the way they play dean thinking adam is a trap as him being paranoid and pessimistic and then he’s literally right. like. again. s4 is a season about dean being right over and over again and no one listening to him because he doesn’t have physical evidence. dean winchester you are the cassandra haunting this narrative and babygirl i am all ears

It's definitely not purposeful on writers' part, but I like to think of this as Dean starting to see over that 4th wall of God's writing.

Dean is shown to be very pop culture savvy. He reads Vonnegut, he watches old westerns, cheesy horror movies, game of thrones, greys anatomy, etc. He knows the general structure of a story, of the tropes and twists and turns.

He doesn't truly believe his life is being orchestrated by a higher being yet, but he definitely starts to find the pattern of suffering. There is no chance, within the narrative of their life, that Sam and Dean would just find a secret sibling and it not blow up in their face somehow.

Destiel pride - Day 10: Falling from grace

Dean hearing the omens that hit the town in 5.02 and immediately thinking of and finding a random related passage in Revelations is insane. Like I cannot even describe how full of utterly confusing nonsense The Book of Revelation is. Most of it is like reading someone’s fever dream and Dean finds exactly what he’s looking for within seconds of grabbing a Bible off the shelf. Not only does this tell you Dean studied the lore extensively at least some time around season 4 and 5 but also that he has incredible memory recall, which we already saw just prior in 5.01 as well when he thought to connect Chuck’s confusing prophecy about a Castle on a hill of 42 dogs to a random loose leaf piece of scrap paper with an address on it he’d saved from John’s things.

And THEN he unravels the entire case, realizing War is making them see things that aren’t real so they kill each other, based entirely on the omens and Jo calling Ellen a “black-eyed bitch.”

i just think it’s really interesting that dean was essentially introduced to cas (topside) by the sound of tv and radio static. for a man who’s lived in shitty motel rooms and on the road since age 4…those have to be some of the most familiar sounds in the world to him. those sounds have been in the backdrop of his entire life. it’d be like meeting an old friend for the first time. like “oh THERE you are i didn’t even realize i was looking for you” you know? i wonder if there was ever a time when cas was gone for awhile, dead or otherwise, where dean caught the static on tv or the radio and thought of him. if the sound made dean miss him worse, or comforted dean in his absence, or maybe both
