Give me peace of mind at last - show me all you are
Wally had a friend growing up that would always complain about his big brother. "He's so bossy!! He's no fun! You're lucky you're an only child, you never get told what to do..."
As a kid, Wally agreed; who'd want some stuck up jerk looking over your shoulder all the time?
When he's older, when Wally's grieving a thought to be dead superman, or bickering with John, or asking Bruce for advice, or having fun showing J'onn human stuff, he realizes that having an older brother is pretty great actually.
Bruce dies in Clark' arms in a battle, his body growing cold from bleeding out, wrapped in the foreign material of the kryptonian's cape, clinging to it for warmth. After, when Bruce's casket is being lowered, it's lined with the cape, Clark having insisted that his friend be buried with it—unable to bear the thought of taking that last comfort away from Bruce.
Superman never replaces his cape, living on with the knowledge that a part of himself, of his people, is always there, embracing his dearest friend.

モンスター Ep. 38: The Demon in My Eyes
Was thinking about how in The Batman (2004) Bruce is actually the one to bring the justice league together in a very "power of friendship" way, and then considered the idea of a rather campy, somewhat innocently naive bruce wayne bringing together a bunch of already jaded/jerkish JL heroes.
Just the concept of Gotham being the city that's more lighthearted, saturday morning cartoon compared to the other cities being more somewhat gritty and grounded is interesting to me. I don't even mean like Synder gritty just like the 2012 film universe where even Clark is low-key a prick at times.
The contrast is pretty funny to consider especially if u keep the general aesthetics the same, so Gotham, the cursed city--and its fearsome bat and his rogue's gallery of lunatics--are actually quite friendly and whimsical compared to the rest of the villains and heroes.
Insert Bruce (who mind you is not some ignorant child, but rather a tender-hearted, compassionate man who Can and Will still kick ass if necessary) warming them all up to one another and showing them that they don't have to be miserable and alone.
Side note: Alfred is absolutely not retaining his usual encouragements of Bruce to make friends. He's doesn't trust the league At All, and is probably the one to prep all the (probably now lethal) contingencies that Bruce usually does.
I'll clean this up later maybe, but I really like the idea of a post-evil justice league bruce and kara being sort of awkward trauma bonded family afterwards.
missing my protagonists
If Batman is Lady Gotham's Knight, then Brucie Wayne is her Jester
What if eight year old Bruce, struggling with grief and survivor's guilt and suicidal thoughts, vows to himself that the only way he should ever be allowed to kill himself is with a gun.
what if...the absolute batman is the actual peak physique bruce could reach but he doesn't in the main batman timeline because he has undiagnosed eating disorder. that's why he always goes for like...protien shakes and vitamin tablets and whatever concoctions alfred prepares that he doesn't immediate feels like throwing up? this didn't happen in absolute batman timeline because despite being piss poor compared to the billionaire wayne, bruce still got a solid support system in his mom and his childhood friends. yes, alfred was there in the main timeline but he couldn't be a father to bruce when it was most needed. alfred lives with that guilt and tries his best to support and guide an adult bruce as much as possible.
i want bruce to be hurt so badly that, even when his family realizes they fucked up and come back, there’s something genuinely broken about him. there’s a disconnect between him and his feelings; not him attempting repression but him actually having cut the bridge. that last fight, that last door slamming shut, that last “off” period between him and his family, it sent him into a spiral of depression until he landed firmly in apathy.
oh, he still cares. he still loves gotham, fights for her, bleeds for her, feels for her. but when it’s a question of anyone loving him? ha! that almost made him twitch his lips. he’s lost in his head with self hatred, unable to believe he could be loved.
he feels mechanic in his movements, but even roombas are loved. then again, they’re also useful. he just- well. he just rots in his own body.
he doesn’t understand their attempts at bonding; they don’t need to put all this effort into pretending. he knows already, that their affection and worry is fake. they don’t need to try talking to him, especially not when he’s so awful at it. they don’t need to wrap themselves around him when he knows he’s disgusting to touch.
they’re being weird, and bruce is patiently waiting them out until the other shoe drops. if they feel less guilty by pretending to like him, then that’s fine by him. they’ll give up soon enough, like they always do. at least he’s not choking on his own hope that maybe this time it will last. at least this time, he knows he’s just temporary.
at least this time, he’s too used to it for it to hurt.
Question: Is Batman Triggered by Guns?
Answer: Sometimes.
From my vague memory of the hundreds of Batman comics I've read, Bruce (depending on the writer; some never write him as being triggered while others do) is consistently triggered by the context, not necessarily just the gun.
(He spends the rest of the comic spiraling wheeee)
Certain writers will have him responding differently, but it seems that he is triggered pretty consistently involving any combination of at least two factors mirroring the event: gun + person he knows + child + alleyway + civilian mode.
Interestingly enough, he doesn't really care about being shot himself. He's afraid of not saving someone, whether he intimately cares about them or not.
Comics referenced are:
Brian Azzarello's Broken City, Legends of the Dark Knight #79, Batman Adventures Vol. 4, Detective Comics #439, Batman #380, and Batman: Kings of Fear.
To me (as an autistic individual), I see the different shades of batman and brucie wayne as being, y'know, that thing autistic people do where they subconsciously adjust how they act around certain people, jobs, and activities. Job me, college me, and home me are all extremely different on a surface personality level, and I think that's sort of what Bruce has going on. Masking: through the literal mask of Batman or through the lens of high society-floozy Brucie. (Or any number of specifications)
That's the interpretation that I believe holds the most weight—that Bruce is nearly constantly cycling through these masks in order further his mission (to save others from the pain he feels). Maybe to the point that he feels like his "true self" (the unmasked self) died alongside his parents.
breaking news that surprises absolutely no one: CEO of Horrible Coping Mechanisms started early
I don't care if it's been a long-established canon fact that Clark and Bruce look extremely alike, That's Bad Character Design.
