my biggest concern with the franchaela story line, personally, is how they're going to deal with succession of john's title as earl. because they are clearly setting up a Search For The Next Earl (AMERICA'S NEXT TOP MODEL) subplot, and part of that seems like it will be a good way to highlight the actual sexism and restrictions of the era...

part of it would just be SO sad. in the book, obviously Michael Stirling was able to become the next earl. there was no question, there with him being john's paternal cousin and Another Man.

but michaela has no real claim in their society to this land and title. she and john's widowed mothers have no real claim either. will they actually have the guts to deal with the ramifications of this? because most of me wants them to, but a lot of me just wants michaela to have one *ONE!* good thing happen to her and somehow just get to be the damn countess. and keep her family home

Despite being cool.and upbeat (and she is) she also suffers from anxiety and recently started speaking about it in social media. Instagram posta detailing her inability to even go downstairs and how support her fam are etc. She also recently did a bbc documentary about anxiety disorders.

Nadiya is also a perfect example of why diversity in media is important. A government report on community cohesion said she’s done “more for British-Muslim relations than 10 years of government policy”, because her presence on TV has helped to humanize the image of the hijab-wearing Muslim woman in the eyes of the public. She’s not even really a political activist or anything - she’s just a nice, honest, down-to-earth person. Sometimes that’s all it really takes to convince people.

I would like to point out that this moment right here is so cleverly put and genuinely beautiful that it could work for everything people want and need to take from it.

I legitimately cried, because I didn’t only see how a healthy and respectful relationship should work, I also saw a beautiful and respectful way to legitimate and support asexuality, which is something I’ve never seen in a show, especially related to a same sex couple (a lesbian one nonetheless).

As an ace lesbian this means the world to me, because I always have to deal with over-sexualized characters and stories, and though I’m kinda used to it by now, it still bothers me, because I just wish people understood that not everything revolves around sex, and that you can be in a healthy and happy relationship regardless of it involving sex or not, as long as you really love each other.

So, thank you One Day at a Time, you did good.
