Hi, due past experiencies, wanna let some things really clear:
I will NEVER ask for money no matter the situation. I wanted to make this clear âcause i lost an acount because people used my name for scams. I donât want that to happen again so, if someone with my name ask you for money, report them, thatâs not me.
Anyway, i acept drawing comissions, i just donât charge, i do it for free (not nsfw, +18 or gore).
I'm Yasser⌠a simple man who lost everything đ. I'm 27 years old, from northern Gaza đľđ¸.
My house was destroyed at the beginning of the war. We live in the Shuja'iyya neighborhood in eastern Gaza đď¸. I lost my job, and I was injured during the war and am still suffering đĽđ¤âŚ Now I'm fighting just to keep my family alive.
I'm responsible for a very large family đ¨âđŠâđ§âđŚ:
đ´ My father is elderly and needs care.
đś My young children are innocent.
đ§ My brother has a mental disability, can't work, and has children of his own.
𤰠My wife is pregnant and needs care amidst a complete lack of basic necessities. She needs so much, the simplest of which is clothing.
đ§đ§ My children are Salwa and Massa. My little Massa was born during the height of the war. We were living in my sister's house when my wife went into labor. We were trapped and couldn't leave the house because of the intense shelling all around us. Miraculously, by the grace of God, my wife gave birth to Massa at home.
When we finally managed to leave a week later, the occupation forces demolished my sister's house.
Now we live in tents inside Gaza, destitute. The tents offer no protection from the heat or the winter. In the winter, we suffered greatly, and in the summer, the children developed skin diseases from the extreme heat.
There is no income⌠no work⌠and prices are sky-high. đĽ
We are living through harsh days, caught between hunger and fear. We have nothing but hope in God and in your hearts. đ I never imagined I would have to ask for help, but today⌠I sincerely reach out to you:
Please extend a helping hand đ Any amount, even a small one, can provide food, medicine, and warm clothes for my children.
đ We truly need any help, even the smallest⌠It could mean a meal, medicine, or even just hope for life.
đ¤ Don't leave us alone⌠Your support is our lifeline.
đ Please, from a broken heart⌠Any help, even a small one, could make a huge difference in our lives and help us to keep going and survive.
May God reward you all. Your support will be a light in our lives đ¤
Hello
These are my children. One of them was born during the war inside our home because we couldnât go to the hospital due to the intensity of the war we were living through at that time. Until now, the suffering continues, with shortages of food, medicine, and clothing. I ask you for your prayers and support.
Please share far and wide. We have no one else to turn to.
âHmm⌠who could stole the Arkstone? One of the dwarves iâve known for decades including my heirs⌠OR the BUGLAR that we LITERALLY hired to STEAL the Arkstone?
âNah, Bilbo is too cute and funny and gorgeous
and clever to be a traitor.
And five seconds before he was like:
âNOBODY will touch any of these!!! This treasure is MINE and only MiNE! Oh, Bilbo, take this magic shirt that is the second most valuable thing here. Youâll look sexy in it⌠Safe! I mean youâll be SAFE with it in a fight!
i think if you're worldbuilding psychiatry and mental health into your sci-fi/fantasy world then your first consideration should NOT be "what words would they use to describe our world's mental disorders??" even though that Can sometimes be useful.
granted, i DO prefer a world that slaps "melancholic" on in place of "depression" or "post-birth hyper-grief parental syndrome" onto postpartum depression or whatever, as opposed to just calling everything depression and schizophrenia and ASPD, as if our own western psychiatric words are the """correct""" ones and would logically be emulated by the whole of any other universe.
However.
i think it is MORE useful to think FIRST about your fictional society's values. and the power structures in play, or lack thereof. and how elements like religion and spirituality and magic and sci-fi tech shape and influence everyday life.
mental disorders and neurodivergences are things that mark a person "other" from someone who is the """expected""" product of their environment. crucially, in our own western conceptions of mental health, there is a STORIED history of people being labeled Other because they did not cooperate with the oppressive social norms of the time. see: insane asylums, lobotomies, drapetomania. etc.
how does your fictional society treat people who are Other? is mental health treatment more focused on compliance and the erasure of symptoms, or on self-acceptance and accommodation? is there a taboo against being labeled Other? what is the history of self-advocacy and human rights for people in these groups?
you don't Have to go the pessimist route and write in, like, horrific atrocities as a backdrop for your story. especially if you are not a horror writer like me. LOL.
but i do think it's disingenuous not to think about these things on a structural level.
what would these people consider a mental health disorder / neurodivergence, and why? what thoughts or behaviors cause that to be labeled a mental health disorder?
how are neurodivergent people in this world supported or unsupported?
what are the consequences for having an untreated mental health issue in this world? are there reasons someone might hide their mental health issue, or is there a baseline of trust socially?
if there IS an automatic baseline of trust, what social norms enforce that trust? what are the expectations of conduct for both the mentally ill and those helping them? what happens if that trust is broken by a mental health professional or carer -- what recourse does the mentally ill person have?
are there any Pretty Shitty social norms that would be reflected or encouraged in the mental health system?
these basic questions are Much more interesting than just going on thesaurus.com for the DSM-5. and the answers will make your world feel significantly more grounded.
Today i had the best, or at least part of the top three, class of all.
Some classes our physis profesor gives us a topic to investigate and talk about. Today we finished his topic fast and he told us to propose a topic ourselves. So, i told him about queerbaiting. Yeah⌠i donât really know if i could have done something really wrong or not. I canât express properly how much it meant to me because my profesor (a sixty-something-almost-seventy years old near retirement man) hear all what i was saying very interested he even stopped me at multiple points to ask me to write some of the terms in a paper for him. He really wanted to work with that topic but there was this other guy that wanted to talk about Chernobil and i lost the vote for three votes. Anyway, while i was explaining the topic to the class i mentioned the concepts of queer-coding and queerbaiting and he jumped exited to say âđ and the bury your gays, right?â and, to be honest, i almost died of laugh seeing this grey haired, almost seventy years old tall man exited talking about a queer trope, it was amazing. I end up giving him a list of videos to learn more about queerbaiting that he gladly took and i told him that if he was going to google information he mustn't click in something that said "Klance" i don't think he's ready for Voltron.
