People were so super sweet about my Yugi 💕💕💕 Thank you! I put together the details for making these if you wanted to do it yourself!
(Sorry abt photo quality!)
After you follow these adjustments, his face will look like this!
Which is pretty cute! To go further, you will have to fill in his eyes with facepaint, something like this:
-Yugi is able to do blinking expressions just fine, but be warned that his shocked face is kind of scary lol. To me, it is a small price to pay for such a yugi-faced yugi the rest of the time.
COULD you just draw in the eye outline like this without fiddling with the eyelashes and stuff? Yes. But i like to try using the mii face pieces as much as possible. Anything built with the mii eyes will disappear when expressing, so you can use that to your advantage to try avoiding The scary face...
-His mii hair is one solid color, with the shortest bangs option. Any two-tone gradients will interfere with the illusion that makes the top hair spike appear taller than what the face-paint box allows you to draw.
The illusion of that middle hair spike is key. Draw the black as high as it can fit, but make sure it still ends in a point. I put a bit of the red/pink around it to make sure it still looks like part of his hair at different angles.
-I think placing a highlight along the top edge of each hair spike (minus the middle) helps blend it with the mii style of hair. Use either the outline tool or lock transparency (or both) to do this.
-You are, of course, on your own for the bangs. Placing a bit of skin-tone shadow under them adds depth. Don’t be scared to draw hair against his jawline.
The right side has a fake, drawn-in ear to create the illusion of his hair behind his head, which helps give it its volume. There’s a little hole at the earlobe to catch real shadows in certain light, which adds juust a little more pop.
Good luck if you make this Yugi! I think he is super cute! ♡
-For Yami, I just copied the Yugi mii and made everything black 👍 If you’re not making Yugi, just draw the same hair shape without all the extra details. Way easier! A couple more wisps up top for his extra bangs would be good too.
-He has no eyes, they’re entirely drawn in glowing facepaint, but I did adjust his mouth/eyebrows to be a little more Yami-oriented since you can faintly see his facial features in certain lights, which I think is neat!
(Illuminated face paint option is in the smiley face button next to the preview)
-The dark shadows under his bangs and eyes really bring out that devious Yami Bakura charm
-For the hair, my best advice is to just not fight the fact that he is a mii, I guess? Envision his bangs as simple cel-shaded polygons, like the rest. If you picked the same mii bangs as me, you can’t draw over them, but you can sneak some hard shadows under a few key areas.
-Again, adding the top outline helps blend with the mii hair, especially with his wings against the white. Outline tool + Lock transparency to draw along that top edge.
-I put a light grey two-tone gradient in his hair for some extra color (lavender or blue would look good too) and I extended this gradient to his bangs by using the Layered pen tool, and building up shade with strokes of the darker and lighter color over and over.
If you just wanted to cel shade these parts of the bangs, like I did with the wings, I think that would look just as good.
