Cores
I tag stuff that reminds me of my OCs and other original story stuff with “x core”. Various definitions of x are below.
Characters
Anton de l’Outrenoir, Exilarch - Reincarnated wizard-king of a dead world that fell into the void beyond Creation, now the Power of Blasphemy; as a human, he is French-Algerian, and before his enNoblement he was a semi-prominent mixed media artist. He wants to find his lost world and return it to Creation’s bounds. He has a stolen pale steed named Fidelity. In addition to his Noble abilities, he has dabbled in the forbidden art of High Summoning, calling creatures out of the Not to answer his queries. In a forbidden romance with Indel. Created for Jenna Moran’s “Nobilis”.
Christine “Anthem” Anthemon - Guardian of the living and the dead, of the world and its mysteries. The Power of the Veil, the boundary between life and death, as well as between knowledge and secrecy. Patroness of a handful of somewhat-bumbling exorcists, who act as her Anchors. Big Leonard Cohen fan.
Clariker - A reformed void god bearing a curse that turns him into a living sword that robs the world of meaning. He is trying to stop being a world-killing edgelord after breaking up with an abusive Warmain, and is currently a member of the Chancery, a support group for former world-killers. Unironic cybersigilism enjoyer, his arms are covered in sleeves of abstract tattoos evoking swords and knives. An Excrucian Strategist dying of The Edge I created for Dr. Jenna Moran’s “Glitch”.
Felvius - Another Strategist, dying of Hunger. Nocturnal mother fucker who uses vampires magic and the Night Craft to terrorize people. Not reformed, but not very good at world-killing. Pathetic.
Gamal Gadigan - Another Strategist, dying of Culture Heroes. Gamal’s bones are the foundations of worlds and nations, and are thus much sought-after by mythical founders and tricksy innovator-types. A talented smith in his own right.
Gathmeris - Strategist, dying of Revelation. When things are going well for poor Gathmeris, some new threat whips off its cloak and makes to confront her, be it in the form of man, monster, or circumstance. She has come to see her condition as a great coincidence, rather than a personal curse, and so she has joined the Chancery. Gathmeris uses her “condition” as a tool of medicine, extending her revelatory bane to illnesses and injuries in the patients she encounters as a diagnostician. She is in a professional partnership with the sapient place of healing and Power of Second Chances known as Sebastian’s Ward.
Indel - Strategist, dying of the Stampede. He saw an endless herd trampling the earth, bodies merging into one another, and when the powers that be realized what he had witnessed he was crushed. Confronts the horrors of the Glitch with cowboy spirit and a sense of adventure. Rejected the standard pale steed in favor of bringing along his own regular ass horse. In a forbidden romance with Anton, he has not been a member of the Excrucian host in some time. He may yet reform and join the Chancery.
Marcionne, la Vidame de las Blasphemies et Heresies - Magister of the Dark, holding the estates of Blasphemy and Heresy and having created the Powers Anton and Quarie to further the interests of the offensive and the unorthodox on Earth and beyond. She takes great joy in hunting; specifically, she revels in the quarry that is made available to her by her privilege as a Magister of the Dark to travel the Lands Beyond Creation. She has taught her Nobles how to do the same, having granted them Gifts to permit them their Noble powers beyond the Weirding Wall.
Phoebe Pandrosion - The latest Seeking-Keeper of Dunelight, a mysterious island at the northern edge of the Argent Isles in the world of Deklein. She is a lighthouse keeper with no beacon to tend to.
Quarie de l’Etaires - The Power of Heresy, Chatelaine of the Chateau de l’Etaires. She is much older than her brother caelestis Anton, at least in terms of their time spent as humans. In addition to her regular Noble abilities, she has the Glorious Gift, which she uses to inspire trust in mortals. With this skill she has been a prolific heresiarch, strengthening her estate throughout history by quietly starting schisms and persecutions. Her pale steed is named Equity. For the most part, she sticks to her chateau and uses her mortal anchors to spread conspiracy theories and ideological heterodoxies, occasionally leaving to haunt the Byzantine Society or attend her Imperator’s hunting trips.
Sebastian’s Ward - Living locus, place of healing, and Power of Second Chances. Sebastian’s Ward was once a human-born Noble, but was slain by an Excrucian; to save themself, they used their power to create for themself a Second Chance, redefining themself as a powerful nexus of healing energies. In this form, it has become a cornerstone of the Green Snake Order, dedicated to reforming fallen Powers. More recently, it has turned its attention to reforming Excrucians and “treating” the Glitch, an act of hubris so grand it might unravel the Ward entirely. It is aided by the reformed Strategist Gathmeris and a host of mortal Anchors, who wear white coats embroidered with green serpents and arrows.
Vadavult - You guessed it: an Excrucian Strategist, dying of Exposure. It wraps itself in bandages to stop the sunlight and fresh air from turning it into dust. Uses a combination of grappling with its bandages and a collection of magical masks. A dedicated world-killer. Supervillain vibes.
Hues
From my dark fantasy near-apocalyptic D&D setting, Deklein. Each color represents a kind of divine influence on the world. The Moon and its deities reign in the lands Luniregnal Hemisphere of the world and in the upper air all around.
Silver - Protection, prevention, subversion. The color of the Moon.
Red - Destruction, dissolution, emptiness. The color of the Star inside the Moon.
Black - Connection, life, darkness. The color of the Earth whose bones built the Moon.
Gold - Consciousness, inspiration, animation. The color of the Sun eclipsed by the Moon, and made to slumber.
Copper - Language, emergence, synthesis. Apocryphal, outside of the Moon’s influence.
Other
I tag anything regarding the vacuous, recursive nature of the universe “Om Shunyata”. I know this is a misunderstanding of the concept, but I started using it and it stuck.
“This is (x)” is how I tag things that remind me of the nine wisdoms/magical arts from Book of Hours.
