sorry to everyone out there who thinks they have the funniest tshirt but i think i can confidently say i just saw the actual funniest tshirt just now. i passed by a beautiful black woman with long multicolor braids blowing majestically in the beach breeze & she was wearing an oversized tshirt that said in gigantic letters "WHITE BOY OF THE YEAR"
I want the record to state I have never been this hard in my entire life
Goddamit i hate this fucking post. I hate it because obviously if âtwelveâ followed the same pattern as the other teen numbers it wouldnât be âtwoteenâ it would be âseconteenâ. Think about it. Itâs not âthreeteenâ itâs âthirteenâ as in âthirdâ. Itâs not âfiveteenâ itâs âfifteenâ as in fifth. So with that in mind, you count âfirst, second, third, fourth, fifth,â and so on, so eleven would be âfirsteenâ and twelve would be âsecondteenâ or âseconteenâ. âFirsteen, seconteen, thirteen, fourteen, fifteenâŠ.â It just drives me absolutely mad everytime i see this post that this obvious pattern was overlooked and i cant hold in my rage anymore.
my favorite thing about the mystery genre is that we all accept the concept of "world famous detective" without hesitation even though that is absolutely not a real category of celebrity
is this gonna get me fired you think
Tumblr being the "piss on the poor" reading comprehension site makes sense when you realize that 79% of adults in the US are functionally illiterate. Same goes for Twitter and TikTok.
that's a real high number, sport. where'd you get it?
hey anon
please tell me you didn't google "US literacy rates" and then make the funniest possible mistake one could make in that situation
PSYCH 2.15 â "Black and Tan: A Crime of Fashion"
i really canât stress enough how much i recommend regularly engaging with older artâ movies, books, whatever. like, âThose who do not learn history are doomed to repeat itâ and all that, but also, thereâs just something really fascinating and kind of beautiful about reading something written by someone who lived so long ago and really connecting with it, recognizing the humanity of people who once seemed like abstract concepts to you
I started reading The Tale of Genji during the pandemic, figuring I might as well improve my mind during lockdown. Itâs considered the oldest novel on record, possibly the first one ever written. Early in the book, thereâs an incident where the main character has a crush on a girl, so he tries to sneak into her familyâs property to get close to her, and along the way he runs into this ancient old grandma who canât half see and who mistakes him for one of her grandkids. So sheâs standing there going on and on about her digestive difficulties and whatever, and he canât speak up because if she hears his voice sheâll know heâs not who she thinks he is, so heâs just having to stand there and nod and hope sheâll go away soon. And Iâm reading all this and thinking that with a couple of adjustments this could be a modern day sitcom, and it made me happy to think that a thousand years ago someone was laughing at the same sort of stuff we laugh at today.
i read dickensâ great expectations in little fifteen minute installments on my breaks at work, sitting there dirty and tired and sweaty in a hot factory, and it made me think about how a hundred and sixty years ago there were probably tired guys in hot factories reading the story the exact same way, bit by bit, at their stupid jobs they couldnât afford to quit and were damn lucky even to have, and they too were glad to read the next chapter of mr dickenâs latest weird little story about weird little people
in reading War and Peace Iâve discovered that âdoing math homework at the dining room table with your angry dadâ has been a common terror since the 1800s
i remember reading tom sawyer, specially the part where he gets chastized erroneusly for dropping the sugar and he just spends minutes sitting in silence sulking and fantasizing about how sad everyone would be if he died and reveling in the self pity of how lonely and misunderstood he is and as a teenager who did exactly that with my 14 years of age i was shocked that an adult in the 1800âs had managed to capture that so well
Remember all those memes about âwhat if we just pretend 2016/2020/etc never happened and never mention it againâ? In 2004 BC, a refugee from Ur looked back on the past year and wrote:Â "May this year not be placed in the reckoning of years! May its number be taken down from its peg in Enlilâs temple, and may its name be unspoken, to far off days, to other days, and to the end of time.â
Thereâs another heartbreaking one from the same period in which a woman mourning her sonâs murder specifically grieves for âmy son who will never bring wedding gifts to his father-in-lawâs house, my son who will never bounce a child on his knees.â
And some time between 2200 and 1900 BCE, a refugee from the destroyed city of Isin (now in South-Central Iraq) wrote this:
âThis is my house, where good food is not eaten (not anymore). This is my house, where good drink is not drunk (not anymore). My house, where good seats are not sat in (not anymore) My house, where good beds are not laid in (not anymore)⊠My house, where no happy husband dwells with me, My house, where no sweet child dwells with me. My house, through whose doors, I, though jts mistress, never grandly pass- Never grandly pass, the doors of this house, In which I dwell no more. I- let me go into my old house, let me go in, Let me lie down, let me lie down! Let me go into my storehouse, oh let me in Let me lie down, let me lie down there, I- Let me lie down to sleep in my own house, It was sweet sleep I had there. Let me lie down in my house, let me lie down there in my bed, It was a good bed. I- Let me sit down on my own chair- It was a good chair.â

I saw this on insta and someone commented asking her how she knew they were in there and she said that she saw the mama duck with only one duckling and thought it was suspicious so she stopped to check and hear them quacking down there... :') <3
the way the momma duck sped up once she saw her babies yayyyy
For when you need a reminder that there really is goodness in the world
And for whenever someone mistakenly tells you that humans can only hurt nature -
We are part of nature. And we are uniquely equipped, in many ways, to help heal the planet we are part of - so long as we keep choosing to help, and to heal, this planet of which we are a part
When people justify using gen AI by talking about how it allows them to do (insert creative hobby) it sends me into a blind rage. The whole point of the creative hobby is to use your brain. Having a machine do it for you defeats the purpose. Thatâs like saying youâre getting into running marathons then just driving the 42km

finding somebody who will laugh at your shitty jokes is joy-inducing but finding a motherfucker who can yes-and all the esoteric bullshit you put out is pure cocaine. this must be the shit all those racuous but good-natured scoundrels down at the tavern are on
You know technology literacy is dying because I saw this meme with 76k likes
F11 the full screen button? Youâre scared of the full screen button? F10?? It opens the menu bar???
Computers are so scary what if I accidentally hit F12 in a steam game and it takes a screenshot. What if I press shift + F12 while in word and accidentally save my document đ
If you had to learn what the F keys on your computer do through me reblogging this post, then I'm glad you did. Computer literacy is not a skill that gets taught anymore, and it is absolutely one that needs to be taught in order to be learned. Don't ever feel bad for not knowing something, but âïž don't ever stop learning learning about your environment, the tools you use, and especially the people around you
Never stop learning+ Never stop sharing what you learned
Iâm slowly beginning to accept the reality that 2007 was not last year but in fact almost four years ago
