Vee's Archaeology Update Pt. 3 - Agates
As part of my Archaeology Anywhere initiative, where suspicious blocks containing unique finds will be found all over the overworld, not just in specific structures, I bring you a new treasure to reward you for bringing your brush on cave-diving expeditions - the Agate.
In the gravel blobs underground, there will be a chance that one of them buried (not exposed to Air or Water blocks, so no scamming the ocean floor for them either) will be replaced by a Suspicious Gravel block. Brushing it has a chance for some other loot, from raw gold to lapis to bones, but will likely reward you with a kind of Agate.
Agates in real life are characterized by bands of differently colored materials in a single gemstone, and are highly prized and come in many different varieties. As a result, the Agate's main use is for decorative armor trimming - while other gems and minerals you can trim your armor with only do it in one color, Agates allow for several varieties of multi-colored armor trims, depending on what type of Agate you find.
Of the nine different Agate varieties, five of them are "Common" types that make up 75% of the Agates that will generate. Of them, these ones can be found slightly more commonly in different biomes. These ones have nice soothing multi-color gradients!
Laguna Agates - a pink/red/orange gradient. Found more commonly in warm lush biomes, like Jungles, Swamps, and Mangroves.
Fire Agates - a red/orange/yellow gradient. Found more commonly in hot arid biomes, like Deserts, Savannas, and Badlands.
Moss Agates - a yellow/lime/green gradient. Found more commonly in lush temperate biomes, like Plains, Forests, Taigas, and Lush Caves.
Lysite Agates - a green/cyan/light-blue gradient. Found more commonly in 'wet' biomes, like Beaches, Oceans, Mushroom Islands, and Dripstone Caves.
Blue Lace Agates - a light-blue/blue/lavender gradient. Found more commonly in frozen biomes, like Snowy Plains, Jagged Peaks, and Windswept Hills.
The remaining four are "rare" Agates, and contain contrasting colors. They are not effected by biome, but that's only because they're already rare enough!
Thunderbird Agates - a brown & blue multicolor.
Crazy Lace Agate - a red, yellow, blue, black & white multicolor.
Zebra Agate - a white & black multicolor.
Candy Agate - a blue & pink multicolor.
Each Agate also has a dedicated block, crafted with 9 of the corresponding Agate and can be decrafted back into those 9. This makes these blocks highly expensive, as you need nine of the same type of Agate, so they're perfect for adorning any player's trophy room or mineral museum!
They also have another use that I will explain, but that one may require some more explaining, and consulting an old friend...
