REQUEST/ASKBOX RULES~
response wait time truly depends on my mood, please donโt take offence if your ask is taking longer than some others!! i usually take a few days to process a fic request and another few to write it all out, so respond to non-request asks in the meantime! i try my best to respond to everything!!!
YES:
- canon x canon
- canon x reader
> in terms of the gender of reader in any x reader content i write, i keep it ambiguous as much as possible, but i default to afab because iโm cisfem! that being said, iโm open to writing reader of other gender presentations upon request, i just ask that if i get anything inaccurate to please let me know kindly so i can improve next time <3
i'm so sorry for my hiatus ;-;
the writing juices dried up for a hot minute and i was in a strange place mentally which didn't let me be comfortable enough to sit with my thoughts for long enough to actually write anything down, i swear i'm not ghosting your guys' requests!!
for now, i'll get back to you with some ashveil headcanons to get the ball rolling and then write out those asks!
honestly, thank you for sending the requests. i've mentally mapped out pretty much everything i want to write for each of them, it's really just a matter of actually writing them out ๐ฅน
so it turns out the people yearn for characters x!tmasc reader :00
again, thank you so much for the asks and ideas, i really appreciate them! it just took me by surprise that this was a common theme in two of the asks HAHA
i'm not personally experienced/knowledgeable about some of the things that comes with being transmasc since i myself am cisfem, but i will do my research and promise to give it my best shot!! แ(โโธโผโถ)แ
๐พ and ๐ฆ anons i hope i can do your ideas justice!!
that's all for now! thank yewww :>
HI LILY hope ur doing well ^^ it's ๐anon't!! back again because i got hit by jing yuan angst beam and just had to share the brainworms...
as a preface, the way my brain works is that i love exploring things by connecting them to other things. therefore, this ask (read: yappening) is structured as more of a comparison. and since it's cross-fandom i'll realllly try my best to not infodump too much on what im comparing to while making it still coherent to anyone who doesn't know anything...
(this is LONG AS HELL but if u feel inspired to write something pls feel free to use this to reply with it or just tag me in a separate post!! uty LOL i'll colour all the actual headcanons like this so they're easier to see tho ksajhfkg)
so what i've been thinking is that current canon jing yuan's biggest hurdle to work through is his high cloud quintet-induced abandonment issues / traumas and how it influences how he acts in his private/home life. previously stuff i've sent and requested to u had stuff along the lines of a significant other being a precious constant in his life would provide a valuable place for him to be just "jing yuan" and not "the general", but the issue with the hcq falling out is that even within that friendship there was no separation between "jing yuan" and his title (i assume just a cloud knight?) i feel like this would make it super hard for him to fully process and be one of the biggest reasons why he has such a tough time identifying "who is who" in the first place. therefore if he had a s/o during the stellaron crisis when his friends reappear in his life.... yikes......
the way i've best understood it is that he's grieved people who are still alive (dan feng โ dan heng, yingxing โ blade) + those he'd thought had LITERALLY died (cough jingliu) and seeing them would restart his grief cycle. and i feel like more than any other stage of grief, he'd dwell in depression.
here comes the comparison... no idea if you watch jjk but i shall do my best with the explanations okokok.
let me cook: jing yuan and gojo parallelisms
specifically season 2 episode 9!! (spoilers ahead for those who haven't watched?)
OH also brief summary of gojo for the uninitiated โ mr white hair blue eyes has a crazy combination of rare powers (limitless โ the manipulation of space, his specific powers can be compared to a magnet's ability to 'attract' and 'repel' and another secret third thing + six eyes โ acute perception of cursed energy which lets him use limitless more effectively) and is therefore dubbed the strongest sorcerer of the current age of jujutsu. the first 4 episodes focuses on his high school era, how he gained the resolve he has as a sorcerer in the time of the main story. particularly through how his falling out with his friend geto affected him
1: "general" and "the strongest" as reductive titles
so basically on the left, the introduction of s2e9 is like a camcorder video of the cast answering "what do you think of gojo?" and their answers all ending up being "he's the strongest!" and on the right, screenshots from the hsr wiki of jing yuan's 3rd character story and what the general public of the luofu seem to think of him.
i find it so interesting that even jing yuan's own character stories are occupied by hear-say... there's seriously so much we don't know about him because of how much everyone else's perception clouds places we could have learnt more about him. everyone's voice lines about him has "i heard" etc. to me, the fact that it's even in his own character stories is representative of how it clouds his own self-perception too.
later on in the episode there's this gorgeous frame of gojo stopping in his tracks as he looks at his reflection in the eye of the prison-realm (a sentient trap... cube.... thing... yeah idk how to explain this one im sorry)
and the effect is that his face and by proxy his own identity is like a "void." MUAH. CHEF'S KISS. MY FAVOURITE MANGA PANEL EVER...
>> circling back to jing yuan, i feel like losing the high cloud quintet has worsened his disillusionment of himself since he doesn't get to meet people outside of his work. all travel is business, bonds are diplomacy. not to say that fu xuan and yukong etc. aren't genuine friends, but i don't think it helps that they knew him as "general" first and "jing yuan" second. there's no one left who knows himself better than him, and he doesn't know himself that well either.
2: friends as foils and their (exploited) sole weaknesses
this one's really a no-brainer at first glance but i really like how it's utilised in each narrative so i'll yap about it a little (also im kinda mixing the points together but whateverrr whatever this is the best my braincells can manage at this hour. rip organisational skills.)
both sashisu (but more specifically gojo and geto as a duo) and the hcq were regarded as strong together as a team. then when the friend groups fall apart, gojo and jing yuan are seen as the strongest alone. i think jing yuan enjoys being called the dozing general or other nonsensical titles precisely because it discredits him. to be called 'strong' as an individual feels like selling those who have contributed to that strength short, and i think he'd hate that.
it's also interesting to me that both gojo and jing yuan are kinda "manipulated" using their attachments to their loyalty to those from their pasts.
it was in kenjaku's (the curse possessing geto's body) plan to exploit gojo's attachment to geto to essentially short-circuit his brain so that it could trap him in the prison realm. the way gojo's mouth curves into a smile at recognising his best friend GOSHHHHH
with jing yuan it's a little more complex but kinda along the same lines โ elio's script is written on the assumption that jing yuan would close one eye for blade and dan heng because of his personal attachments to them. but more than that, i think the fact that jing yuan had to think of his own friends as pawns in his plan is something that would continue to quietly haunt him. in the scene where he meets them he manages to mostly keep his composure, save for snapping at yanqing. but i'd like to think that prior to this meeting, when he's quietly strategising at his desk or when the thought first crossed his mind he must've hated himself so so much for it. and especially after. i think he'd not be in the right headspace to even make it up to yanqing for snapping and it'd just strain their relationship further.
speaking of yanqing...
3: children and plans for the future
im running out of energy and attention span so i'll keep it CONDENSED sorry !!!!
both of them see the next generation as hopes for breaking the cycles of suffering that happened to them as a result of their respective societies (the way jujutsu society treats young sorcerers as the cloud knights are to the xianzhou which are literal warships). both keep the next generation close to them because they see themselves in them.
++ gojo takes off his blindfold in the screenshot to reveal that he's been crying in his sleep while dreaming of the past arc with geto and his high school life. by extension i think these 2 have "unrestful sleep" in common. jing yuan's naps are never restful enough for him to dream and his thoughts are restless to the point where he can't stay asleep for unbroken periods of time in the night. i think the constant naps are also a conscious decision, maybe a part of him is afraid to dream of the past.
ok separate head canon i didn't know where else to slot in,
i think that jing yuan's hair ribbon was at first a cute thing to imitate jingliu out of admiration + maybe even a gift from the rest of the quintet members. then it becomes a part of an everyday ritual to remember them and why he sticks to his duties. additionally, when he's stressed he forgets to take it off and it (wordplay absolutely intended) really gets to his head.
1.4k words jesus christ im sorry that was a lot. but thank you if you read all of that LMAO oihogho nfvmygdoh sorry im truly not normal about my white-haired doomed faves
Hi again ๐ anon!! :) First of all: please never apologize for length, this was SUCH a good read. I could genuinely feel how much thought you put into this, and the way you structured everything made it super easy to follow (even for me, who is still only in season 1 of JJK ๐ญ). I particularly liked how you explained the Jing Yuan and Gojo parallels and how you used the screenshots to put emphasis on certain points.
Also I love the way your brain works (my brain is like that too, btw :D). Connecting characters across different stories like this adds so much depth. And the way you explained Gojo was so good that now I genuinely want to continue the anime asap.
Iโll mostly focus on your Jing Yuan points for now since I donโt know Gojo well enough yet, but I absolutely want to come back to those parallels once Iโm caught up, because the way you explained them already made so much sense to me and justโฆ made me really curious.
1) โGeneralโ and โThe Strongestโ
First of all: The frame from the anime really is gorgeous. And thank you for attaching the manga panel as well. Ahh!
And the screenshots where others talk about Gojo and Jing Yuan were so telling even without the text explanation. When you always just hear/read โthe strongestโ it really doesn't leave much room for anything else. Also: The repeated โI heardโ / "People sayโ from several characters bit hurt me a bit because Jing Yuan meets so many people daily but heโs still shrouded in mystery.
I mean, even from the interactions there are in the game, I always think: โWait. But I need to know more. Donโt leave it at that." And it emphasizes the sense of distance so well. Jing Yuan is approachable and supportive, yes, and he also cares a lot. But people not only respect him, they also keep their distance because they think they have to or because they donโt really get the chance to get close to him (or because hierarchy doesnโt allow it).
In the end, Jing Yuan is the General and within this context this doesn't leave much room for anything else because otherwise there's always the chance that people might respect him less... which is risky. And both he and people know that.
As for what you wrote: This part especiallyโฆ hurt in the best way.
I completely agree with you that Jing Yuanโs identity is heavily filtered through perception, and the fact that even his own character stories rely so much on hearsay says so much about how little space there is for โjust Jing Yuanโ to exist.
Thereโs always that distance. And what makes it worse is that heโs so good at maintaining it.
He speaks calmly, he reassures others, he carries everything with this quiet composureโฆ but exactly because of that, you can feel that there are things underneath he never fully lets surface. Itโs not that he isnโt affected, itโs that heโs learned how to carry it in a way that doesnโt disrupt anything around him.
And like you said, losing the High Cloud Quintet only amplifies that.
Because they were the ones who knew him before he became what he is now. Before the title, before the responsibility fully settled in. And now thereโs no one left who truly shares that version of him.
Which makes the question of โwho is Jing Yuan without the General?โ feel even moreโฆ fragile. :( Look, I just want him to have someone to talk to about such things. Where he doesnโt have to stay composed and can justโฆ be. :(
2) friends as foils and their (exploited) sole weaknesses
This part was SO good.
Especially your point about Jing Yuan hating being reduced to โstrongโ as an individual. It really does feel like something he would quietly reject, because his strength was never something he sees as his alone.
And the idea that he had to treat people like Blade and Dan Heng as pieces in a strategyโฆ Thatโs the part that gets me.
Because like you said, he keeps his composure in the moment. He does what needs to be done. Though, when you look closely at what he says vs how he looks in those screenshots you attached, itโs noticeable that heโs really trying his best to stay composed there. Also in the screenshot where he apologizes. Even though thereโs this almost-smile, he looks almost haunted... or maybe thatโs just my interpretation, but it really feels that way in context. You still feel that something's bothering him.
But I fully agree that the real impact of that would hit in private moments.
When heโs alone. When he doesnโt have to be the General.
Thatโs when the weight of it settles in: And I think thatโs the kind of thing he wouldnโt talk about. But he carries it with him, of course, and that makes me all soft.
Also your comparison to Gojo being exploited through attachment?? That parallel works so well. That moment of recognition being used against himโฆ yeah. That kind of emotional vulnerability being weaponized is such a strong thematic overlap.
3) children and plans for the future
Omg, I love this connection so much. And the screenshot of Jing Yuan and Yanqing is so beautiful to illustrate this. First of all, I love symbolism so much and the fact they are standing there in the sunlight and there are trees in the background. All of this signals hope and life. And then Yanqingโs energy, the way he asks โbut thatโs the road you took, right general?" And Jing Yuan just looks down at him softly but still with his quiet strength (since he stands there upright).
Jing Yuan guiding the next generation always felt very natural to me, but the way you phrased itโas breaking cycles of suffering (will I ever be able to think about the word "cycle" without tearing up? The answer is no ๐ญ)โadds another layer to it.
Because itโs not just mentorship.
Itโs:
โข prevention
โข protection
โข hope that things donโt repeat
And I think youโre absolutely right that he sees parts of himself in them. Especially Yanqing.
Which also makes moments where that relationship strains (like you mentioned earlier) even more painful, because itโs not just about duty. Itโs personal.
Sleep + exhaustion
This one hit HARD. The Gojo screenshot... omg. His eyes!!! You see the glistening. And they look so intense.
I knew the Jing Yuan one, of course, but looking at it again in this context really hit different. I mean, on the surface, he looks as if he's napping, and he is, but you see this subtle unease around his eyes. And ahh.
Going back to what you wrote. Your take on his sleep habits is honestly one of my favorite parts of this entire ask.
The idea that:
โข his naps are intentional
โข his sleep is fragmented
โข and that part of him might avoid dreaming altogether
is soโฆ fitting.
Because he canโt fully rest. Even his way of resting feels like something controlled. Measured. Just enough to function but never enough to fully let go.
And that says so much about how much he carries.
Side note: Seriously, I just want to tug him into bed and give him a hug, so he can rest well. :( :D
Hair ribbon:
I LOVE THIS. This is such a soft but painful headcanon.
Starting as something lighthearted or affectionateโฆ and then slowly turning into something symbolic, something grounding, something he keeps as a quiet reminderโฆ
That fits so well with how he handles memory and loss.
Small rituals and subtle things but still meaningful.
Honestly, this entire analysis just made me:
โข miss Jing Yuan more
โข want to write him again
โข and also continue JJK immediately because your explanation of Gojo was way too compelling ๐ญ
And also: white-haired, emotionally burdened characters really are a pattern for both of us, huhโฆ ๐
And please, always feel free to send things like this. I genuinely love reading your thoughts, and you have such a strong way of understanding characters and putting it into words.
Also: have you watched episode 3 of Witch Hat Atelier yet? :D I finally watched episode 2 and I love the way magic (the rules/limits, the seals etc.) is explained there. The water theme in the episode made me laugh so much.
Both when Qifrey gives her water and later when she summons it :D. (Side note: Whatโs up with Qifreyโs shirt? Itโs an interesting choice for sure.) The atelier already gives me such strong found family vibes, and Iโm really curious where itโs going next (also still very tempted to pick up the manga ๐).
reblogging it here on my writing blog because all that yapping was me from my main account as an anon on a friend's blog! this was more of a character study thing by comparing gojo and jing yuan, so enjoy :p
[also if anyone was curious how i came to the headcanons i did in this post!]
hello~~
thank you for the support on my posts <3 as for the anons who have sent stuff into my askbox, i'll do my best to get back to each of you over the course of this week! feel free to claim any emoji to identify yourselves with ๐ (so far only ๐พ has been claimed!)
aside from the requests, one of my next few posts will probably be about ashveil? i've been thinking about him too much recently so i might as well turn it into a post LOL
stay tuned for more :>>
i dug up these hsr chats i made a super long time ago, more under the cut since i can't collate them properly...
**everything can be read as platonic/romantic up to your preference
a/n: hello!! jing yuan has been one of my favourite hsr characters since the start of the game, he's the reason i started playing and was my first 5 star! i refuse to take him out of my team even now HAHA. this list of head canons have been brewing since way long ago. soooome of these might sound a little familiar if you know me as ๐ anon on a certain other author's blog, but i digress!
tags: headcanons, a mix of fluff and hurt/comfort and light angst

1. his sleeping/napping habits
i feel like most people tend to characterise him as a generally sleepy dude and kinda leave it at that โoutlining how he tends to sleep in and refuses to let s/o leave the bed, "5 more minutes" kinda thing. but after some deeper thinking i actually think it's an instance of characterisation that's so hidden in plain sight that no one really chooses to look further into it?
what i mean is, napping/sleeping that much and still being tired is absolutely not normal. one must wonder how that would absolutely wreck his circadian rhythm, i mean... if you're sleeping so much in the day, how could you sleep at night? and so, that's my head canon! jing yuan is unable to sleep for long periods of time in the night uninterrupted because of his over-napping. the quality of his sleep is so poor, which is why he feels so sleepy and tired all the time.
to go the angsty route, i think this is a habit he recognises is destructive to his health but continues to do so anyway. it could just be that he's so bored with his everyday life that the only escapes from his day he can find are in those brief naps. it could also be that he genuinely avoids deeper sleep for drifting into dreams of the past. but at the end of the day, the general's true thoughts are only ever known to himself (which i'm sure is the biggest burden one could bear.)
which is why i think that having a significant other would actually "force" him to regulate his sleeping a little? with his schedule being so busy, i can imagine that the only time he gets to spend with them would be the lazy mornings, shared lunches and afternoon tea escapes, but most importantly winding down and sleeping. rest becomes all the more precious. he'd still wake in the middle of the night at random intervals, but just the sight of someone he cares about sleeping peacefully next to him is enough to coax him into falling back asleep and joining them in dreamland.
2. the titles of the general
actually this is something i think about a lot regarding him, the fact that everyone close to him (even yanqing, who's basically his adopted son) calls him "general." everyone still in his life knows him title-first, and it's baked into how they perceive and interact with him. there's likely a lot of grief about it, and inversely he secretly enjoys whatever unserious nicknames people come up with โlike "dozing general".
it takes away from his image, discredits him from being The Generalโข๏ธ, while also personalising what would otherwise just be a cold title.
i've also always found it interesting that becoming a general was never his aspiration and i wonder if that adds more to the impostor syndrome? not to say that he feels like he doesn't deserve it or hasn't proved himself to be capable of the role, i mean the disconnect of "jing yuan" from "the general". to everyone else, "jing yuan" stopped existing after the high cloud quintet fell apart and he took up the mantle. his sense of self is bound to be distorted by everyone's expectations of him to at least some degree. if he had a significant other, i think it's absolutely important that they make an effort to get to know "jing yuan", because that process would also prompt some introspection on his part that i'm sure he would've otherwise just chosen to push aside amongst all his other priorities.
"who do i become when i'm in love with this person?"
"which parts of me do they see?"
once his s/o gets to know him, their presence in his life becomes all the more important because they're his reminder of who "jing yuan" is.
additionally, i think if his significant other ever called him "general"โeven as a joke, but especially in an argumentโ that would STING. i'd imagine it'd be brought up in a situation where he's keeping certain thoughts to himself (maybe sensitive to the high cloud quintet and the stellaron crisis?) and it's driving his s/o up the wall that he's insisting on bearing the burden alone. and then it slips.
"fine then, general. i suppose even your feelings are classified."
yeouch... hearing his s/o use that title like that would be the rudest wake-up call, but i also feel like he would wallow in that shame a little before reaching out to make amends. the shame of how "general" came at the price of losing all those close to him in the past, and continues to haunt him even in the present. a slap in the face he feels like he deserves. don't worry, he'll come to talk to them eventually, but please be patient... this is probably the first relationship he's had that he actually has the chance to make amends. i'm sure he's absolutely terrified of losing anyone again โa terribly human fear that even the almighty general has.
3. jing yuan's hair
his beautiful long luscious hair is something that definitely takes careful maintenance, and i feel like that's one of the things he consciously implements as a routine to ground him. it's his form of silent meditation โthe length of the hair also serving as a physical representation of his experiences. third base is him telling his s/o about how he takes care of his hair and letting them take part in it.
as a fluffy aside (hah, fluffy like his hair) i feel like his hair covering his right eye is soo absolutely unfair. first, i think s/o would get so used to just seeing his one eye that when they finally get the chance to see the other one it would automatically fluster them. seeing how he looks at them with all the adoration in the world... in TWO EYES?? crazy. s/o is short-circuiting for sure. plus, i feel like he'd totally be the kind of guy to default to forehead kisses since he's so freaking tall. and it's genuinely unfair that his own forehead is hard to get to because it's hidden behind all that hair!! ugh!!!!
hair accessories-wise, that red ribbon has become such an iconic part of his look, seeing him without it is also one of those things that i think would fluster his s/o. fluffy untamed white hair... imagine his bedhead omg.
also, i think that jing yuan's hair ribbon was at first a cute thing to imitate jingliu out of admiration or maybe even a gift from the rest of the quintet members. since he wears it everyday and it's become part of his morning and evening routines, it then becomes a reminder of all who came before him and adds to the sense of duty he feels. additionally, when he's stressed he forgets to take it off and it (wordplay absolutely intended) really gets to his head.ย s/o, please sneak up behind him and gently remove it, thank you!
แฏโ thank you for reading! likes and reblogs appreciated, please do not reupload to other platforms!
i really wanna start posting on this blog...
hsr x reader nation... please bombard my requests and askbox with thoughts of whichever character has taken over your brains...
my personal faves include jing yuan, ashveil and boothill but i will accept ANY AND EVERY BRAINWORM YOU HAVE!!

jinu is from the 1600s this is probably a sacrilegious breach of decorum in his mind ๐ญ๐ญ also poor rumi i hope she lands on her feet like a cat (demon = cat in my head, no i will not be taking questions)
his ass prolly saw it in a k-drama once and let curiosity get the best of him god what a loser
(romance to jinu after that, probably): sure ajeossi let's get you to bed...
and now you've planted in my head the idea of jinu watching business proposal and thinking "oh so this is what romance is nowadays... samantha โ๏ธ and โ๏ธ rachel... โ๏ธโ๏ธโ๏ธโ๏ธ"
