hey, what kind of equipment would you recommend for someone going into this as a hobby? and where do you start to find rocks like whats on this blog?

Rock hammer, 4 pound sledge, masonry chisels, a set of these can come in handy, trowels, flat blade screwdriver or bamboo skewers for getting into pockets, buckets, bags, and toilet paper. That’s a pretty good starter kit.

As for finding the stuff I regularly post, I’ve been at this for years and I still haven’t found them. Stuff on here is mostly from professional miners who have claims. For you to locate such amazing specimens at the start of a collecting career would be from an abundance of luck. Find the beauty in the boring things first, and learn what you can from them.

Hi, so umh, I'm really fascinated by dragon but I really don't know as much as I'ed like to know about them. I would really love to know more but I don't really know where to start?? Would you mind helping me out a bit?

I would love to help you anon.

Now a good place to start would be with “What exactly is a dragon?” And that’s a harder question to answer than you’d think.

Basically you can take it in either one of two directions. You can be inclusive, and say that any vaguely reptilian creature and/or creature that fits a few myth tropes is a dragon. This is the approach I usually take because I like big mythical reptiles and having a single word to call them (even if it’s not 100% accurate), is nice.

However you can also go an exclusive route, and say that a dragon needs to be reptilian AND fit a specific set of features. This is a classification method argued by eaterofentrails here (LINK).

So a good jumping off point is to find out what exactly you’re going to be researching. Once you have done that, you need to find the right sources.

I would avoid books set in specific worlds, such as the Dragonology series and the D&D Draconomicons. They aren’t bad, but they were written specifically for their world and that’s it. The dragons they write about don’t necessarily exist in myth, or if they do exist in myth don’t necessarily follow the rules set down by those books. So while they are good, and I would recommend looking into them eventually, I would avoid them for general research into myth.

I would also recommend looking up and reading a lot of myths. The information won’t be neatly laid out for you, but you can find your own patterns from it.

I also recommend my Dragon Rant and Dragon Info tags, though again me mindful of information coming from specific worlds.

Funny enough, there’s a long history of worker’s struggle in the Appalachians and South.

Redneck Revolt is a good group organizing in these areas around this identity and history.

Yeah regions where mining, agriculture, and similar industries are dominant tend to have a history of socialist organizing and labor agitation, funny how that works

fun fact, the word “redneck” actually comes from the Battle of Blair Mountain, the largest labor uprising in American history, in which 10,000 armed and organized coal miners (United Mine Workers) fought for three days against 3,000 strikebreakers and cops for their right to unionize. the UMW miners wore red kerchiefs on their necks, hence redneck.

Well, the skirt is done! It came out better than I had expected, it looks almost exactly like I had envisioned so i’m really happy. 

It’s made from thirty yards of tulle, five yards of organza, fifteen meters of LED lights, eighteen feet of christmas garlands, wreath mesh, and fake flowers.

The dress runs off of fifteen batteries, which makes it really heavy, but surprisingly easy to move around in.

Anti-villain motivations besides "tragic past"

They do bad things because they’re scared.

They’re gullible or misinformed. Example: somebody who has been told the heroes are out to hurt them.

They are desperate for interaction, validation, kindness, or attention, and the dark side gives them those things. 

They want to change their allegiance, but are pressured by people close to them to stay evil.

They have an otherwise noble goal that they will do literally anything to achieve. Example: somebody who wants to protect their child, even if it means throwing other children into danger.
