Five times higher.
Chris Smalls started organizing because Amazon refused to provide him (and his co-workers) with BASIC PPE
All the protections in the workplace? They were bought in blood. I’d argue we have a bunch of new unions because the bosses were so callous!
I mean, nobody should be fired for their medical idiocy, but can people think of their fellow workers for one FUCKING second?
i recently found out the funniest thing about big horses recently which is that for centuries humans have sworn that the feathering on big horse’s legs has been bred in there for a reason, and the reason given is usually something to do with how it helps keep the joints warm and safe when the big horse is doing hauling work in fields.
the thing is: it doesn’t appreciably do that, because the feathers wick up water and mud, which cancels out any insulation advantage they might hypothetically confer, and also it wasn’t even put there on purpose.
the Leg Get More Hair gene is just linked to the Bones Get More Big gene. when you breed any lineage of horses to have bigger bones–not just taller, but chunkier–the leg hair just happens anyway. so every single breed of draft horse has feathered legs, and even carriage horses like friesians get feathers once they hit a certain threshold of lorge.
when you supersize your horse, mother nature throws in a free pair of booties. how cool is that?
Ahhh, what a great example of linked traits! And also shows why evolution gets so complicated
reasons people have used to say i should ‘turn in my man card’ - they found out i dont like beer - they found out i dont watch football - they found out i sit down on the toilet seat when i pee instead of flipping it up - they found out i know how to make cookies, crepes, and can decorate a cake - they found out i dont like hotwings - they found out i do the laundry and dishes half the time it seems like the metric for ‘are you a man’ is ‘do you make the rest of us look bad by comparison’
apparently this is a thing in Japan too, and it gets translated as “Mundane Halloween.” There are so photos online and they’re all so good?????
“Person going to work on a windy day"
“Woman who’s having her bang cut but the hairdresser is nowhere to be found"
"Zookeeper in charge of the pandas"
Here are two more:
"Not pregnant lady when someone yield seat to her on subway"
And my favorite
"Person on thermal infrared camera"
Might share more tomorrow.
Influencers taking selfies at a gym
Starbucks barista working her ass off on Halloween but gotta keep up that smile
Person who sits on wet paint
Person who's still loading
Boyfriend carrying girlfriend's shopping bags
I love these so much
Finally a halloween tradition I can get behind
It looks so fun
This is too awesome!
We're new in this neighborhood and there are tons of kids, so we have to cement our reputation as a Good Trick or Treating House™
The small bowl is for kids with peanut allergies, and I also have cans of soda for kids with other/really severe peanut allergies!
Also at this house:
Nonverbal kids will not be forced to say "trick or treat"
No one is too old for candy
You don't even have to be wearing a costume to get candy
If you ARE wearing a costume, you will be complimented
Happy to report that I have already impressed one mom of a kid who has a bajillion allergies by having candy he could eat. But I also have non caffeinated soda for kids who can't have any of the candy.
I wish we had someone like you in my neighborhood when I was a kid ;-;
The great thing about becoming an adult is that you can BE that person now!
I have also learned the sign language for happy Halloween in case any deaf/hard of hearing kids come by!!!
Also, there is no difference between kids who
Walk from house to house
Are driven from house to house (walking can be hard with a disability)
Kids who are not from this neighborhood
Everyone gets candy
I lost my best friend 3 years ago- not lost as in dead but lost as in we only text each other on our birthdays now. Movies and books don't tell you that a friendship dying is like the sinking of a ship, you try to get higher and higher and hold onto the rails and unanswered texts, the captain tries to steer it to safety and salvage pieces of two broken hearts until you're left with memories of what once was. We were friends for a decade and knew each other's diaries by heart, I still remember her phone number and the way she took her coffee. Seeing her in streets is like breathing in a scent you forgot you knew but it immediately takes you back to a summer in '07.
Movies and books also don't tell you that friendships don't just end after one fight or incident, it's like the rusting of a bridge, the slow decay of flesh and bones and secrets. It took weeks, months- until one day I woke up and I realized I hadn't thought of her in a while. And I wrote a poem that day and I titled it 'The dying of a best friend' and I put all my love for her in a tiny box with my half of the matching pendant of a dolphin we had and stored them in a corner of my heart under the heading Grief. Where else can one hide unspent love?
It's been 3 years since I lost my best friend, lost as in I still carry our secrets in a tiny box but we only text each other on our birthdays.

My dad was dealing with some mixed feelings so I told him "In therapy when something is too complicated to do a simple 'pro and contra list' we sometimes do an excercise where you imagine all these mixed feelings around a table in some kind of conference, letting each tell their bit and you leading the debate."
and my dad didn't really respond and just stared ahead so I kept preparing lunch. Until a few minutes later when he suddenly piped up: "I am having a bad time at the conference"
i know unicorns are usually silver or lavender with those skinny horse legs built for running but id like to see more unicorns with natural colouration built like tanks like these beasts
we need like a scale of unicorn. on one end you have amalthea last unicorn who is the peak of elegant otherworldly unicorns with silver and lavender colours. we need the opposite of that. we need a unicorn who looks like the horse version of a trucker
