The last part I said was to kinda make some of you realize that you are the only one who can handle it, not someone who’s asking you to friend them over on discord to “discuss the appeal” like they’ve been doing for a while now. If they say “I can help you appeal” or “please send a message to x recipient” then it’s absolutely a scam. The only person you should be talking to is tumblr staff through their support page.

Again if they ask you to send a friend request to a supposed “support” account then you’re likely getting hacked.

You *can* potentially act stupid and ask the scammer for the username so you can look it up and report it but I’d honestly just block and move on. They’ll delete the blog most likely after seeing that it didn’t work.

I’m very sure that that blog is completely empty or else they would’ve shown me something. I’m not saying there’s zero chance of them actually owning anything or whatever your concern is but these people are more focused on hacking your account than actually making an effort into making people think the accounts they make are genuine.

Art scammers barely try by reblogging 5 unrelated fanart posts thinking that’s enough to make us think they’re interested in actual commissions…

no. vasttrailsiege is the scammer account. this individual is trying to freak out anyone who receives this message by telling them their "stolen identity" is associated with illegal material, in the hope that the victim contacts a Tumblr support impersonator in an attempt to steal the victim's account. there is no actual csam involved; it is a way of causing panic in the victim.

Okay, here's a rule of thumb I've followed for a couple of decades on various sites (including here) and it's never done me wrong:

If you receive a message that's a single "hi" or "hello" or other one-word communication from someone you don't know, with no immediate follow-up - 99% chance that's a scammer of some kind. Do not reply. Block and move on. Real people leave real messages.

Like if I was going to message a stranger out of the blue, I'd be saying something more like "Hi, I saw that post you did about (subject) and wanted to ask (some question)" or "Hi, I saw you reblog thing, that post is incorrect/a scam/whatever", or "Hi, are you the same (username) as is posting on (other site)?" etc etc etc. A real message, not a phish hook cast in the pond.

I probably block 2-5 random hi's a week on Tumblr, the vast majority of which are new accounts that are supposedly single men or pretending to be famous people. There was one week where it was all Keanu Reeves impersonators. Etc.

Do not fall for the singular single "Hello" messages. That's step #1 in the person who contacted you looking for the gullible and naive.
