I haven’t been on tumblr since 2016 so this is a new account. That’s also why everything is dead sorry !! I've been obsessed with Baldur's Gate 3 since I bought it back in 2021 EA. I was lurking and now I'm here.

So things have changed since disappearing here. I uhauled with my then girlfriend and we lived together for a year and then the day before the election we eloped since my fam isn’t supportive of me being queer. Next day the horrible election results came in so we speed ran moving to the westcoast and out of the deep south (I’m in the US btw).

I feel so much more relaxed in a city that doesn’t have a population that openly hates gay people. It’s significantly improved my life more than I ever thought it could. I went from wondering if I’d get harassed again for holding a woman’s hand in public to seeing openly gay couples living their lives unashamed without even a second glance from others around them.

Things really do get better even if the world isn’t. I will continue to carve out my own happiness if only to live my best, quiet, gay little life.

With this being my last playthrough before launch I decided to be extra silly. Plus my graphics card came in so I wanted to test out the game with max settings. I healed Karlach and played her a tune. I also made my dream lover myself to see how cursed it could be (VERY CURSED). Oh, and max graphics make Astarion's hair look nice. I'm so excited to finally play the finished version of the game!

Larian Studios updated the text on romancing characters in their latest community update to this

so to clarify, none of the companions will be engaging in romance in the background if you play as tav/durge

Correction: Guess no Lae'zel/Shadowheart crack pairing after all. But bonus: At least you get all the companions to yourself!

They (NPCs) might still have the small romances stuff (Lae'zel and Astarion/Wyll). But, the characters won't go further than a one-night fling. That's what I'm thinking anyway. If they took it out completely I could understand the reason for it.

Something I find interesting is that Larian has actually been around since 1996, only a year after BioWare was founded. Divine Divinity, the beginning of the Divinity series worldbuilding (and one not based on an existing IP the way BG and SWTOR are), came out in 2002 (the same year as NWN), still very much in the golden era of classic RPGs.

Obviously they remained a much smaller studio for a long time, but I think a fair bit of that can be attributed to the fact they didn't get taken over by venture capitalists and eventually notoriously ill-reputed corporate giant EA. It meant that Swen Vincke continued to gain just as much development and leadership experience as other legendary industry figures, but with full creative control and no corporate leeches breathing down his neck over quarterly profit margins.

So really, I'd say it's more "BioWare sprinted, stumbled, and ate shit so that Larian Studios could step over their bloated corpse and win the race, Tortoise and the Hare style."
