And yet you seemed surprised when I didn’t treat you differently to other Greasers. You’re no better than any of them, you know. Good, that means you won’t be tempted.
For a split second, I thought the fact that we are co-workers that you would attempt to be civil from the get go. Silly me. Considering how hard working, loyal, dedicated and determined many of them are, I’m glad that I’m like them. Better to be a Greaser than a fake, cruel Social. The money isn’t worth it.
FOR THE RECORD → BLAICEY
With a muted thud, the large cardboard box hit the ground and a low grumble soon followed. Stacey need not look to understand what this meant. One more box in need to be sorted, one more excuse for Jay to no longer remain on the floor. Before Jay could even utter a word, the blonde rang out with a simple, “The new guy will get it.” Perhaps it was wrong of her to immediately assign Blaine the task of taking on yet another box full of records seeing as he was older. But she had seniority here -- well, it wasn’t said but she had been there for a few months before the Soc even decided to apply -- and she took full advantage of it.
Jay, with no argument, turned and ventured into the back room, leaving the two of them alone and the tension that she’d been ignoring since the brunette had walked through the door increased tenfold. It was the first time that they’d been left to their own devices and the uncertainty of it all had Stacey turning her back completely to the Soc. She didn’t dare even try to speak to him. In fact, the longer they remained alone, the less the blonde wanted to be there.
Salvation quickly came with the ringing of the bell, alerting them to the appearance of a customer. “I got it!” she said quickly, darting past the brunette to head towards the front desk. “Welcome to For the Record can I --” the rest of her words were caught in her throat when she took in the two guys that had sauntered in, dressed sharply and reeking of money. Immediately their eyes caught on her and she could see the wheels turning in their heads. A confirmation came in the form of snickers and whispered words. Just the thought of dealing with them made her stomach churn unhappily.
Turning on her heel, Stacey returned the way she had come only to approach Blaine -- which she had promised never to do -- and yank the box from his hands. She grunted at the sudden weight of it but she didn’t complain. She wouldn’t complain. “It’s for you.” She stated, shifting the weight of the box in her arms. While she was aware that hiding herself away was cowardly, she couldn’t bring herself to face yet more Socials, to be reminded that to them she was nothing. It made her long for the days when Greasers outnumbered Socs, when she was frequently surrounded by her own kind. Now everything had changed and she was the only Southsider left in a room with three of them. Fantastic. Could this day get any worse?

Kitty ran her fingers through her hair as she took another drink from her cocktail, looking at the array of Socials and Greasers dancing and gyrating in front of her. She has already had a few and was unsteady on her feet, but it was nothing she wasn’t in control of. She felt hot as hell in her skin-tight red dress, her heels were making her a welcome four inches taller and her hair was perfectly curled. All of her anxieties about the party were gone, and she was just having fun.
Stacey had promised herself that she wouldn’t get involved, that she would stay back and stick with her own kind. The problem with that came in the form of her friends wandering out and mingling with other people while she held back and remained uncertain. A part of her wished she had gone along with them, stuck with the familiar and those she knew but now it was too late, her friends and family having disappeared from sight.
When a waitress came by with a tray full of drinks, Stacey -- for a brief moment -- contemplated whether she should simply take a drink and relax. It was only the sight of someone already intoxicated and a little unsteady that had her declining. Slowly, she approached the girl and stepped into her line of sight. The girl was familiar but Stacey couldn’t quite figure out from where. So many of the Socials seemed to be blonde and pretty. “Hi.” She said and nearly cringed at how meek she sounded. “I know it’s none of my business but it seems as though you’ve had enough. I mean -- Maybe you need a little fresh air to, ya know, sober up a bit?”
AFTERMATH → BRITTACEY
With her slender arms curled around her midsection, jacket pulled tight around her, Stacey stared at the entrance from which Sam disappeared when he entered the building once more. Tears were in her eyes but she paid them no mind. Not when she knew that both of her brothers were in there, fighting and trying to defend themselves from the vicious attacks. She felt like a useless child; a petty one that had wanted nothing more than to cling to Sam’s sleeve and beg him to stay by her side. So she had put on a brave face and allowed him to go...
Now, with Sam out of sight, the blonde could feel her lip tremble with the growing need to cry and she cursed herself for it. She needed to be strong, to show her brothers that she could be left to her own devices without concern. But that wasn’t the case. She needed them more than she cared to admit. Especially in that moment when the rush of adrenaline was fading, leaving her shaking and scared.
Hastily, Stacey rubbed at her eyes, ridding them of the tears that were starting to fall. With a sniff and a steady breath, she turned tot he tall blonde beside her. A weak smile graced her lips as she tried to find some sort of comfort in the familiar blonde. “Thanks for staying with me, Brittany.” She whispered, her eyes quickly turning away to once more fix upon the concert hall’s entrance. “They’ll be okay, right? They have to stop fighting sometime. I just -- I don’t want anything to happen to them.” And it was true, not only for her brothers but every other person that she cared about that continued to remain stuck inside and immersed in the fighting.

This night was about bounding. It was about mending things, right? Well then, Jeff needed to his part. His eyes scanned the crowd, finally falling on the eyes of a young girl. She looked younger then most but he knew whom she was. Walking over, Jeff bowed slightly to her and offered his hand to her. “Ms. Evans, may I have this dance? I promise I won’t step on your toes.” Giving his most reassuring smile to the young girl.
Awkward. That’s the only way that Stacey could describe this moment. She itched to pull at her clothes, to cover the strip of skin on display at her midsection, to tug down the skirt that revealed -- as she now came to realize -- perhaps too much skin. She never should have come. This was not the type of place that she belonged in. She wasn’t the type for the fanciful display of wealth, one to indulge in drinks of any kind and with her friends lost in the crowd she was left standing on her own.
Green hues swept over the crowd, seeking the familiar mops of blond hair of her brothers, but with the multitude of bleached blonde Socials, it was proving to be quite a feat. “Where are you?” She whispered to herself, shifting her weight from one foot to the other. Just as the thought of wandering the room or reaching for her phone to call someone, her gaze caught on that of a familiar Soc. Stacey tensed, preparing for the worst case scenario.
Brows furrowing in confusion, Stacey’s gaze dropped down to the offered hand and hesitated. Should she or shouldn’t she? It seemed harmless enough. Jeff had never been one of the crueler Northsiders. Besides, what were the chances that he’d try anything in front of a room full of Greasers who would jump in to assist her were something to happen. “Well, since you promised --” She said with a smile, slipping her slender hand into his.
Stepping out onto the dance floor made her nervous. “I don’t --“ ‘normally do this’ she wanted to say but she bit her lip instead. She was a dancer at heart and knew how to dance well, but that was always in private, with only one person -- aside from her brothers, of course -- to have ever bared witness to what she could do.

SAM TO THE RESCUE → STAM
Anger, sharp and bright, encased her, radiating from the group of fighters circling around her. Heart hammering within the cage of her chest, Stacey stood wide-eyed and helpless. The more she tried to distance herself, to step out of the line of fire, the closer the circle tightened around her, leaving her frightened to even move in any direction. How? How could she have managed to allow herself to get in this position, in the middle of swinging fists and harsh words. She was the proverbial damsel in distress. Though it should have sparked a need to be independent and force her way free, it was the fear rushing through her veins that had her seeking for someone to come and rescue her.
"Stevie!” She called when the familiar flash of golden blonde hair appeared in the crowd but her shout remained unnoticed, silenced by the loud curses, angered screams, and glass shattering. Steeling herself for the potential fight to come -- making an escape would be far from easy -- she pushed against one of the smaller guys as hard as she could, attempting to create a space just big enough that she could slip through. “Let me go!” She shouted when he turned and grabbed her, clearly angered by her “violent” display. With a scoff, he pushed her off of him and she gracelessly tumbled to the floor.
Cheeks flushed with humiliation -- neither Bree, Dani or many other Greaser girls would have been quite so easy to take down -- she attempted to rise. It as the flash of something flying over her head that made her hesitate, that made her want to be the coward she clearly was and duck for cover but that was taken from her when the table she was aiming for was turned over, contents spilling to the ground. There was nowhere for her to go so she did the only thing she could think to do. She shifted, moving until her back was pressed against the underside of the overturned table. “Stevie! Sammy!” She screamed at the top of her lungs, praying that someone, anyone would hear her and pull her out of this fiasco.

You were expecting different? It seems we at least have a mutual understanding of the situation, and I would much prefer it that way. It would prevent a lot of frustration for me, I’m sure.
Unfortunately not. It’s hard to expect much from people like you. Of course. Why think of the general atmosphere when you can think about yourself. I’m finding that this whole not talking thing is going to be so much easier than I imagined.

It’s because you get restless that I know you’ll get into trouble. Now that just makes me worry even more.

I’ve seen your kind attack without provication and yet we’re the ones who are ruining this town? Do you realize how much violence could be avoided if Greasers were treated like actual human beings instead of trailer trash, expected to throw punches at anyone who even looks at them the wrong way?
