Has Globalization done more harm or good for the promotion of human rights?

According to the dictionary, globalization is the interaction of people in a world wide scale; everyone is connected in some way. Before technology was the basis of globalization, people were much less connected and relied on face to face interaction. Nowadays we can connect with people on the other side of the world with just a simple touch. We are all affected by this rapid development, not just by what's around us but also by the way we think. So what we have to ask ourselves is, is globalization good or bad?

Everything that we do and see can be easily accessed by millions, our entire world is in our palms and so much can happen. In today's world we are nothing without technology, everything that we do is affected on technology. This also makes us realize how our personal life is on the line; the way other people treat us and express themselves towards others can drastically change in person than online. Many people abuse the power of technology and take advantage of others, such actions exploit people's rights.

Large companies such as the United Nations focus on protecting the rights of the people and make sure everyone is equal. By working against large companies that exploit people's rights, they ensure that those affected are protected in the result of globalization. Even though globalization has had some negative effects in the past, many are striving for the positive by uniting together to promote a better future. So in conclusion, even though we've had a rocky path, we are heading for the good in globalization.

The Scramble for Africa

Between 1562 and 1807 the slave trade was abolished in Africa; European ships took more than 11 million people into slavery from the West African coast to the Americas. Europeans greatly profited from the trade while the people of West Africa were devastated. It was until the 19th century that the European powers used their ambitions and ideas for economic and military need in the African coasts. Thus producing the famous “Scramble for Africa” which the Europeans felt was the only to ‘deal’ with the African continent and people.

What was the cause for this? Did millions have to die and suffer in order to produce a ‘civilized’ society that the Europeans could exchange with? What is the right and wrong way to treat people? Is violence and harm the answer? Is fear the reason behind everything? Is different necessarily bad? What measures must be taken in order to achieve what you want? Is the fine line between helping and abusing relevant? Who is the better person, the stranger that demands a change or the native that begs for peace? Is change necessarily a bad thing? To get what we want, do we have to hurt others in the process? At the end, is all the pain and suffering worth it?

In this weeks work I successfully painted and hot glued my river and rocks to my chair. I also started in the left image to creat my vine which is made out of tin foil and then wrapped in paper that will go hard later on so then I can paint it next week.

In my opinion, the concept of a cold-less world is fictional. The possibility of having a world with people who agree with each other and their choice in religion, ethnicity, race, nationality or even political choices, those are the bases of every...

Even though in today's world it isn't possible, do you think that as humans there is a chance to change? If we really want the good, can we strive for it and eventually achieve it?

I think that this is one of the best posts because it’s so simple, but has such a strong meaning. I agree with the fact that we are all so different and unique in our own way, but I don’t think that it causes tension whatsoever. People being different is so important to our world, because different minds create different things. I love meeting new people because I always learn something new, and I also think that every person has a different role in this world, just like one tree has apples, while another has oranges. Do you think diversity is a good thing? And do you think that it contributes to the fact that we can live in a cold-less world?

This clearly defines the saying "a picture can explain a thousand words". It gives such a strong impact to others that makes them evaluate their life and choices. We think something is right for us but it doesn't necessarily have to be right for others. Diversity is all around us because we each think differently, this results in a good and at the same time a bad outcome. What I don't fully understand though is your answer to the question given. Is it or is it not possible for a cold-less world? Is their a way for one of these to occur?

The summary of what I’m talking about is how there is no answer to the question “Can we live in a cold-less world?” because we are surrounded by so much people that answering that question is impossible. However, we could create a more peaceful environment by starting to work on ourselves before judging others and getting into conflicts. The two worst factors in creating tension are inforcing your opinions, religion or political views on others while not accepting their own and judging others based on their way of thinking. We also need to realise that we, as humans, are so different from each other, every person is unique and it’s not possible for us to all agree or think the same way. It’s fun to sometimes debate about certain topics with your friends or family and learn new information while still having a strong opinion about the topic and sharing it with others, it could create tension but as long as it doesn’t result in a conflict or anger it’s a good kind of tension. If we teach the next generations of acceptance and peace we will start to see a bigger change, because the way we are raised has a great impact on the opinions we form later, as adults. So instead of passing on hate towards a certain person or culture on to our children, we should teach them to accept everyone, no matter where they come from or how different they are. As long as we accept that each person is different we are on the right part to a tension-less world.

I genuinely agree to your idea of connecting certain events such as peace, to your own experiences. Your video has inspired me so much on how to accept people for who they are, and no matter how they treated you before. They will be sorry and regretful. I admire your understanding about respecting people’s opinions too. Definitely, the way people act and become depends on how the are raised. Therefore, they don’t deserve to be penalised or mistreated. It is hard to mention all of the points I agree with yours because I approve to most of it. Accepting is the key to give the world less opposition.

I don’t agree with you fully. I think going that way will help and will add some peace, but it will never make it truly peaceful. People are so different, and they grow up in different environments and different societies. We all know that sometimes we judge without even knowing or thinking. It’s in our nature. Of course we can choose to not make a big deal out of it, but that urge to judge when we see somebody in a very tight dress, but a body that weighs too much so it’s not healthy anymore, is always there. We can be able to LEARN and not say anything or start conflics, but you will never get rid of judgement no matter how hard you try.

It’s completely fine to have your own opinion, if you think that this girl shouldn’t wear that dress because she isn’t fit enough it’s your opinion and no one should try and change it. But as long as you keep it to yourself a conflict will be avoided. Her wearing that dress doesn’t affect your day, much less your life, so there is no point on starting an argument about it. I said that everyone should have their own opinion, but don’t enforce it on other people, as long as you don’t you won’t have much problems with other people.

I agree with your video. All of our conflicts are based on opinions and different interpretations of ideas. Even though it's crucial that we accept others for who they are, at the same time we have to teach others what's right from what's wrong. Yes some people might think that this is a difficult answer but they have to take a step back and realize that we could live a conflict free life if we didn't judge, but if we didn't judge at the same time there would be good and bad because, we as the people, can't judge other countries for their actions which at the same time can lead to big problems and conflicts. This subject is very touchy that she expect many questions and answers. At the end though, I admire your point of view and I feel that people should pay more attention.

Even though you're point that it's impossible for the world to be cold-less, does this also mean that there is no chance in the future of a cold-less world? Can people actually change for the good and help make this world a better place? If you think about it, not everyone is evil, not all countries are selfish and want what's just best for them.

New Year, New Blog

2013 was an unforgettable year; so much happened and so much changed. The best moment of 2013 was summer because it changed me. I was going through a really hard time and was struggling with my inner peace. My mom and dad let me go visit my best friend in Texas for 3 weeks; the trip changed my life for the good. I became happier and I realized the good and bad in my life and what I had to change. It wasn't easy, but I did it. I'm still struggling with my own inner problems and conflicts but I feel like I've improved so much since last year. So much changed in such a little time; my friends changed, my family changed and most importantly I changed. I moved here to Ghana and even though I was very worried and scared I know now that everything's going to be ok. You just have to be positive and keep moving forward no matter what. Don't let what others think of you affect you because at the end of the day YOUR opinion is the only one that matters. This 2014 I'm setting a personal goal; don't be afraid of what others think, just be yourself and have fun. The important thing in life is to build relationships with others and to be happy. I want to be able to finish this year and look back and be proud of myself because of everything that I've accomplished. My favorite quote that keeps me happy is Romans 8:18 "The pain you've been feeling can't compare to the joy that's coming"
