Going to the tidewater peninsulas like northern and middle neck is crazy because it’s like. Oh this is the birthplace of the deep ancestral evil festering at the root of everything it is right here. Colonialism, slavery, genocide, the nexus of capital and blood at the heart of America. But it’s also almost all gone both in material and popular memory.

So many American historical figures were born there and all made themselves by leaving. Tobacco turned the soil to sand and the blood money got drank up or migrated down the river over the years and a lot of the buildings have rotted away or got burned out in the war (Bacon’s, Revolutionary, Civil) and the islands are slowly sinking into the bay. Ozymandias. It’s quiet there now. Flat and greener than green in the summer. The river yawns open. Not much left but the evil. Alternating English aristocratic and indigenous place names. Water in the air, blood in the dirt. Being there feels different.

i think avoidance is such a little-recognized ocd compulsion. all the time i talk to people with ocd who are like "i was always having intrusive thoughts about using kitchen knives and harming myself or others but i'm okay now because i just stopped using knives ever 👍 so i'm good now"

"consent" is not relative to "i need my shirt back" are you actually high??????

"giving someone a spare key does not equal permission for them to enter your house whenever they want" is exactly the point i was trying to make here

also this is obviously very intentionally inflammatory but- leaving a possession at someone's house does not entitle you to then enter their house whenever you want to get said possession back. i hope that helps

i really can't tell if i'm overreacting about this whole thing/ just kind of paranoid but the idea of someone deciding my space is theirs to enter as they wish without my knowledge or permission is giving me a genuine panic attack (even though the actual situation is not particularly that serious.)

i think it's a basic consent thing. being trusted the keys to my house does not mean you're allowed to enter it as you see fit. permission given once isn't permission given forever. if i can't trust you to understand that regarding my space how can i trust you to regarding anything else?

whoops. context here is a partner of mine that had a set of spare keys decided to let themselves into my house to retrieve a piece of clothing and use my bathroom while they knew i was at work. texted me asking if it was okay to and then did so anyways when they didn't recieve a response about it (bc i was at work). this also all happened when my roommate could have been home or asleep...or doing whatever else they wanted while I wasn't home. The response I got was basically "i assumed you'd get it because I really needed to pee and I was in the area." I live in the city next to a ton of cafes, shops, public buildings, etc.
