Baker Shares Before and After Photos of Her Intricately Patterned Pie Crust Designs
fucked up how cooking and baking from scratch is viewed as a luxury…..like baking a loaf of bread or whatever is seen as something that only people with money/time can do. I’m not sure why capitalism decided to sell us the idea that we can’t make our own damn food bc it’s a special expensive thing that’s exclusive to wealthy retirees but it’s stupid as hell and it makes me angry
bread takes like max 4 ingredients counting water and sure it takes a couple hours but 80% of that is just waiting around while it does the thing and you can do other things while it’s rising/baking plus im not gonna say baking cured my depression bc it didn’t but man is it hard to feel down when you’re eating slices of fresh bread you just made yourself. feels like everything’s gonna be a little more ok than you thought. it’s good.
bread is amazing and it’s also been sold to us as something really hard to make? Every time I tell someone I made a loaf of bread I get reactions like “you made it yourself???” and “do you have a bread machine then?” I haven’t touched a bread machine in probably 10 years. You CAN make your own bread, folks, and it’s actually pretty cheap to do so. I believe the most expensive thing I needed for it was the jar of yeast. It was about $6 at the grocery store and lasted me MONTHS (just keep it in the fridge.) The packets are even cheaper. destroy capitalism. bake your own bread.
You can also make your own yeast by making a sourdough starter, so that cuts cost even more.
But you have to feed the starter daily/weekly and that means it grows quickly, but there are tons of recipes online for what to do with your excess starter. Cookies, pretzels, crackers, pancakes, waffles, you name it!!
Here’s a link to The Home Baking Association’s site. It has recipes and tips.
dear heavens yes BREAD. IT’S EASY. it’s just flour, yeast, salt and water. add butter/oil/honey/sugar/spices if you like it. once you figure out the kneading/rising time according to your flour and water, you can make it in minutes! same for everything else; I don’t know about USA but at least here cooking from scratch is MUCH cheaper than buying, AND you can control what’s exactly in your food and make it exactly to your taste. sure, it takes a bit but so does waiting for take-out, and after a while you learn to fit it in your schedule. don’t let corporations tell you otherwise
“Kill…me…” (via search_and_rescue)
You need to freeze the dough before sticking it into the oven, that stops the butter in them from melting and prevents the cookies from losing their shape <3
.
Is there anything more beautiful?
My Whovian birthday cake. It says feliz cumple (“happy birthday”) in Gallifreyan :3
I really needed chocolate today.
These were the result of the Exactly Two Chocolate Cupcakes recipe by Brett Bara.
I'm loving these single-serving recipes, because I sometimes want to eat a cupcake, but either I don't have the ingredients to make a whole batch, or I don't want to eat six of them (and if I make them, I WILL eat them ;_;).
I made three small cupcakes or one big one. Because I'm a rebel.
They're really nice and moist, and also very chocolaty :DD
Ingredients:
flour: 3 tablespoons
sugar: 2 tablespoons
cocoa powder: 1 1/2 teaspoons
baking soda: a (large) pinch
salt: a pinch
cold water: 2 tablespoons
vegetable oil: 1 tablespoon
vanilla: a few drops if using natural extract, a bit more if using artificial flavoring
chocolate chips or chunks: recipe says 1 tablespoon. I just shoved a bunch in there because chocolate.
How to:
Preheat oven.
Mix the wet ingredients. The foamier they get, the fluffier the cupcakes.
Mix all the dry ingredients together and add them to the wet. Stir ‘till combined. Add chocolate chips, whisk some more.
Put the batter in cupcake liners, or in a larger pan, buttered and covered in flour to make it not stick.
Bake for around 18 minutes. Keep an eye on them! They go from not-done to burnt in seconds.
I really needed chocolate today.
This broccoli pie has been such an unmitigated disaster that I don't even care if it's done. *noms anyway*
so I did.
(btw, any username suggestions welcome XD)
eating cheese with quince jam like the motherfucking Argentinean that I am.
THIS TASTY THING RIGHT HERE:
It's sweet, and used mostly in confectionery, but eating it (or sweet potato jam) with cheese is a traditional Argentinean dessert called "postre vigilante" ("cop's dessert").
