i love it when im rereading a story and i find these little breadcrumbs of foreshadowing the author left. everytime im like âohoho!!!! i wouldve gotten that before if i had the big picture!!! and now i do!!! delightful!!!â and idk i just love being able to read the same story twice but have two different experiences. i like when a story has so many layers that it can keep you entertained for a long time as you unravel all its secret nooks and crannies. thats a good story.
@blueforthevirus
you just summed up my post in one meme and im in love with you for it
Itâs okay to not want to have sex ever. Itâs okay to never even try it.
I was 23 before it even occurred to me that not starting with sex ever was an option. The feeling of relief was so great I actually cried.Â
You donât have to if you donât want to. You can have a fine live without ever having sex, I promise you.Â
Also, itâs okay to never date anyone ever. Itâs okay to never even try it if you donât want to.Â
I wrote a masterâs thesis on intentionally single people, and the number of them that said in various ways, âI didnât know not dating people was even an option at firstâ was absolutely tragic. They honestly thought they had no choice and it never occurred to them that opting out was even a possibility available to them. Â
People honestly believe these are life experience you are required to have AND THEY ARE NOT.
You can just not have sex. You can just not date people. You can completely by-pass one or both of those things. Neither of those things are required to be healthy, happy, normal, mature, fulfilled, or any of the other bullshit notions that get attached to these things.Â
Sex positivity is about bodily agency which includes the choice to NOT/NEVER have sex, so inclusion of asexual/celibate/sex repulsed people will always be a pillar of any real discussion of sex positivity and sexual freedom.
i think when u clean your house it should stay clean forever. what do u mean i have to do it again
âItâs easy to assumeâ: someoneâs misconception is about to be amiably corrected
âItâs tempting to assumeâ: someoneâs assumption is about to be criticized
âItâs comforting to assumeâ: someoneâs assumption is going to be read for filth
@21st-century-minutiae something for your blog?
The above is explaining three semantically similar statements with different connotations, in decreasing order of prevalence. In the early twenty-first century, native English speakers would understand the connotations implicitly, and would not need the detailed explanation of the above, which draws from the pattern.
In all cases, these statements serve as the prologue to some correction for a mistaken assumption, as explained above.
In the first case, the word "easy" is used to emphasize that the mistake is common, natural, and understandable, and that there is no shame for being mistaken on the given matter of topic. This is a very common turn of phrase.
In the second case, the word "tempting" is used to emphasize that the mistake is born out of some desirable motive. The biases that caused one to form the mistaken assumption as potentially sympathetic to the corrector. This is an less common, but known, turn of phrase, implying a harsher critique.
In the third case, the word "comforting" is used to emphasize that that the only reason someone is making an assumption is because they are coddling their own biases, even though any attempt at thinking things through would prove it irrational. It is the equivalent of accusing someone of sticking their head in the sand, like an allegorical ostrich. "Read for filth" is an idiomatic expression meaning to offer full, unfiltered criticism of something, ripping it apart. This is even less common to use, but the point would be understood as being a prelude to the harshest criticism of the three.
Woag they put me in the rhetoric museum
love doing something I call âthe big leaf testâ where I put my hand on a leaf and if the leaf is bigger than my hand I go damn thatâs crazy
Okay, fine, I'll say it. I'll speak my mind. Meow meow meow meow meow.
mobility aids and glasses AND MEDICATION should be free for everyone
So how much longer are we gonna pretend "higher than normal call volume" is a thing that exists. I think its normal call volume actually and you just arent hiring enough people. I think if you experience higher than normal for a very long time its no longer higher than normal its just normal and youve failed to adjust accordingly
this is my one wild and precious life fucckkkkkkk fuckkkkkk fucckcckkkkkkk
sometimes it feels like life goes by too quickly, and that it's going to end before it gets better
Take comfort in the context of the entire poem, which is about mindfulness (not accomplishment or productivity):
The Summer Day
by Mary Oliver
Who made the world?
Who made the swan, and the black bear?
Who made the grasshopper?
This grasshopper, I mean--
the one who has flung herself out of the grass,
the one who is eating sugar out of my hand,
who is moving her jaws back and forth instead of up and down--
who is gazing around with her enormous and complicated eyes.
Now she lifts her pale forearms and thoroughly washes her face.
Now she snaps her wings open, and floats away.
I don't know exactly what a prayer is.
I do know how to pay attention, how to fall down
into the grass, how to kneel in the grass,
how to be idle and blessed, how to stroll through the fields,
which is what I have been doing all day.
Tell me, what else should I have done?
Doesn't everything die at last, and too soon?
Tell me, what is it you plan to do
With your one wild and precious life?
i think when u clean your house it should stay clean forever. what do u mean i have to do it again
you used to be able to get a job just by circling a listing in a newspaper in red pen
Man I miss free the nipple. Its getting warmer and we donât even have free the nipple anymore
feminism has backslid so hard in recent years people don't even know what free the nipple means anymore
To clarify for those who don't know, "free the nipple" isn't about going braless, it's about going topless
No shirt, no bra, completely bare torso, just like cis men are allowed to
It's about desexualizing breasts and "female presenting nipples" and not being criminalized for our bodies if we want to go topless because it's a million damn degrees out. This was a popular growing movement that was still widely known a decade ago!
And the fact that not wearing a bra is so discouraged and stigmatized that people think the movement was about being able to go braless under your shirt in public rather than about being able to not wear a shirt at all says a lot about how far we've backslid in the past decade
joining the war on kids reading any book they want on the side of kids reading any book they want. simply you will be fine. it's even good to be confronted with things you don't understand and even find upsetting, uncomfortable and difficult. it's a surprise tool that will help you later.

literally ok so not a funny story but kind of funny? when I was nine I encountered rape in a book and I was like hey mom whatâs this mean and she explained it and I was like oh. gross. and then like two weeks later a girl on the bus abruptly disclosed her csa and we were all like ????? what ???? but I was like wait hang on thereâs a word for that âïžđ€Â and explained what it meant and that it was illegal and that you could talk to a teacher or my mom if it had happened to you and everyone was like ohhhhh I see I see and very somberly comforted the girl (she was safe she was removed from her home and living with my neighbor at the time so it wasnât Urgent)
And this is a perfect illustration of why it is important for kids to read or variety of things, and why abusers donât want them to.
really good tiktok

Girl, just do it fat. Donât wait until youâve lost enough weight. Youâre worthy of taking up the space that you fill. Live your life now. Donât wait for some future version of yourself that you think will be more deserving. You have every right to pursue your passions and dreams just as you are today. Your worth isnât tied to a number on a scale or the size of your clothes; it is inherent in who you are. Youâre allowed to be seen, heard, and celebrated in whatever body you inhabit right now. Donât let anyone or anything convince you for too long. So go out. Do it fat! Wear the clothes you love, pursue the opportunities that excite you, and live unapologetically. Thereâs no reason to put off living the life that you want, waiting for a moment that youâre not even sure will come. You deserve to be happy and fulfilled just as you are, and the world needs you exactly as you are today. Everything good that has ever happened to you, happened in this body. Girl, just do it fat.
