Matthew had been having a rough few weeks. Some thieves had broken into his home while he was away and had stolen a decent amount of his woodworking equipment, and the only piece the police had been able to recover was a table saw that was going to need a lot of repairs before it was usable again. Then his dog, who was sweet, but not the smartest animal he’d ever owned, had caught a raccoon and let the very angry creature loose in his house when she couldn’t figure out what to do with it, Matthew had gotten it out eventually, but got himself bitten and had a waste an afternoon in the emergency room to make sure he didn’t get rabies, and when he woke up the next morning with a cold, his seemingly endless patience was used up.
Luckily, that had been a few days ago and he was starting to feel more like himself again. He’d spent several days home alone, working on his saw and tending to his animals, and since the worst of his cold seemed to be over, he decided to bike to the hardware store and run some errands. He finished up quickly, but he was tired and decided to stop by the diner and get some soup to go so he could eat when he got home and maybe grab a nap before going back to work for a while. It had been a good plan, but when he stepped outside to start his journey back home, he was overcome by the overwhelming urge to sneeze and it exploded out of him so violently he lost his grip on his bag and his soup splashed all over the ground. He didn’t swear, but if there was ever time where he was tempted, this was it.
He stared at the mess on the ground for a few seconds before he realized he wasn’t alone and he turned away to sneeze once more before he spoke, “I’m sorry, I didn’t get any on you, did I? Involving someone else in this disaster does seem to be the way this nightmare of a week has been going…”
she slept, at most, an hour last night. now that her band’s been picking up friction around the state, nadiah and her bandmate’s have been taking up any gig they could manage. top that off with the fact that she was still an acting student, and still loved binge watching netflix late at night, and you’re left with a sluggish nadiah.
she just completed a tiring day at school, and decided that before she left to crash at home, she’d get something to eat at the diner near her campus. she slowly left her car, and shuffled to the entrance with her eyes on her feet. she could barely keep them open, but they certainly grew wide with energy when a bag dropped in front of her and she hat to jerk back from getting any of the contents splashed onto her.
the young girl looked up in surprise, as the man in front of her apologized. she gave him a tired, but genuine smile and said, her voice groggy with fatigue “none of it got on me, thanks for asking. if you’re week’s been as bad as you say it, i wouldn’t mind buying you a fresh batch of soup.” she pointed down at the puddle that had since began to form. “that one looked pretty good, last thing you need is to leave this place without your chowder.”
