Control I'm not coming back is actually so good, hits you right in the feels.
It truly is one of the most human things I've ever seen. To move forward despite it all. Got injected with that hopium.

"Now I realize I never wanted to do this alone."
Played Control, I'm Not Coming Back two days ago, and the final scene hit me so hard I knew I had to make something for it!
I've never drawn a spacesuit nor a probe before so this was a huge step out of my comfort zone. I wasn't confident at the beginning that I'd like the end result...
...but I kept moving forward :)
and the universe said I love you because you are love
artemis iii crew getting announced tomorrow everyone say your goodbyes to ryan gosling
i have recently finished Annihilation by Jeff VanderMeer and thought this scene would look nice as an illustration or a comic page so here it is. more cosmic horrors yaaay, highly recommend
I’m obsessed with the Biologist and Crawler mii’s I made in Tomodachi Life.. their houses are a Southern Reach tent and the tower!! I’m still waiting to unlock the lighthouse decoration item for the final touch
Do you think we're friends in other universes too?
they hit the fucking drawfeegon
i dont think im ever gonna get over the scene where rocky finds out grace isnt going home.
the little foot stomps when he says question, which is something he does every time but are infused with actual frustration while he interrogates grace
the sulky way he says no again and again when grace tries to get him to give him a thumbs up
the way grace's voice breaks when we says "we got stars to save."
"need word. to risk self to save other." / "dumb." and then writes brave with this sort of painful pride because he doesnt know yet
the way grace steps away to have a moment to himself
rocky doing the math on his claws. "i can give. i go home six years slower."
the resolve in rocky's voice when he says he couldnt fix his crew but he can fix this, and grace go home
the way grace's breath hitches when he breaks down
"okay."
"i thought you made peace, question?" / "i didnt mean any of that. that's just something you say."
ending with the hug which is plain adorable.
like fuck me it is so perfect. front to back perfect. the performances are so good. like i have a lot of favorite scenes in this movie but it is up there.
the main reason grace and rocky are sooooooooooo everything to me and to each other is because like, are they soulmates? yes. are they best friends? of course. are they doing nerd telepathy? absolutely. BUT WAIT THERE'S MORE!!! imagine for a moment that you could never again consult a human being on anything, ever. anything that happens to you medically mentally emotionally etc you have to figure out for yourself. you have textbooks and resources you can consult but if you're delirious with pain or fever or panic you cannot reach out to anyone who knows what it is like to be a human who can help you. no one can ever tell you yes i have experienced that too. the closest thing grace has to another human being is his rock spider best friend, and he taught rocky everything he knows about being human. how terrifying must that be!! how exhausting and isolating!! and how utterly moved and relieved and floored must grace be each and every time rocky observes something about the human animal that grace didn't teach him, or deliberately learns something from mary, or picks up some mannerism unconsciously despite grace not intending to pass it along. like, i am the only human on this whole planet, there is no one here with whom i have shared bodily or emotional experience, but that's okay because you loved me enough that you became half-human too. so i wouldn't be alone. so i would have help. rocky is all of earth for grace and he became that willingly and he doesn't regret it for a second. that's a level of devotion and care and codependency you just don't see every day
Some progress! Here's a handful of Rocky's words out of the ~26 identified so far. The sound designers of Project Hail Mary really didn't need to go this far.
The beach being full aspect ratio...... foreshadowing that the beach isn't on Earth
Very cool sound design detail! I saw an interview where James Ortiz talked about trying to give Rocky an emotional character arc, something that was absent in the book and script. He talked about telling the story of trauma recovery physically through Rocky's body language. How he wanted the audience to feel Rocky's journey from shell-shocked to feeling comfortable in his own body again.
And, while I have no idea if James communicated that intent to the sound designers, it seems like it's reflected in the sound design with Rocky's echolocation noise.
He makes this sound when he's trying to "look" closely at something, usually objects. The cool thing is, he also does it when he feels insecure. Whenever he gets vulnerable and uncomfortable he pings this noise at Grace. It's like looking really closely at someone because you're anxious to know what they're thinking.
He goes from doing it before and after every sentence, to less and less as they get familiar with each other. He's suddenly doing it non-stop again for the whole one-way trip conversation, when Grace is actively hiding his emotions from him. It doesn't show up again after that until the end when he hesitates before calling Grace "brave".
Really good detail.
been meaning to draw them as this peanuts comic for a minute now. i asked my friend rocky he said 🎵❗️
thinking about the (english-translated) lyrics to pō atarau, the māori folk song that plays when the hail mary and the blip-a separate.
farewell, / but return again / to your loved one, / weeping here
Made a post before about how the uncredited sexy rocky voice was totally done by James Ortiz, but I wanted confirmation on this so I hopped over to cameo! He gives some really good behind the scenes bits here too.
