I be towncrafting 2: Atlantis Boogaloo
Since my last post about village crafting blew up, here’s another funky idea.
I love the way 1.14 made all villages have their own unique little quirks. But before that, 1.13 gave us a new type of village… ocean ruins.
The thing is, these guys are really, REALLY ruined. And that’s kind of the theme of everything on the bottom of the ocean; remnants of things that used to be cool but now, scattered rubble with a few treasure chests and some angry dead guys with big forks.
But 1.13 also brought us an item to bring life to the ocean, and I’m gonna help it along.
The crucial centerpiece for this ocean village, rather than a bell, is an assembled conduit. Without it, not a very fun place to be.
If this were to ever be a thing in Vanilla, maybe just remove the conduit in the middle, let players find that one for themselves.
Here we have a nice refurbished ocean ruin, with a little prismarine roof to bring a bit of color. I’m still on the fence about the prismarine path, but it sure is soothing to watch it slowly change color.
Because beds can’t be waterlogged and there’s no such thing as an underwater flower pot, this required a few tricks.
But just by trying stuff out, I discovered you can surround a bed with stairs which (aren’t?) waterlogged, and somehow it makes everything work.
Speaking of things that work…
Aquariums have always been awful in Minecraft, because the high opacity of the water surface would make everything hard to see.
But we’re underwater now, babey! So this entire “animal pen” aquarium is crystal clear to see. Trapdoors on the top allow you to swim for that sunken loot.
Every village needs a farm. This one produces kelp, seagrass and sea pickles. Fully functional too! Just a bit slow.
Inside the large building is a little area where the kelp can be dried, along with a few blocks of storage. You could survive completely vegan in this village if you wanted to :-)
I had an idea of a ship that was salvaged by the inhabitants to make a little house, and just like that I went and rebuilt an entire ship out of scratch, because there weren’t any close to my village. Yeah I don’t know why I did that either.

Beyond that door lies the library.
Now, that bed technique with the stairs I displayed earlier got me itching to try something else out…
A mermaid bed! Just like a beautiful mermaid, you too can now sleep inside of a giant clam shell. Truly my most refined and pretty design to date.
What, you’re saying it looks like a big toilet? Bah! Post is over!
