So unfortunately I hired the builder working on my back boundary wall to raise all my other boundary walls from 160cm to 180cm so I'd have more privacy and security, but of course I paid the deposit before I saw how truly ugly the back wall is. So 🫠
I do think the other boundary walls are going to look better, because it's a different kind of wall, and they're adding wood to them and not laying bricks. But like. My main issue is just that I hate having people in my space, I hate the noise, I hate that every time I go outside the foreman wants to chat to me and tell me his entire life story over and over again. I hate that every time I go outside I find some new thing the builders have broken or moved or spilled cement on.
Like I had a log in the garden that I had buried the bottom of at least 10cm into the ground and planted flowers around. It is a FEATURE of that garden bed, and has mushrooms growing on it. These guys pull it out of the ground, roll it so the mushrooms are on the bottom, and use it as a seat. Even though there are two other BIGGER logs that are NOT in a garden bed that are INTENDED for sitting on, and a third large log for cutting firewood on that would also be a fine seat. No, they have to pull out the log I placed in the garden. I had to go out and move the log back to it's place, and thankfully they've left it there since, but most of the mushrooms were crushed.
They stood on two of my clivia, and buried one of my ferns under soil. They spilled cement all over my primroses. They've spilled rocks and cement all over the back lawn.
Now that they've started on the other boundary wall, I had 5 plant pots lined up against one wall (not fancy pots, just waiting to be planted in the garden - they used to be planted along the back wall but I dug them up so they wouldn't get damaged). And instead of thinking, "hey since we're working in this spot, let's move these out of the way since they're in plant pots and they'd be really easy to move", they did not do that. And now the one plant that had the wall fall on it in May, and which had managed to grow up 2 new shoots of leaves, now just has 1 new shoot of leaves because these guys managed to break the other one off, and the plastic pot my granadilla was in is now broken, and it was not broken last week.
It's just so frustrating. Like I know I just have control issues and most of these things are not disasters, like I can fix them all eventually and they're not big enough issues to have to tell the foreman to get them to stop doing it. But I haven't worked on my garden in the last week because I just can't right now. My garden isn't a peaceful place at the moment. I avoid going outside until they leave around 4:30pm every day, and then when I do go outside i just check if an plants needs water or not. But every time I go out there I see something they've messed up, and it pisses me off all over again. So I've just decided it's better if I just don't look too closely at anything until the whole process is over and done with, and then i can go out and fix it all in one go when they've finally left.
At least next week I'm going away for a few days so I can just give the foreman my gate key and leave them to it while I'm gone, and I won't be trapped in the house for those days.
