Do you see the vision?
“He told me the moon was an egg, Khaleesi," the Lysene girl said. "Once there were two moons in the sky …. One day the other moon will kiss the sun too, and then it will crack and the dragons will return.” - daenerys iii, agot
“If she had been some ordinary woman, she would gladly have spent her whole life touching Daario, tracing his scars and making him tell her how he’d come by every one.” - daenerys vii, adwd
“Faint scars still marked Jon's cheek, where an eagle had once tried to rip his eye out.” - samwell i, affc
"The grave casts long shadows, Iron Lord," Mirri said. "Long and dark, and in the end no light can hold them back." - daenerys ix, agot
"Mother, mother!" They were reaching for her, touching her, tugging at her cloak, the hem of her skirt, her foot, her leg, her breast. They wanted her, needed her, the fire, the life, and Dany gasped and opened her arms to give herself to them” - daenerys iv, acok
“His long face floated before her, limned in tongues of red and orange, appearing and disappearing again, a shadow half-seen behind a fluttering curtain. Now he was a man, now a wolf, now a man again. But the skulls were here as well, the skulls were all around him.” - melisandre i, adwd
GRRM is in fact really good at making up top tier characters i will use the starklings to illustrate the point okay you got: 1) high school freshman King Arthur stars in a shakespearean tragedy, as told by his mom; 2) local moody teenaged Starbucks night shift manager must do his very best to stop the zombie apocalypse through the power of friendship; 3) a middle schooler who keeps her sparkly butterfly gel pens in perfect rainbow order at all times is being held hostage by her evil middle school boyfriend and his evil blonde mafia family; 4) a scrappy but poorly-supervised middle-grade book protagonist bops about a war-zone looking for her family but instead! learns about Death; 5) paraplegic fourth grader Frodo Baggins receives mystical visions and must go on a quest to see a hundred-year-old tree guy; and 6) kindergartener that Bites

i don't care what anyone says i love it when a historical novel slides in a historical figure all casual. every single time i am pointing yelling screaming cheering like YOU!!!!! I KNOW YOU!!!!!! FROM HISTORY
book: they ordered their drinks at ye olde tavern and there was a guy there. and he said sup i'm william but you can call me will...... shakespeare......
me: omg it's william. of shakespeare fame
book: he was scribbling with his quill pen mumbling to himself "hmm what if there was a play.... but it was WITHIN the play..."
me: omg hamlet.........................
pythagoras making a cameo in a novel about vampires in ancient greece or whatever: oh didn't see you there...... i was busy thinking about my theorem #mytheorem

dany and daenerys. jon and lord snow. robb and the young wolf. arya and mercy. sansa and alayne. theon and reek. catelyn and stoneheart. jaime and the kingslayer. melony and melisandre. young griff and aegon. jeyne and lady arya. dunk and ser duncan. egg and aegon. kill the boy and let the man be born. he was robb the lord now, or trying to be. jon would never. lord snow did. jaime, he thought, my name is jaime. call her by her name. call her brienne. in another life he had been someone else, but here and now, his name was reek. he remembered. “no one,” she would answer, she who had been arya of house stark, arya underfoot, arya horseface. is this the face of a conqueror? so far as she could tell, she still looked like a little girl. jon? jon? do we know anyone named jon, grenn? she’d had so many names. had she only dreamed arya stark? jeyne, her name is jeyne, it rhymes with pain. he had taken off father’s face, bran thought, and donned the face of lord stark of winterfell. shout out your name before them all, tell them that you are not arya stark, let all the north hear how you were made to play this part. in there she was someone . . . but that was not the answer that he wanted. are all of them so blind? I must be alayne all the time, inside and out. I am not a wolf, no matter what they call me. I have a name. you have to know your name.

Having finally watched Disney's 2015 remake of Cinderella, I'd like to discuss one difference between the animated version and the remake that gets a lot of notice in fan reviews. Namely, the difference in what Cinderella does while locked in her attic room as the stepsisters try on the slipper downstairs.
The animated Cinderella cries, shouts and begs for her stepmother to let her out, is overjoyed when the mice appear with the key, pleads and demands that Lucifer the cat let Gus go when he stops him from slipping the key to her, and then calls for the mice to get Bruno the dog to chase Lucifer away. But in the remake, she sadly resigns herself to never seeing her Prince again, comforts herself by resolving to always treasure the memory of him the way she does the memories of her parents, and wistfully dances through the attic as she remembers the ball while singing her mother's old lullaby, "Lavender's Blue." It's only thanks to the mice opening a window that her singing reveals her presence to the people below.
Many fans of the animated classic can't stand this change. They complain about how passive the new Cinderella becomes in this scene, where the original was desperate to escape and played an active role in helping the mice to free her. But I have read comments from one fan of the remake who praised the 2015 Ella for being "stronger" than her animated counterpart. This fan argued that while the original Cinderella is pathetic as she sobs and begs to be let out, Lily James' Ella is empowered by finding inner peace and choosing to treasure her memories yet move on with her life.
But personally, I don't think either of those arguments ring true. The two Cinderellas' circumstances at this point aren't really comparable. The remake makes a massive change to the scene's context.
The animated Cinderella is locked in the attic just as the Grand Duke is about to arrive with the slipper. She knows he's coming; when he arrives, she knows he's down there. And she has the other slipper as unquestionable proof of her identity. Her future happiness is within her grasp. But then in one fell swoop, Lady Tremaine takes it away... but then it reappears when the mice arrive with the key, only to be threatened again when Lucifer comes after the mice. All of this happens within just a few minutes. Is it any wonder that her emotions are running high throughout the sequence, that she's frantic to escape, and that wistfully resigning herself to her fate is out of the question? Isn't it only natural that she shouts and begs and sobs at the door, and calls for the mice to get Bruno to chase Lucifer away? She knows that these few moments will decide whether her dreams come true or whether she loses them forever. Everything is immediate and raw.
Lily James's Ella has been locked in the attic for days when the entourage from the palace arrives. She was locked up before the slipper-fitting search even started, and by the time they reach her house, they've searched all over the kingdom: her house is the very last one. Who knows how long she's been up there? When Lady Tremaine first locks her in, she runs desperately to the door and shouts after her. For all we know, she sobbed and begged to be let out just as much as her animated counterpart at first. But after days of imprisonment, it makes sense that she should give up trying to escape and resign herself to never seeing Kit again. Especially because, unlike in the animated version, Lady Tremaine broke the other slipper, so she has no way to prove her identity. Besides, she doesn't know that the slipper she lost is being taken from house to house and tried on every girl in the kingdom. Again, she was locked up before the search started. When the royal entourage arrives, she doesn't know they're there. If she did know, would she do nothing but dance and sing to herself? I doubt it!
Of course it's fine to prefer one version of the scene to the other, but I personally think any complaints about the version you don't like should be aimed at the writers, not at the character of Cinderella. This isn't a case of two versions of the character behaving differently in the same situation. The two situations are different.
Another difference between the two Disney Cinderellas to point out:
When the animated Cinderella is locked in the attic just as the Grand Duke arrives with the slipper, it's the very day after the ball. It was just hours earlier that she was dancing with the Prince. This is all the more reason why she's so passionate and desperate.
In the 2015 version, while it's not explicitly stated, it's probably been over a year since the ball took place. The King dies, and we're told that Kit doesn't start searching for Ella until after he's finished mourning for his father. Presumably, this means the entire formal mourning period is over, because Kit isn't wearing black or even subdued colors when he starts the search, but full bright colors again. The typical 19th century mourning period of both a son for his father and a royal court for a king was one year. So Ella has already gone a long time without seeing Kit and had to learn to cope with his absence. While she still loves him as much as ever, this obviously puts her in a different state of mind than if she had just been waltzing in his arms the night before.

What Sansa’s chapters in King’s Landing feel like :(
"Glowing like sunset, a red sword was raised in the hand of a blue-eyed king who cast no shadow. A cloth dragon swayed on poles amidst a cheering crowd. From a smoking tower, a great stone beast took wing, breathing shadow fire ... mother of dragons, slayer of lies..." - ACOK - Daenerys IV
It took me ages but I've finished it ...The second set of three visions that Dany has in the warlock's chamber in HOTU ...The Slayer of Lies set ...
BRIENNE IS SANSA'S KNIGHT! (and if one among them was a man this ship would have everyone in a chokehold)
1. Brienne and Sansa being GRRM's characters that use true knights in a not ironic way :
There are gods, she told herself, and there are true knights too. All the stories can't be lies. (A Clash of Kings - Sansa IV)
Old or young, a true knight is sworn to protect those who are weaker than himself, or die in the attempt. (A Feast for Crows - Brienne VI)
2. They are inspired by songs, they romanticize them and see them as a beacon of hope in darkness :
Sansa would know it, I bet. Her sister had known all the songs, and she could even play a little, and sing so sweetly. (A Storm of Swords - Arya IV)
"There was always a singer at Evenfall Hall when I was a girl," Brienne said quietly. "I learned all the songs by heart." "Sansa did the same, though few singers ever cared to make the long journey north to Winterfell." (A Clash of Kings - Catelyn VI)
3. In they are inspired by the characters in those songs, albeit in an opposite and complementary way :
Help me, she prayed, send me a friend, a true knight to champion me. (A Clash of Kings - Sansa II)
I will find her, my lady, Brienne swore to Lady Catelyn's restless shade. I will never stop looking. I will give up my life if need be, give up my honor, give up all my dreams, but I will find her. (A Feast for Crows - Brienne II)
Be brave, she told herself. Be brave, like a lady in a song. (A Storm of Swords - Sansa V)
Should we die in battle, they will surely sing of us, and it's always summer in the songs. In the songs all knights are gallant, all maids are beautiful, and the sun is always shining. (A Clash of Kings - Catelyn II)
She called for the heroes from the songs, for Florian and Ser Ryam Redwyne and Prince Aemon the Dragonknight, but no one heard. (A Clash of Kings - Sansa IV)
I am coming for you, Lady Sansa, she thought as she rode into the darkness. Be not afraid. I shall not rest until I've found you. (A Feast for Crows - Brienne I)
4. They both remind ideals of nobilities and idealistic nature in Lady Catelyn :
"Sansa was a lady at three, always so courteous and eager to please. She loved nothing so well as tales of knightly valor." (A Clash of Kings - Catelyn VII)
Catelyn smiled sadly. "There is a sweet innocence about you, child. (A Clash of Kings - Catelyn VII)
5. They both see in Catelyn someone that they aspire to be :
as strong as her mother, the Lady Catelyn. (A Game of Thrones - Sansa IV)
Catelyn thought. "Brienne, I have taken many wellborn ladies into my service over the years, but never one like you. I am no battle commander." "No, but you have courage. Not battle courage perhaps but..I dont know...a kind of woman's courage." (A Clash of Kings - Catelyn V)
6. They both want deep down to reconnect with their families :
If I give him sons, he may come to love me. She would name them Eddard and Brandon and Rickon, and raise them all to be as valiant as Ser Loras. And to hate Lannisters, too. In Sansa's dreams, her children looked just like the brothers she had lost. Sometimes there was even a girl who looked like Arya. (A Storm of Swords - Sansa II)
"A daughter." Brienne's eyes filled with tears. "He deserves that. A daughter who could sing to him and grace his hall and bear him grandsons." (A Feast for Crows - Brienne VI)
Sansa wishing in a knight that will maybe never come without knowing that she is inspiring knight value in Jaime, Sandor and Brienne is so bittersweet.
There is no doubt that Sansa's storyline has a knight, that the subversion of it is that this knight is no recognize as one, he is not a man and is not beautiful and very probaby will find her when she will not need them anymore, learning to stand by herself, but has the true spirit that all the "recognized" knights lacked, and this is Brienne.
I would even like to remind that George Raymond Richard Martin himself compared the two.
George Raymond Richard Martin comparing Sansa to a romantic and dreamy soul exactly as Brienne is :
I have no hate in my heart when i say this but it bothers me so much when the idea of Arya and Daenerys and Brienne being happily in love find so many critics..from their - so called - fans on tiktok.
"Daenerys doesnt need a man to be the greatest" nor Aragorn son of Arathorn needed Arwen to make his character complete and compaling enough to become one of the greatest fantasy heros of all times..yet he has her on his side, sharing with her a love so deep and pure that she refuse to be immortal for him. Why Daenerys cant have someone that loves her this much and still be cool?
"Arya reject gender roles and thinks women are important too and she is wild and fierce, and she chose her destiny for herself and has no need of a man" and so does Éowyn the shieldmaiden of Rohan that killed the most ferocious, insidious and cruel creature her world has ever seen..yet she is not less cool just because she felt in love with Faramir of Gondor and lived happily with him.
"Brienne doesn't need a man because she's managed to get a place in society that is usually only for men, she's not a useless damsel in distress" first of all, Brienne would immediantly dislike you for think that the maids in her so loved songs are useless..secondly Galadriel "the mightiest and fairest of all the Elves that remained in Middle-Earth" too attains absolute power, far greater than Brienne's, and I say this as Brienne's lover, so much so that if she would touch the ring they wouldn't be able to stop her ever..yet she is happily married with Celeborn. Is she less cool? I do NOT think so.
The idea that a female character, to be cool, NEED to be as much detached from anything it was once perceived as typical feminine as possible is already so disgusting that i feel like i am talking with alt right pro Russia father - that also pretend to be a feminist when spent the whole time at the family christmas gathering decomposing the chemical of my brain while talking about how much women need men - but to think that a woman cant be a cool badass heroine and still find love is beyond me. Who said that? Why men can have both but women dont?
- please Lord of the Rings fan do not come for my neck, i only watched the movies and a long time ago..i promise that i will read the books.
