also in the big things, like the story centred around the epidemic of girls being subjected to human trafficking with a theme of reclaiming your anatomy and freeing other female victims, both others and your own.

Obviously this doesn't mean that every single woman on earth is automatically gonna identify with and like the movie, that's an impossible achievement. But it is a movie that's so much more than pandering, and these geeks are just completely incapable of inserting themselves into a point of view different from their own.

the joy Yelena has for her pockets (which is so cute and tragically heartbreaking) alone shows this cos lord knows women's stuff lacks pockets and a brainwashed spy knowing this speaks volumes.

plus the piercings being objectively a hinderence to their fighting but still kept- honestly cherry on the top and not just because it highlights their desire for bodily autonomy; general desire to control their inner and outer perceptions (plus it looks cool).

The funniest part of A New Hope is that Luke Skywalker is a 19 year old who has not locked in yet and plays with toys and sleeps in his childhood bedroom at his aunt and uncle’s house and Leia Organa is a 19 year old with a mission to save the galaxy from fascism. Luke has never left his hometown, Leia just watched her planet be blown up. He’s peeved his uncle is asking him to do his chores, she’s imprisoned for resisting the government. You relate to them both but they’re on complete opposite sides of the 19 year old life stage spectrum.

Sure, she felt something akin to a twinge of sympathy when she saw Wanda's haunted, puffy eyes each morning in the kitchen, but that was about the extent of it. When these feelings did prickle at her conscience, she shut them out forcefully and willed herself to remember what pain Wanda was capable of inflicing. Natasha relieved the horrors of her past much more frequently now due to the manipulation of her mind at the hands of the little witch and that was not something she could forgive or forget.

Natasha and Wanda both have issues and they help each other figure them out.
