I wouldn’t even go so far as to say lgbt, because we have the data. It’s mostly cisgender women who are either bi/pan or some version of ace.

But the fun part is that unless you actually know the author via another platform and they’ve actually been honest about their race, gender, and sexuality you don’t know that any fic you happen to read is written by a marginalized writer. There’s no way to know that with the way AO3 works. Unlike books where you can find rec lists in all sorts of genres written by people of color and queer people.

If you think fanfic and fan writers are more progressive than published books, you’re both wrong and lazy. Fic can be more experimental, but that’s not the same thing as progressive.

And about the first part I'm tired of published wattpad fanfiction. I'm tired of stories that are only held together by tropes. I hate the lack of character development. And for romance I hate the lack of chemistry. Stop. Enough.

Shipping is such a multilayered thing too.

You can ship characters for happily ever afters, sure, you can ship them for tragically-then-happily, you can ship two or three or four or more, you can ship endless combinations of personality types and relationship dynamics

but you can also ship characters under very specific circumstances, or for a certain period of their life but not for all of it, or only in a certain universe. You might say “I ship these characters” and what you mean is you think they are fascinating together and could have a story together. That story could be any kind of story. 

Sometimes it means you want them together for the rest of their lives. Sometimes it means something different than that.

I don’t know about you, but for me, “I ship it” means “There is a story in this ship and I am interested in that story.”

leah williams has been outright racist for a very long time but white x-fans have been able to excuse her racism because of her writing gay characters. her “apology” for creating a japanese character who was named a thousand rats and having her turn into a giant rat was absolute bullshit in the first place. people called it ignorance, not maliciousness because they wanted to keep supporting her and even now after hearing about what happened to david in x-factor i’m seeing people defend her or making the situation all about tommy when that should be the lowest of concerns right now. she was violently racist and homophobia towards a black queer character and she will be getting to write another highly anticipated book this fall (the trial of magneto). i encourage everyone AFTER TOMORROW’S ISSUE has been released to 1. not buy it 2. be vocal about how fucked up it was on twitter and other platforms where people could see 3. email [email protected] to tell them that this issue was racist and homophobic and that she should not be writing for marvel anymore

this could do nothing considering it’s marvel lol but writers and creators have said that emailing does make a difference

1. you can start emailing the x office at [email protected]. keep the emails civil but clearly outline the problems with the issue and call for leah’s removal from any and all future marvel projects. show that you’re upset but also make it actionable. there’s a good template to follow here and here

2. don’t buy it—it’s already going to a second printing which is gross

3. don’t make edits of it — not of david in that outfit, not wanda, etc

DO YOU REALIZE THIS#ross gives him the 36 hour window to catch steve & co. 24 hours later he has flown FROM GERMANY TO THE U.S. AND BACK to bring peter in#the airport fight happens (no need to talk about physical exhaustion here) then he tends to a paralyzed rhodey; nat walks out#followed by the whole raft Moment which must have severely fucked him up emotionally sixteen times over#and then he IMMEDIATELY flies off the motherfucking SIBERIA#to watch his parents being murdered on tape by the man standing right by him#when the other guy standing by him chose to cover it all up#like i would have fucking gone ballistic right around the pre-fight convo at the airport when steve’s like#‘you’ve been busy’ like YES I HAVE BEEN BUSY THANK YOU FOR NOTICING [blasts somebody’s face off] like its way too much stress for me (via @knightinironarmor)
