Hey Friends, Have we ever deciphered what exactly is motherhood?? Is it necessarily a boon for all & sundry?? Or is it occasionally an overbearing burden, that overwhelms young women- who just aren't ready for it and wants to run away from it's clutches!!!

How does a failed mother, but successful/established middle aged woman Leda (Olivia Coleman) in a vacation react when confronted with another young woman/mother Nina (Dakota Johnson) who is struggling with the same dilemma/contradiction that she had, when she was her age!!!

Does motherhood come at a cost, more so when you realize that the other woman, with whom you share deep intimacy is unknowingly & unwillingly though- sweeping you of your feet/unsettling you, with the shadows of your questionable past??

How do you react to such a situation? Does it always lead to self realization, or a reconcillation when confronted with that? Or is it simply an act of letting go?

Is motherhood a double edged sword?

All these existential questions on motherhood & womanhood are explored with such finesse/poetry in Maggie Gyllenhal's directorial debut 'The Lost Daughter'- streaming at Netflix, that you can't escape being provoked by this film..

The best part of this film is the director not giving out & explaining things/actions of the characters, rather taking the audience alongside the characters arc- aided by superlative performances, the young Leda special mention, played by Jessie Buckley.. This is a film for your soul.. Complemented by lyrical cinematography via Helene Louvart, Hauntingly Melancholic Background score by Dickon Hinchliffe, Tindersticks..
