If his pre-existing frown could frown harder, it would with the teen's rude remark. But he supposed he has a fault for even thinking out loud.

"Sure, if you can fight." he rolled his eyes at the added disclaimer. "Who names a weapon pokemon anyway? It doesn't sound very threatening."

"None of the above." his voice is flat, a lack of emotion actually in his voice as he towers over the other. though in terms of bulk the other had him beat with his youth and vitality.

"If you get caught, it will cause a delay for my research. So find new ways to not get caught."

The lack of affect in such a vague sentence would usually worry Jim, if only he wasn't so focused on the fact that this man didn't seem to want anything more from him. Well, except for asking the impossible of staying out of trouble.

"Your "research", right. What kind of study needs teenage merfolk evading the guards? I mean jeez, how illegal is your research?"

Badou isn't exactly interested in the fish, like, food is food sure, but he's not the most confident in cooking something like that...so it's cash. It's always, always cash. He'd been waiting outside the area, considering this whole idea, whether or not it's worth it, but someone approaches him.

"What do you have in mind? I mean you certainly seem...like you'd do alright. Why do you even need me?"

While the man's words were likely meant to be mere comment, Jim took it as a compliment. Someone thought he looked capable. That was worth a genuine smile, tinged with cockiness though it may be.

"That's the point! Do you know how easy it is to be brushed off as having an unfair advantage when people think you can speak to fish? I don't even know where they get that from."

Pouting his lips, he added, "Humans don't usually turn on each other so easily. Imagine how surprised they'll be when I attach your hook to the biggest fish around!"

"He's with me." Sun says when he noticed the merfolk being surrounded by his allied people. Sun didn't really care much for his kingdom, really. He was his own person, but the one good thing about being a part of a kingdom was this. He can help others get out of sticky situations they managed to unfortunately put themselves in.

After a few words are exchanged, Sun turns on his heels and his monkey tail wrap around the boy's wrist. "Don't look back. Follow me close." The monkey beastskin can tell that eyes are still on them. He doesn't say anything more. Not until at least they are finally away from prying eyes.

"Were you trying to get caught?"

"Hey—" the teen began to interject, only to pause at the feeling of his sea sponge friend nudging and grumbling beneath his jacket collar. It seemed Morph was onto something, considering the longer Jim stood silently pouting, the less those guards seemed to view him as trouble.

And when he was tugged along by a strong monkey tail, Jim had no choice but to follow. He obeyed his unexpected saviour's instructions not to glance behind, instead focusing on walking steady since he was practically handcuffed to someone half a foot taller than him.

Only once they other man spoke did Jim sputter out a question of his own.

"Wait, are you serious?!" he all but huffed, irate at the implications. "No one saw me until you showed up like a mother hen!"

i'm overwhelmed by life events atm so i thank y'all for your patience! i'm trying to keep up with my replies but as you may be able to tell, it's been a busy time. i love writing this guy though and i look forward to the moments when i have the energy & wherewithal to do that (´• ᴥ •`)

I respect the fact that you have other things going on in your life beyond answering our thread. And sometimes people have writer’s block. I get that.

Take your time replying to me and don’t feel guilty.

I’d rather you took your time and were proud and happy with your reply than sending me a rushed one that you have writer’s remorse about later that makes it even more likely that thread will get dropped.

And even if a thread does get dropped, that doesn’t mean we can’t keep roleplaying. We can always start something new from a different angle.

His eyes were on the guards now, and many other people within the area. At times, there was a glimmer of something different that few people actually possess within the place.

"The guards would slowly get used, to your antics and capture you eventually. And then what, you leave those who trust you in peril. Sooner or later you will get caught."

Although his lips remained downturned, they shifted to form a slight pout rather than a true frown. With his eyebrows raised, Jim regarded the stranger further, finding his negative opinions on nobility worth intrigue.

"You don't care much for authority, do you?" Letting out a sigh, he continued. "That or you're part of the Guild."

"What, come to remind me not to mess things up for you guys? Or are you trying to psych me out so I get caught and land up in more debt with you?" he provoked the other with a sharp tone, though his voice betrayed his exhaustion.
