For the new followers

I'm guessing I know why you've all followed me all of a sudden, but whatever the case, there's a surprising number of you, and I just want to catch you up on who I am and what I do here. This'll probably be repetitive if you're someone who followed me before the whole 196 migration, so if you don't really care, just scroll on by.

So. I call myself Spines. The plural form of the skeletal structure that does most of the shaping of your back. This is because I have a slight obsession with bones and I have near-constant back pain.

I am indeed a furry, and my profile picture is my fursona, but if you can't see it, it's a plain white goat with horns that just out of the forehead and slope back over the head slightly. The ears are long and dangle off the sides of the head. Also, something I don't show very often is that all of the fleshy places are a light blue (inner mouth, tongue, etc. etc.)

What do I do here? Most of the time I reblog memes and make dumb jokes, but occasionally I talk about stories and characters I've written or weird dreams I've had. (An anthropomorphic frog cut my ears off with a rusty pair of scissors, so, yeah, I do mean weird.)

What do I write most? Mainly fantasy and/or sci-fi, but I like to put a bit of science in fantasy, too.

What do I like? Steam engines (You probably know more than me, I just love how they look,) pirates, and, well, magic.

"I want to interact with you, but I'm afraid of being awkward, plus I don't know what we'd talk about." Trust me, you can't be more awkward than me. I always welcome asks or DMs. If you want something to talk about, try asking about my favorite things to write; darkness, evil, corruption, or demons. Trust me, I'll start ranting about it and all the ways they've been poorly used in current fiction.

It feels like I’ve talked about this before, but to me the funniest version of Portal is if Chell is deaf.

Like, most of the major story beats, at least the ones that directly affect her, have a prominent visual component so she’s following along with the basics. But she has no idea who cave johnson is, or what wheatley was trying to explain to her, and she certainly wasn’t hurt by any of glados’ insults.

but the best part of this headcanon is imagining glados checking chell’s personnel file years down the line, noticing the word “deaf” for the first time, and just going “WHAT???”

I feel like I need to share this because idk if Europeans are familiar with the presence of Aldi in the US, but at least especially in my area they’ve been growing a lot recently. Like Aldi bought out some local failing grocery chains where I live (Louisiana) and have opened Aldis in all these somewhat rural communities and small towns, which for the record I’m fine with

But as a result of this they are advertising a lot more in my area and also in many cases, the people in these areas have never been confronted with Aldi or any European grocery store. So the ads that Aldi is pushing out to its new US customer base feature a cowboy shopping at Aldi who is explaining to new Aldi customers how Aldi works. Like this cowboy is explaining you gotta put a quarter in the shopping cart and why there are very little name brands. A cowboy is how they want to reach their American customer base.
