Oooooh Okay May I request a scenario with Jonathan Archer where he asks you out?
Pairing: Archer x GN Reader
No warnings
You adjusted your collar and took in a deep breath before pressing the button to open the door before you. It swooshed open and you took a step into the captain's mess.
Archer stood at the window, and he turned to look at you with a smile.
Archer's smile shifted into a small smirk. "When I asked you to join me for dinner, I didn't mean you had to wear your dress uniform."
Your cheeks warmed and you looked away from his gaze. "Oh. I just assumed... I've never been invited to share a meal with a commanding officer before, Sir."
Archer tilted his head. "Jon."
"Tonight, you can call me Jon."
You opened and closed your mouth, then smiled shyly. "Alright... Jon."
Archer waved a hand at the table. "Have a seat."
You nodded and the two of you moved to sit on opposite sides of the table.
"Thank you for inviting me," you said, "Cap--Jon."
Archer smiled and picked up a pitcher with a rich amber liquid inside. "Iced tea?"
"Um, sure, yes, thank you."
"At ease before you sprain something," he teased as he poured you a drink.
You bit your cheek. "Sorry."
"No worries." He poured himself a glass, then held it up.
You took your own and clinked it against his.
"So, Y/N, how're you liking your time on board?"
"Fine, good. Good, yeah, it's been amazing. Exploring space like this--" You smiled genuinely. "It's been a dream of mine since I was a kid."
Archer shared your smile. "I'm glad. T'Pol not giving you any trouble or anything, I hope?"
"No more than she gives everyone else," you said before you could stop yourself. Your eyes widened. "I'm so sorry, that--that was unprofessional--"
To your surprise, though, Archer chuckled and shook his head. "You're not wrong. She is tough on everyone. I guess that's why the Vulcan's put her here."
"I guess so," you replied slowly. "Is it--never mind."
"It's none of my business."
"Consider everything you say tonight off the record," he offered.
You looked at him for a few beats, then nodded. "Is it... annoying to have a Vulcan on board? Knowing that they're the ones who held us back for so long? Especially with your father..."
Archer sighed quietly and took a drink. "I'm getting used to it, but I'll admit I was not happy about it when T'Pol was assigned to us. It felt like a slap in the face after everything they put us through. But I'll admit, she has been useful, and has saved our butts more times than I'll ever admit."
You smiled slightly. "I guess it is useful to have someone on board who's been in space like this before."
"She still drives me up the wall sometimes," he said with a smirk. "But don't tell her I said that."
"Your secret is safe with me."
The door to the galley opened and a crewman entered with a large bowl of salad.
"Thank you, Winston," Archer said.
Winston nodded and stepped out.
As Archer served you both a plate of salad, you shifted.
"Captain," you started, then sighed, "Jon. Can I ask... why you invited me here? Have I done something wrong?"
Archer frowned. "No, not at all. Quite the opposite." He handed you your plate and you mumbled a thank you. "I... I wanted to get to know you better. Spend some time alone."
Your stomach flipped. "Oh. Is that... have you done this with most of the crew?"
"Just the senior officers," he replied carefully.
"Oh." You tilted your head and smiled teasingly. "Does that mean I'm getting a promotion?"
Archer laughed. "'Fraid there's no room for more senior officers. But you could be... promoted socially."
"With me," he clarified, though it didn't really clear things up.
"I'm not sure I understand," you admitted.
Archer looked down at his plate and he looked... almost shy? Which was definitely not an expression one saw from their captain. "I don't want you to feel uncomfortable. And I am definitely not trying to... be inappropriate. I know romance between a captain and crew member can be difficult--"
"Romance?" you asked, cheeks warm.
"Er. Well. Yes. Maybe. If... if that might be something you're interested in pursuing," he said. "And again, I don't want to make you uncomfortable. And I am not saying any of this as your commanding officer. I'm not trying to use my rank for anything. I just--I'd really love to get to know you better. See where things go."
You smiled. "I could be convinced."
"Yeah?" He smiled widely.
"I get to cuddle Porthos whenever I want."
Note: Me? Writing a fic in 2026?? It's more likely than you think. Will this burst of inspiration continue? We shall see <3 I checked my masterlist and the last time I wrote archer x reader was 2020 OOP.
