Elsa always loved libraries and bookstores. They were quiet, few people bothered her, and she could get lost in another world, or perhaps learn something new. It got her out of the chill of her bedroom, and got her out of the house and away from her work. Though, it could never get her away from her magic. It was the one reason she read so much, to find answers that she didn’t have about her abilities.
Having Anna and Angelique know about her magic was both a good and a bad thing. She felt like a weight had been lifted from her chest, but at the same time, she still didn’t fully know how to control it. She had her own coping skills, some good and others unhealthy, but they all had their flaws. She was starting to realize that she was never going to learn to control it on her own, and after searching and searching for more resources at the bookstore but finding nothing, she left in frustration. She had caught a glimpse of the scene unfolding in the store, a worker or trainee having a meltdown and throwing some books, and all Elsa could think was that she wished she could do the same. Throw some books, maybe freeze the place in frustration. It was tempting, so tempting, but she would never lose her cool in public, knowing she had a reputation to maintain.
She’d exited the bookstore and went near the back of the building, out of sight to inhale and exhale deeply to calm herself down. She’d tried every store in town to find books on magic, and she seemed to be hitting a dead end. Though, her anxieties seemed to melt away as she saw the trainee from the store come around the back, and quite literally shapeshift into another person right in front of her. Her eyes widened, almost speechless for a moment. “Did you just … Weren’t you the person in the store..?”
Paige felt a burning start to fill her chest. She knew she had to be more careful. God, if Hades heard about this she’d have a field day. Paige didn’t let her gaze meet the womans, and when she heard her ask if she was the person in the store, Paige shook her head fast. Lying maybe wasn’t her greatest ability, at least not when caught without any escape route. “I-I think you’ve got the wrong person,” Paige started to ramble, “that person was... unhinged, I mean how could they just throw a copy of Tender Is the Night like that across the room?” She tried to get herself out of this situation with her words, unaware how sketchy it was that she knew what book it was. After a moment of silence, Paige moved her gaze back up to the woman in front of her, and the burning sensation built up more and more until Paige couldn’t handle it. “Fine, okay, okay it was me, but you can’t say anything please, I’m begging,” she had a look of dread on her face as she thought about the consequences, “I-I know my power isn’t a toy but it’s nice to just not be myself sometimes you know, especially when I’m not doing it to do anything bad.” All she ever did now was use her powers at Hades discretion, and it didn’t feel good.
