Frank Dicksee’s “La Belle Dame Sans Merci” brings John Keats’s famous poem to life. A mysterious woman leans down from her horse while the knight reaches up toward her already caught by the spell he cannot escape.

Exhibited at the Royal Academy in 1902 the painting is one of the last great Romantic visions of the Victorian era. Rich color graceful figures and quiet tension make it unforgettable.
