I also know Thailand and Sri Lanka have their versions of a lungi as well.
Regarding your tags on the lalwine gifset, they had an intimacy coordinator, a closed set for the love scenes and only women were allowed in the room (I read that they even had like women who worked in different areas holding mics and stuff so that all the men could leave the room), and i also read that jingjing suggested some things for the love scenes
Good to know! Where have they talked about having an intimacy coordinator? I'd love to see what they said on the subject. I'm always glad to know that these talented actresses are being given the best conditions to perform their craft.
Interviewer: As actresses, I'm curious if there's anything valuable you've learned while working on a GL series.
Jan: Speaking from my perspective, it's already been about 10 years since I started acting in dramas. The number of shows I've been in is definitely well over ten. I've taken on a wide variety of roles throughout my career, but leading a full-fledged GL project like this is a genuine first for me. From an actor's standpoint, where you have to convey a character's raw emotions and make them entirely relatable to the audience, what I realised is: The love between two women holds a uniquely tender, gentle quality, along with an incredibly subtle and intricate emotional layer. I'm talking about those microscopic shifts in emotion. This project has given me a much deeper understanding of that emotional sensitivity. At its core, love doesn't draw boundaries or discriminate based on gender or who your partner happens to be. But when a woman connects with another woman, I feel that women inherently possess a nature that is slightly more emotionally perceptive and delicate compared to men. Because of that, it made me go, "Ah, I see! This form of love flows through such intricate steps", allowing me to fully embrace the beautiful depth of this specific genre.
Jingjing: In my case, filming this GL series has given me an entirely new outlook as an actress. I feel like I've discovered a completely fresh dynamic of human connection. The emotional exchange that happened during our creative process was incredibly close-knit and deep, much like a bond that goes way beyond friendship. Through this project, I genuinely feel like I've found the absolute best partner of my life. I mean it from the bottom of my heart.
It is nice to see actors really doing the work to relate to the charecters that they portray, and it really shows in the final product. I think this is the reason why Janhae said that although she has had played charecters that kiss girls before, this time it feels different, that she feels more bashful this time (or as Jingjing put it "feels real").
I surmise that before she didn't feel a difference because she wasn't aware of the nuances of a sapphic relationship and how it differs from a straight one. But because she's a dedicated actress she learned more, and now with this newfound understanding she sees the role with that perspective. Therefore she feels differently about this one.
Same goes for Jingjing it would seem (though as far as I know Jingjing only had one more sapphic role in 'MuTeLuv hello, is this love?'). And it would seem that through making the show she too earned a new perspective and a deeper understanding of the sapphic experience.
This reminds me of Michelle Krusiec. She said that in preparation for her role in 'Saving Face' she broke up with her then boyfriend and explored the sapphic scene to learn more. She said that with the obvious caveat that this is very method, so keep that in mind. And it seemd like it really did work because her performance in that movie is phenomenal!
Be rest assured, I'm not suggesting that this is something that Janhae and Jingjing did, on the contrary, I believe they did no such thing. (They unfortunately seem straight to me. I would love to be proven wrong). It just reminded me of Michelle, and how she got her understanding of sapphic relationships.

friend sent me an Instagram reel yesterday with 1000s of likes that was basically like "pride and prejudice is timeless actually because it's about an autism romance 🥰" and then the creator proceeded to cite moments in the book and film where Lizzie and Darcy are "socially awkward" and....listen. I'm far from an Austen scholar, but I have taught Austen novels as an educator and this kind of psycho-pop analysis that views characters as individuals with autonomy over their actions, rather than tools in a story written at a particular time to say something about that time, pisses me off more than I can say without sounding like an asshole. I'm sorry but Darcy isn't rude and awkward and even cruel to Lizzie because he has autism, he says and does those things because he's a wealthy upper class land owning man raised to see a middle class woman from a large family with no male heirs like Elizabeth as inherently beneath him which he expresses to her multiple times because it is socially acceptable for him to do so in a society where someone like him is privileged above almost all others. He is "socially awkward" around her because of misogyny and classism (PREJUDICE) and she is "socially awkward" around him because a woman of her standing at that time simply wouldn't have had much to do with the gentry but to actually push back against the shit that Darcy says would be social suicide for her whole family so she protests the only way she can which is refusing his advances (PRIDE). not to be the "context collapse is the death of media literacy" guy. But this is the problem with the kind of head empty, let people enjoy things, if I can't relate to it what's the point type crowd. Youse think you're being so quirky justifying incoherent and anachronistic interpretations with your rampant individualism, ensuring that other people never confront anything that challenges them in these stories like patriarchal misogyny and classism. Pride and Prejudice becomes an "autism4autism romance", completely undermining the historical context of its status as one of the great social satires about the class and gender politics that Austen so expertly observed around her. This attitude is why we have nonsensical historical dramas that actively hate history like fucking edgy bdsm "Wuthering Heights", Bridgerton, The Buccaneers, and even a 2025 Frankenstein movie where the monster is just misunderstood and does no wrong uwu etc. because individual relatability and catharsis is king over anything actually saying anything about anything now. Everything is relatable and nothing is meaningful.
Wine, you're not the only one learning here. I want to learn about you too. I want to get to know you better. Let me get past those walls.

I would like to take this opportunity to be sincere and thank Janhae and Jingjing.
First and foremost for being vulnerable and pushing past embarrassment and shyness to deliver absolute stellar performances. This was not easy, especially for Jan, I hope seeing the fruits of their labour make all of it worthwhile.
Secondly, for pushing the envelope, they have said since the beginning of the series airing that the love scenes have levels, that there's an escalation to them, and as we can see there clearly is.
Jingjing said that she helped choreograph the love scenes (from a certain point) and it clearly shows, there's a sense of realism to them, especially in the last gif above. It is one of very few that looked natural(?), I don't really know how to describe it, but they did something very right.
I'm so so glad they had a safe space to creat the show in general and love scenes in particular.

LAL and WINE // ENEMIES WITH BENEFITS, EP2
I know I've rebloged this beautiful gif set before, but I was just struck with the thought of how happy they look. I don't think this kind of joyfulness is seen often in shows, especially with a wlw couple. And more particularly to the show this makes me a bit emotional because Lal and Wine are more similar than they seem, they both crave that connection with someone, and although Lal is a people person, she also has just one close friend, exactly like Wine. It makes this even more special to me that fate brought them together, different but similar.
(I just can't with how happy they look)
I really respect how Janhae was like, “I’m going to pick the hottest girl at GMMTV and make her my GL partner.”
On the flip side imagine being Janhae and the hottest girl at gmmtv AGREES to be your gl partner. What a rush!
