“  i’m about to play my ace.  ”           @spkmth​,  from  HERE.

HE’S  STILL  UNCOMFORTABLE  IN  CROWDED  PLACES,   which is to be expected from a graveyard b  skulker like allister.     but any battle is worthy of his full attention,  especially one with  piers  as his opponent.     of course this is only for  exhibition,  but ... it’s still a challenge.     more of a challenge than he’s used to.

he’s down to his dusknoir & his gengar,  which patiently waits inside of its dusk ball for allister’s call.     dusknoir is getting tired,  if that’s possible for ghosts,  but the boy is keyed in on how the ghost’s gut  b maw hangs loosely open & its eyelid droops.     he mentally wills it to hang in there a little longer,  purple eyes flashing out from behind the bleak sockets of the mask for only a moment as he turns to regard his opponent.

“  then  play,   piers ...  ”     the masked boy rasps,  raising his arm to alert his dusknoir but not to recall it.     “  show us ... your mastery of the dark ... show us what we know so well ...  ”

TERRA​.

‘ i’m sure he’ll be happy to see you when you find him. ’ 

terra watches the boy’s gengar step forward  &  gives it a nod  ,  his own gengar lets out a  delighted  cry  ,  walking towards the other gengar  &  he grins watching it.  his attention turns back to allister after a moment  ,  he can’t imagine it’s much fun to be worrying about a friend like that. 

‘ allister.  it’s nice to meet you. ’ 

it’s  certainly  a more memorable meeting  ,  after all.  he’s never met anyone in a graveyard before.  he looks out over the area  ,  grateful for the light of the moon  &  thinks for a moment before he says anything else. 

‘ well….my dad always said the best place to start is where you last saw something.  do you remember where you last saw your friend ?? ’

“  DO  YOU ... REALLY  THINK  SO ...?  ”

the young gym leader glances over at his gengar,  which is chirping & burbling happily at the other pokemon with evident glee.     it’s enough to make him smile a little,  the expression lost behind the bleak facade of the mask.     he raises his head a little as he cautiously comes that much closer to the taller man,  the edge of his anxiety dulled a little with the reassurance that he may see his pumpkaboo again.

“  ... i ... it was  here,  ”     allister speaks more evenly this time.     “  we were ... walking ... i   in the woods ... & he got scared away by something in the trees ...  ”

‘ TERRA ’​.

‘ want some help ?? ’ 

terra can tell gengar’s curious  ,  he doesn’t have to be  looking  at him to tell that.  they’ve been together long enough for him to know how his team is feeling.  he offers the boy a small smile  ,  but lets him come forward at his own pace.  last thing he’s trying to do is  scare  the poor kid any more than he already seems to be.  gen

‘ i’m terra.  and this is gengar.  it’s nice to meet you. ’ 

THE  MASKED  BOY  TAKES  A  timid step forward,  hands still nervously toying with his coat.     this  terra  certainly seems gentle enough,  & gengar doesn’t fear anything ... in fact,  it’s making its way over to the pair with a wag of its stubby little tail.

“  ... i   i’m ... allister ...  ”     he utters quietly,  purple eyes visible in a flash before the darkness of the mask consumes them again.     “  & it’s ... my pumpkaboo ... we h   haven’t seen him ... in weeks ...  ”     that’s the boy’s way of affirming what terra had asked.
