You know what : f*ck it , I’m turning this into a positive New Year’s resolution!

I have my qualms with some of Noah’s past political comments. But , he was right about one thing : a lot of us theorists and fans “are better writers than the Duffers.”

Maybe, I should actually try to write some of my (fantasy/sci/fi) novel ideas down on paper . I’ve had like 3-4 stuck in my brain for years. I haven’t written anything in a very long time . And I’ve only written short stories for fun as a kid or for college assignments . So an actual book may be challenging . I definitely could improve (in terms of grammar) . But, you have to start somewhere. :)

Some of you guys should try writing the stories you want to see in the world - even if at the current moment it’s just for fun. This fanbase has had many cool theories , which frankly shows some of you are creative enough to craft a fulfilling story.

So , I guess, my resolution is to try and write the type of story I want to see in the world. Love ya’ll .

The funny thing about stranger things is that almost every single detail in it is a clear reference/visual parallel to another piece of media. Which is super fun at first, because it feels like a puzzle where you can put the pieces together to find clues about what might happen in future seasons, because good writing only mentions things that will be relevant to the story, right?

And all is going great until you’re a couple seasons in and there’s still no payoff, more and more plot holes are being introduced, and by the final season you’re starting to realize that it’s actually not an elaborate meta movie-nerd puzzle, but just two dudes ripping off a bunch of other people’s ideas and mashing them together because they can’t think of anything themselves.

sigh. we could’ve had so much more. thank god for ao3. 🩷

the sad thing about conformity gate is that it's genuinely set up so well and there's legit compelling pieces of evidence but i think the duffers are too stupid to be this meta...

You know the ironic thing is the same people who say : “ it makes sense for Will to learn the important lesson that first crushes aren’t everything (and it would be better if he ended up happy with an epilogue boyfriend)” would be absolutely irate if El had that ending instead .

Even if it makes WAY MORE SENSE for her narratively. She’s the one who said Mike was her “FIRST boyfriend “.

She’s the one who was making out with Mike the whole summer but in that same season asked Max “how do I know what I like?”

Something she should have learned before dating anyone . And max says in response to not let the men in her life (like Mike) dictate what she likes or chooses . Because “there’s more to life than stupid boys”. Maybe El , a week after getting out of the lab , and learning what a friend was, shouldn't have been kissed and asked out on a date? Right before the 1st kiss she even asked Mike if ‘he’d be her brother’ and asked if they'd go 'as friends' to the snowball. And Mike couldn't even explain to her how friends/siblings/romantic partners are different before he kissed her.

After Mike kissed her and asked her out, they were then seperated. After this she watched soap operas all day, where the main character rushes into a relationship with a character named Mike Roy. Maybe El [romanticized] what her relationship with Mike wheeler could be like in the future because of this.

ps they weren't endgame in the soap. El was maybe never 'in love' with Mike but the idea of him. (Because she had platonic/familial love for him) and subconsciously wanted to be a normal girl. In s4, she felt like the relationship not working and Mike not saying he loved her , was her fault. Because (in s4) she felt like she “didn’t belong anywhere” and had no friends (in Cali) and struggled to assimilate to a normal life .

She lied to Mike in s4 to keep up the facade of being “normal” cause that’s what she wanted (to be normal and accepted). She wanted to fit-in and belong (and have a boyfriend) like a 'normal girl' .Mike may have represented conformity to El-just like El represented it for Mike. Down to the gendered (color coded outfits).

Maybe El once she learns more about the world and herself can find someone who is a better fit for her later on. Maybe instead of the tired over done trope of 'gay best friend learns to get over their crush and move on with an epilogue bf’ .The Duffers do something subversive instead: and not the trope that's been done 100s of times .

Do the duffers not realize how insensitive it is to design a character that’s stated to be gay in the pitch deck, but refuse to address his sexuality and treat it like a plot twist until the very last season, put him through absolute hell for 4 seasons, and then reduce his entire story arc to just him being gay and in love with his best friend, and then proceed to teach said character that he just needs to accept himself, rather than understand that he can have that love returned to him, while he has to sit and watch as everyone around him gets to have that love returned to them at one point or another...

Why is your main gay character the ONLY character with unrequited love??? Do you not realize the message you are subconsciously sending to so many viewers? Why even have Will like Mike at all at that point?

Were zero gay people consulted for season 5? Did the development execs at Netflix read the scripts for this season with their eyes closed? How do you fumble queer representation THIS badly in 2025…

But then again, these are the people who forgot Will’s birthday, don’t even know how old he is, and proudly state that they don’t watch previous seasons before writing the new ones — so maybe decent writing just isn’t something they’re capable of. Maybe that’s why all the dialogue this season sounds like chatgpt wrote it.

But seriously, how can you have Max realize that she never needed Kate Bush, she just needed Lucas, and then have Will’s storyline be purely about how he doesn’t need Mike, just himself. Total bullshit.

I was prepared for a non-byler endgame. I didn’t want it to be true, but I was bracing myself. But goddamn the finale was so ass, I thought there’d at least be a little more closure.

Having a queer character believe he won't find love and proving him right is not good writing.

Having a character grow up in solitary confinement and then ripping her away from the only family she's ever known to live a life of solitude once again is not good writing.

Having a character be in love with his best friend and then just compare it to a high school crush is not good writing.

Having Eleven say that Mike has always been the person who truly understood her after showing us in the previous seasons that he only sees her as a superhero IS NOT GOOD WRITING.

Having two girls be abused by a man with power for the majority of their lives only to leave them dead and alone as a direct consequence of the trauma they suffered IS VILE WRITING

one thing i want to say about conformitygate: i love this theory and i 100% take it to be real, not in a sense that there is actually a secret 9th episode or a meta plot twist, but in a sense that this theory is incredible and i want to headcanon it as being true because otherwise this show is so fucking bad it's not even funny, literally how do you fuck it up so bad that a huge part of fandom believes there's some "true" finale when there isn't one

i want to believe it as a headcanon and not canon specifically because it is fan-made just like every other thing i ever loved about this show turned out to be. this fandom created such a beautiful image, understood these characters and plotlines on such a deep level that duffers could never even dream about, and i do NOT want them to take ANY credit for that. THEY did not make it, WE did.
