At least once a month I remember that Ozai ruled for ~3 years. That's shorter than one presidential term. That's nothing. In comparison Zuko - who suffered so much cruelty and was made to feel worthless under Ozai - ruled for ALMOST 70 YEARS. That's more than 22 times the length of Ozai's rule - and he will go down in history as one of the most influential and well loved Fire Lords of all time

Defend cash. The existence of a cash economy  is so so necessary for the survival of every population that the government wants to kill. Homeless people, sex workers, undocumented people, addicts. They all need cash to survive.

Not gonna call out anyone by name (and don’t go into the notes bothering this person either) but like: this is not how that works. If you’re firmly against a cashless society: USE CASH.

Shops and services will not continue to keep cash around for the 1% of people whose survival depend on it. They will keep cash around if their system shows that a lot of customers pay in cash.

If you want to keep cash around, literally the best thing you can do is use cash.

THIIIIIIS. There are so many reasons why people who specifically think of themselves in ‘law abiding’ have to not be that. The one that immediately pops in my head is ‘you are in constant pain and are denied pain killers by the medical system’ which happens all the fucking time and forced old grannies from small towns to figure out how to safely navigate the world of buying drugs illegally. But there are so many other examples.

Just keep in mind that if cops search you and find cash they can claim it is intended to be used in a drug deal and seize it without any evidence other than it being cash. Asset forfeiture laws means you have to go to court to prove the money they stole wasn’t connected to a crime, effectively making it illegal to carry cash if police don’t like you.

2. This is about paying for groceries in cash. Unless that $20 bill I take to the store is my very last $20 bill, I’m not going to consider the slim chances of asset forfeiture on my way to the store, even if I did live in the US. Now of course you can find some heavily policed neighborhoods where specific minorities are intensely targeted, making asset forfeiture much more likely. But I’d say that they do not need your warning. The people being searched by cops on the daily already know not to carry cash. The people that need this warning know. The people that don’t know, don’t need this warning.

3. Sometimes I am, in fact, carrying that cash for a drug deal. And when all the people around me are carrying cash too, it becomes a lot harder to prove that my cash was for a drug deal. So if you care about people who are forced to self-medicate, people who have addictions, and people for whom drugs offer life-enhancing experiences, maintaining a world where most people are carrying some cash is an important part of protecting those people.

My boyfriend was affected by Hurricane Maria, and he told me that people that only relied on digital transactions had wealth to use in the bank, but they couldn’t access it due to the systems being unusable during months-long power outages. That those people were panicking and crying on the streets because of it, completely understandably, because in an instant they’d become effectively flat broke during a crisis.

Carry cash on you. At all times. For emergencies as well as what others in the thread have mentioned. You never know when you’ll need it.

Here’s my (albeit simple) contribution to day one of @zukkaweek 2024! Theme is Ba Sing Se/Jasmine Dragon. I like the idea of them working together in the tea shop when Zuko gets breaks from Fire Lord-ing because he’s like seventeen and DEFINITELY needs mental health retreats lol. Wish I could have spent more time on this but alas; I’m fairly happy with the result :)
