ACNL dangerous hackers : before shutting down the internet on the 3ds, you could easily meet dangerous hackers on tortimer island who would be able to steal your credit card number if you put it on your eShop + screw up with your 3ds overall

Hello hello hello !

In a previous post (a few months ago) I talked about giving Gracie and Label a new use. To remind you, I said that Label could sell jewelry (necklace, earrings, bracelet...) and Gracie could sell fortune cookies where you could get items from pocket camp and each season would bring a new theme in fortune cookies so you could get new items every few months.

Buuut since ACNH has announced a new update where kapp'n has some sort of new use (for something very similar to the dlc....yay....) I was thinking of a new update : a building where trends are born in the world of fashion ! In here, villagers would be waiting for you to give them a new outfits (with jewelry, duh!) depending on the style they're looking for. There could also be online contests (well, in a perfect world where people don't copy each other...)

But yeah, if you haven't already guessed, it would look like a big crossover between animal crossing and style savvy lol. (Still more original than a hotel if you ask me...)

When I was a kid and played acww, sometimes when I tried to get the money rock these rocks would appear in front of the waterfall, I never really approached them as I thought it was a glitch,, weird huh?

In 2015, I started discovering Undertale through miiverse because people kept drawing Sans in the youtube community. I felt like they were just spamming and decided to hate the game just because it was popular. After a fight with a close friend of mine because of this subject, I decided to give the game a try... By watching videos the fandom made about it. Quickly, I spend my days watching animations memes, memes compilations, fandubs of comics, fansongs and so many other content this fandom had to offer. As there was no french translation of the game and not much french fans yet, I spent a few months learning English just to truly be among the fandom (and all that just through watching translated videos of fan contents and using Google translation sometimes). I was completely obsessed, hyperfixated on this game. It was my first thought in the morning, my last before sleeping, I tried to include it in every aspect of my life, I wanted to know as much as possible about it and I wanted to be the number 1 fan of the game. I experienced some tough stuff a few months before knowing Undertale completely changed my life for the better, I literally wouldn't be doing an English major in university right now if it never existed in the first place. I spent ~ 30 hours drawing all these characters to honour this masterpiece, thanks for everything<3 (I can feel my 12 year-old self crying because I've been waiting for this moment for so long)

Here's a very messy animal crossing iceberg. A year ago or probably more I decided to write my own animal crossing iceberg as I felt the ones we had didn't cover much. But it's been a constant fight between me and my laziness since then so I decided to post it before starting uni again, no matter how messy it is. I also have many notes about the entries and a playlist of videos to give most of the sources.

NIVEAU 1

Mean villagers: back to the N64/gc version, villagers were known to be very mean but they slowly became kinder in every new game, sparking debates in the fandom as they seem to lack personality in NH.

Champ is porter's brother : both of these characters are extremely similar, so ..yeah

pigeon milk: Brewster will talk about "pigeon milk" in some of his conversations, and while pigeons (both male and female) can actually produce milk, it can seem a bit disturbing to some people

time traveling: refers to the common practice among players of modifying the date for many reasons

Raymond's popularity: Raymond is one of the villagers introduced in NH, yet after a player put him in a maid dress and posted it online, people went crazy about him and all wanted him on their island. And since he didn't have a card yet, it was harder to find him so people sometimes paid huge amount of REAL LIFE MONEY just to get him.

Ankha's popularity: Refers to that - unfortunately - adult video of Ankha which rose her popularity among the fandom. (She was already quite popular but still)

Tom nook is a tanuki: refers to the theory that Tom Nook is a tanuki rather than a racoon and at this point I'd say it's canon honestly

king Tut mask: It's an accessory that brings you bad luck. Like in ACNL you would trip when you wore it. But people also used it to go in rivers through a glitch.

animal crossing movie: refers to the animal crossing movie in the early 2000s. You can watch it on youtube

froggy chair: refers to an item that suddenly got a lot of attention from the fans because it fit the aesthetic of early 2020's so people wanted it back to NH.

Blanca: Refers to that one character who would appear in your town in WW/CF after having people over/travelling to other towns. Unfortunately she "disappeared" as internet was shut on these consoles but on ACNL, she has a new role on April the first, so people can still see her.

Feng shui: refers to a practice you can do to gain a lot of points on your house. You have to place items depending on their colors on certain sides of your house, because it is considered "more calming". I think this practice is barely known outside Japan though so I feel like a lot of people only learnt about it through animal crossing

kk slider secret songs: In every game, there are songs kk slider will play if you mistype the name of a song. Usually these songs become "official" in the next game though

Gulliver travels between games: In some of his speeches, Gulliver mentions references to other games, leading players to believe he travels through games

difference between Japan and US version on the gc: there are many differences between animal crossing on GC depending on where you are from. There are also differences for every other animals crossing games but they are much more obvious for the GC one. https://youtu.be/Y7KJHfeWsgs

Gracie is trans: depending on where you play animal crossing, Gracie uses different pronouns. (He/him in Japan for example)

CJ and Flick Dating: and they were roommates... omg they were roommates (very popular ship)

Crossovers : refers to references to other Nintendo games, through characters (in the ACNL update) or fortune cookies, dialogues when you catch fishes/insects, or even the 1-up sound effect when you get bells from the money rock.

Sanrio : probably the biggest crossover between animal crossing and something that's not another Nintendo game. First started in 2016 with the sanrio cards in ACNL but continued in ACPC

NES games : on the GameCube game you can emulate NES games in-game by winning them at the lottery.

NIVEAU 2

Where do balloons come from: there are balloons with gifts in the sky you can shoot but no one knows who throws them, though people think it could be Phineas since he hands you balloons in CF

who was supposed to be the mayor: in NL you receive an anonymous letter in the beginning of the game from someone who clams they were supposed to be the mayor but didn't feel like it. Many people wondered who it could be, like Tortimer's grandson or even Charly ?

missing mystery island: on NH you can visit mystery islands but Nintendo ended up removing the one with hybrid flowers.

Isabelle is an alcoholic: I think in ACPC Isabelle mentions loving "vacation juice" but it kinda looks like alcohol? And I think there's an English lesson somewhere for japanese people where Isabelle straight up mentions alcohol ?? can't remember correctly

Farley and Serena: these are very special characters as they are literal Gods. We can thus assume the concept of religion exist in animal crossing, despite the fact that it is never mentioned.

Brutus the bulldog: Old creepypasta about a scary dog.

hypno k.k: known as the "creepiest animal crossing ost", always used in horror islands such as..

aika village: probably the most popular town you could visit while dreaming in NL. It scared a lot of children but this town has a whole lore going around it.

whale in gamecube: On GameCube if you had a Gameboy advance, you could go on an island and there was a very small chance you could see a huge fish shadow on your way there (on kapp'n boat), assumed to belong to a whale

Out of bounds glitch in ACNL: there were many ways to go out of bounds in ACNL before everything was patched, you could even go under the map. These techniques required either the king tut mask, tweeter, beans or a net

Totaka's song: childish song that used to appear in Nintendo games ?? like in Yoshi's story N64 when you stayed afk in the level selection. But in animal crossing it became an official ost

k.k synth: another well known very creepy ost used in horror towns

mom and dad letters: we receive these letters in each game but it's kinda weird, they never visit and there's no mention of the fact we're the only human. Though there were humans found in the code of the N64 game, as "soldier1" "soldier2" and "oba"(=aunt)

who is zipper; zipper is shown to be wearing a costume, meaning it is someone else but we don't know if it's another character we know like tortimer or a complete stranger.

non animal villagers: some villagers aren't actually animals which is weird (like Farley, or robot villagers)

acnh : people talking in Japanese on the tv : everything is in the title I think?

cute space buns dox: an acnh update brought a space buns hairstyle, fitting black people hair's texture but when a fan put this hairstyle on her white character people bullied her to the point of doxing her

star trees controversy : hackers invented trees with star fragments instead of fruits but jealous people started getting really mad at this and Nintendo ended up banning it anyway

NIVEAU 3

Frillard passed away, : Dr shrunk companion in CF doesn't appear in later games and is hinted as being deceased in one of Dr shrunk dialogue in NL

tom nook controls everything, : some old theory, everything is in the title

Marrying and having a baby : back in NL there were rumors that you could marry a villager and have a baby with it, if you did stuff like sending letters every day, talked to them every day, then stay afk at their house for a few days. The baby was supposed to have like your head and the villager's body

, villagers falling in love, : while we do know villagers can be best friends between themselves, there is no romance

kapp'n is a creep : kapp'n design is based on kappa, a mythological creature who steal children unless you give them cucumbers. Since he is the one who drives you around in animal crossing games, it's disturbing in a way

, wanted posters, : there are wanted posters in the police station with characters that are unrecognizable. One is theorized to be a character in another Nintendo game ? But no one knows for sure for the other

reference to the da Vinci code, : honestly can't remember?

Japan version get more stuff, : in ACNL at least there were lots of stuff that you could only have, even some events, if you were in Japan so many people had to ask hackers (or hack themselves) just to get these items.

bullying villagers, : an activity well known in the fandom is bullying villagers you don't like

64DD: some sort of expansion for the N64 that added a dual storage strategy using both cartridges and disks, an integrated real-time clock (RTC), and Internet connectivity via the Randnet service, 10 new games were made for this expansion but it wasn't a success so Nintendo didn't release it outside of japan. Animal crossing was made to test out the real-time clock.

boondox: in acww you can make donations to a poor town named boondox, which will send you letters offering coloured feathers you can put on your head.

beta map: in acgc I think there's a glitch to access the "beta map" probably used by developers to test features, but since it's beta it has a creepy atmosphere

jingle riverrun and Alexa biscuit: on ACNL a "glitch" was discovered where if you visited a hacked town via the dream suite and they had a photo booth, taking a picture there will teleport you to the shopping street and finding a way to save the game there (either by saving in the dream suite or going to the streetpass garden I think?) would make you copy this town as your own, and you would lose your original town.

forgotten villagers: some villagers who date back from the GC didn't reappear in other later animal crossing games, some made a comeback in the ACNL update but not all of them. Rip meow. Rip Bow. Rip Woolio. Rip Pierre.

animal crossing is going too realistic : recently there have been complaints about the was the art direction of animal crossing has taken, especially in new horizons. Some fans wish we could go back to the kind of designs we had back in the early games, without trying to make everything too realistic or cutesy. A good example of design changes that disappointed some fans are the gyroid, which went from creepy to simply cute.

NIVEAU 4

ACNL 7 PM: ost that scared a lot of people back in the day (me included tbh)

gyroids = haniwa :(do I need to say more?)

haunted paintings and wallpaper in acnh : some of the fake paintings and sculptures in acnh will change at night and there is also a graveyard wallpaper has a ghost who keeps getting closer when it's dark)

Gulliver is a failed murder victim: Gulliver always need our help in every game. Makes you think his crew is actually trying to get rid of him

Isabelle knows when you reset: in achhd Isabelle has a dialogue when she says she has once seen a mayor resetting a whole town, meaning Isabelle know when we reset and never forgets.

we all wear masks: can't remember that one

Resetti weird magazines: on the GameCube when you go to resetti's house you can see some.. adult magazines

Offensive representation: some characters in the game can be seen as an offensive representation (Leigh, Quetzal)

wild world tulip glitch: apparently there's a glitch in acww where you could receive a glitched tulip in the wifi mail and it would appear as an invisible block that you couldn't pick up?

HDLC city folk: hacked dlcs from city folk, can't remember which I was referencing to but for example there is dimensio's mask

animal crossing 2: before wild world, when the ds was announced there was a conference where someone played an animal crossing on it but it was very similar to animal crossing on GC and not wild world. It was also referred to as Animal Crossing 2. Sadly this version of animal crossing is completely lost media

NIVEAU 5

bloody shirt : in the Chinese and Japanese version of animal crossing on GC there is a bloody shirt

Racist baabara : in 2008 Nintendo released 14 review copies of acww for the press but in these copies baabara had the n word as a catchphrase

3:33 AM: idk if it started on ACNL but at 3:33 am you can see an alien talking for a minute straight on the tv. Couldn't find any footage of it for older games though

Animal crossing purgatory: popular theory explaining that the town you arrive in is just purgatory

night clowns: in acnh there are mentions of night clowns in a dialogue when you want a villager to move in so you have to kick out another one

negative presence: there's this overall negative presence that some players felt when they played animal crossing at night, and some of the ost don't help..

4 AM songs: since 4 is an cursed number in Japan, every 4am ost is at least a bit creepy

Gyroid face curse: well known phenomen where if you visit a friend but remove the SD card (or disk?) your character will appear to have a gyroid face when you play the game again and it just won't go away. People speculated on this, thinking that our character actually dies. The creepiest part is the fact that it is proved to not be a glitch and is actually acknowledged by Nintendo as a "weird zombie-looking character"

censor : there are 2 paintings (novel painting and dreadful painting) that were in the n64 game when they were not supposed to because they didn't enter the public domain yet at that tile

animal crossing album covers (animals that do not exist in recent games are censored and replaced with other animals on album covers),

Evil villager :

By restarting your game over and over on GC the starting voice "Nintendo" gets lower and you see a villager cutting trees in the intro

Earth_nuke : on GameCube, when you gave the SD card of your town file to someone you could still play in your town but everything is grey and there is no indicator of the season, the time doesn't change at all and it is refered to as "earth_nuke" in the code
