Once upon a time

Stephen Strange was a great surgeon, but he was also a dickhead. So when a car accident caused permanent damage to his hands, it seemed like Karma came back to him. With the accident came the downfall of his career, but also sparked an obsession to find a solution to his problems. Strange traveled throughout the world to find something, anything to get back to his old life, but instead of magical pills, he found real magic. His quest lead him to Tibet , where he met wizards who offered him to teach him to become a respected magician. He accepted and eventually inherited the title of Sorcerer Supreme of the Earth’s dimension.

From this point on, he dedicated his life to others. Strange in many ways became the protector of the world against many magical threats even before the dawn of the known Avengers. Strange returned to New York. 177A Bleecker Street, Greenwich Village precisely and began to make himself known by the SHIELD and superhero community. His presence was of great help during the attack of the Chitauris, despite him not being able to aid to close the portal, a man can have a foot in multiple dimensions, but have his hands full with one single situation.

Key to success

Strange went back to protecting the world from mystic threats after the Skrulls, making sure that the New York Sanctum was stable and continuing to protect this realm like it was meant to. It was because of this that he did not partake in Lagos or any other missions, instead focusing on being the Sorcerer Supreme. He did get a message from Wanda on how to find her and Kitty and went to help aid in their rescue, only to find that his pupil had done a pretty good job by herself. After Lagos, Doctor Strange did not sign the SHPA, believing that being a master of the mystic arts didn’t constitute needing to follow the laws of the realm. Instead, he took Wanda in and continued to train her to harness her abilities.

Updates :

After being sick for years and fixing it with magic, Strange had to deal with the consequences of his actions. The spell he used to cure himself did some bad impacts on his soul. He hid it for a time before finally deciding to do something about it as an attempt the keep his soul. His solution was to cut himself from any magic, making him no longer a sorcerer, unable to see and channel magic energy of any sort. 

On the paper, he’s still the Sorcerer Supreme of this realm, and revealed his new condition to only a short list of people. He knows that the title will be given to someone, soon enough.

He still lives at the NY Sanctum, and occupy his days as a medical and magical advisor.

"Eddorynn ? ... I have not thought about that in so long. " She looked up a bit, memories slowly flooding in. "So much did happen there, but then we were younger...and I more naive." she stated. "But it was a trip I remember with fondness, if not for the part where you almost became King. " she smiled and looked back at him. "However, how about somewhere we have never been before, here or there... now or then. Somewhere we can make memories without it being already weighed by a past that can bring comparaison to mind. " she insisted. "Somewhere, we can learn to love each other properly again without the toxicity that cancered our marriage these past years." She stated. "So how about somewhere here on Earth ? I have not seen much of it despite it being sort of a Home. "

Those memories were indeed precious, a representation of what they were together, how they could love. His smile widened at her words, she was right, so right. It was important to keep those memories just like they were and build something new far from this kind of expectation. "Earth it will be then." He agreed with a slow nod, thinking about the different places he could show her. "My only wish is to time-travel then, leave the Earth to another supreme, and focus on healing our marriage." He asked. "India and Nebraska are two places I would like to show you. But we could start with some countries in Europe, I barely know them." Strange shared with a faraway look.

"I know a version of him he has not been for a millenia. You have nursed him back to health for months. You would know his mind set better than me. " She sighed. "He had refused to give me his magic as a fix .... if he retains his memories, he will not be happy with him, because I did what all who tried to bring him down did : erase him. " she added and nodded. It would be a problem for another day. She know could focus on her a bit and her husband. " Well, how about you support me in finding a location for a little vacation ? Just the two of us ? Somewhere we can make happier and new memories to start healing ?"

Despite all those months, Strange was yet unsure about his own knowledge of the god. His relationship with Loki couldn't be compared to the one Clea had with him. They were always the god of mischief in front of the supreme sorcerer of Earth before just Loki and Strange. "I suppose we will have to see when it will be time." He closed the subject. His eyes locked on the lake, Strange didn't expect this kind of proposition, he looked back at her, a bit surprised. When was the last time they shared that kind of vacation? Their honeymoon? "It would be great." He finally replied, despite their conversation, Strange was only realizing now how serious she was about fixing their wedding. It wasn't just nice words to hear. "Out of time would be best." He offered with a smile, not wishing to be disturbed by his duties. "Do you remember Eddorynn?" He suggested, nostalgia making him smile a bit.

Tony rested an elbow on the back of the bench and let his hands linked and loose. "I'm not worried about that. " he admitted and looked at the parc, the people, a normal life. "So back to being just a doc with a normal life and normal duties. " he restated. He sometimes missed it, even as of a young age he was famous, he missed having normal people problem. "You could become a medic you know ? but then I'll have to actually force world peace....again." he joked. "Joke aside, are you going to stay in Ny then ? "

Strange wasn't so sure about this concept of normal life and normal duties. He cocked an eyebrow at his idea, thinking about it before finally replying. "I could do some consultations I suppose, be a GP or something like that." Strange didn't seem too appeal to this idea, still for the same reasons. His hands were still shaking a lot, he couldn't do what he really liked about this job, any surgery was impossible. "For the moment, yes." He sighed a bit. "I will stay at the Sanctum."

vincent stirred from his slumber, awakened not by the soft caress of sunlight but by an insatiable hunger that clawed at his stomach and scorched his throat. the intensity of his craving was palpable even before he opened his eyes, a fiery yearning that seemed to engulf him. when he finally mustered the strength to unveil his vision, he was greeted by an encompassing darkness. gradually, the contours of his surroundings emerged, revealing that he was confined within a glass enclosure.

his movements, as he lurched forward, were swift, almost frenzied. instinct eclipsed reason as an overwhelming urge drove him forward, overriding all semblance of rational thought. in this primal state, the singular fixation that gripped vincent's mind was a desperate need to consume, an indiscriminate hunger that sought satiation in anything within reach. he could not even stop to think of where he was. what had happened to him. nothing matter right now but that hunger as he made his way up the stairs of the cellar into the mansion.

the first encounter was a blur, an unfortunate monk, a transient visitor from a distant sanctum. against all odds, despite any magical defenses he may have possessed, the monk stood no chance. vincent, propelled solely by instinct, descended upon him with predatory ferocity. fangs sank deep into the monk's neck, his ending unfolding in the urgency to quell the profound thirst and hunger that had consumed vincent.

he did not know how much time had passed. hours? minutes? vincent crouched over the lifeless form, the echoes of feeding reverberating in the eerie silence. it was only when a voice called his name from behind that he began to emerge from the vampiric trance. a realization crept back— he was vincent, a person, existing in a mysterious mansion that seemed to harbor more secrets than answers.

as his senses gradually returned, he turned to face the speaker. it was stephen, yet older than when vincent last saw him. hadn't they just crossed paths an hour ago? "stephen?" he called over to him. the lifeless body of the monk fogotten for a moment, the blood that had soaked into his clothing and stained his face forgotten. "what is happening?"

Too late. He could have blame the time he took to realize that something was wrong, when he noticed that the door of the cellar was opened. But when he arrived in the corridor, Strange only blamed himself. He froze for a moment, processing the scene before finally finding back his voice. "Vincent ?" He asked, slowly walking in his direction, eyes locked on him, struggling to focus on what was important here. Nyima was important, laying there, was he dead? Vincent state was important, how? He was supposed to be dead, his body preserved but dead.

Let his emotions take the helm would not help them, so Strange shut them down. He didn't reply to the question, avoiding his gaze. He knelt next to the body and took his pulse, his expectations sadly meeting the reality. A sigh crossing his lips, Strange slowly looked at his brother, at all this blood. "How are you feeling?" He finally asked, way too seriously, locking his eyes into his. "Vincent, look at me. Focus." The doctor ordered. "Are you ok?"

Clea looked towards the lake. "What I took, what I needed, it was his whole essence, I am not sure, there is anything left of who he once was. But he is Loki, surviving is what he does. I just hope he won't mind too much if he remembers. "

A faint amused smile crossed Strange's lips. "If someone can surprise us on the matter, it is indeed him. For the being upset part, I couldn't tell, you know him better than I do." Strange paused and seemed to struggle a bit to share his thoughts. "I do not wish to overstep anymore, but please remember I'm here. If you desire any support for... any of your projects..."

Tony crossed his legs. He knew far too well what Strange was saying, he had done it himself, so many times in the past. "I can try." he honestly stated. "But you know I'm not that often on Earth anymore, so you'll have to promise me to reach out when things are not good, okay? " he added, because realistically, he could not keep a constant eye on Strange, even if he wanted to. Well, now that was a lie, if he really wanted to, Strange would really learn want a real control freak was. He took one of the pastries out and took a bite. "So , now that you're human and a civilian, are you going back to medecine ?"

Traveling to space wasn't a problem until this morning, now only a few sorcerers were able to open a portal so far away, and the Peak was protected. Strange couldn't just decide to visit his friend that easily anymore. "I will." He agreed, not even trying to fight this kind of thing, even if it made him sigh. He wasn't sure he could always be honest. "Thanks." Trying to not make a big deal of all of this, Strange seemed to be calm, maybe too calm and focused on the question, almost amused by it. "Until someone else receives the title of supreme sorcerer of this realm, I'm afraid I'll not be a civilian for the moment. But I'm thinking about giving medical and magical consultations yes." He looked down at his shaking hands. "Far from the field." Resigned but not happy about that fact, Strange tried to maintain the appearances. "And before you do, do not worry about the protections I made for the Peak or the amulet I gave you, they are still active, among all the other ones made over the years." Was he smug? Well, maybe, just quite enough knowing how seriously he did his job the past years.

On the matter of Loki, Clea was not sure what to answer. "I do, but it will take time and a bit of luck. It all consists in finding a magical essence that would restore his being into godhood. So a couple of options are there."

It made sense, the sorcerer was already thinking about those possibilities, he couldn't help himself. "I see." He replied, still lost in his thoughts. "What about his memory?" He finally asked, unsure that finding back his attributes could be enough to restore this part of his identity.

Clea crossed her legs and put her hands on her knee. "Time is not a concern for me, long roads defined my life since birth. This is really the first time I took a short cut." she admitted. She tilted her head towards him. There had been a time where she was unable to lie, it wasn't in her nature and it took her places where the consequences had been bitter. She learned to lie with Strange, for multiple reasons. "No more lies." she repeated, not sure if either of them were really a 100% honest with themselves or each other with that sentence. "what now? "

A soft and sincere smile, that was all he had to reply, the important was already said. However the question made him look away, breathing in before replying. "Now... You said it, you need to bring back Loki..." He exhaled. "One problem at the time." The husband added, more slowly. "Do you have any lead on the subject?"

"Ah the thing you hate more ..." Tony smiled, although there was no malice in his smile. He leaned towards Strange. "Letting fate decide for you. " he added as an explanation. He finally touched one of the pastries and took it in. "It's a losing horse most of the time to bet on time, but I'm sure you will not be me, and go back to your addictions that soon after having put them away...it took me what ? Over a decade ?... You're quicker than I am." he scoffed. "But really, what do you need ? "

Strange smiled at the comment, what could he say? Tony knew him well. "Even if I would want to, I'm living with an absolute control freak who can do magic, no chance I can fall back into those." Wong was worse than a parent figure, but he still loved him. He hesitated at the question, staring a little longer at the parc before glancing at his friend and taking a pastry. "Well, last time I lost what I was judging like my gift, I isolated myself and became a total jerk to the ones I cared about." He started, casually before taking a breath and adding a little bit more seriousness to his words. "So... Can you keep an eye on me? So I don't make the same mistakes."

"Tired to the point of exhaustion or tired I'm gonna finally find some sleep ? " Tony crossed his hands in front of him. "So the drip finally stopped..." he commented and licked his lips and nodded his head. " Will it work ? Will it save your life ...or is it a temporary fix until it all come back to explode in your face? " asked the director of sword.

"Probably the first one for the moment, let's only say I took my first monthly boost of EPO to come here." He confessed before drinking some of his coffee. "On paper it should. I cut myself from what was creating the side effects. I don't know if I can heal or if the damages are permanent. I guess only time will tell us."

"Ah , I teleported here as fast as Rocket could launch me. " the genius replied with a mix of seriousness and lightness. He came to sit down next to Strange, letting the pastries rest between them. "Your message, seemed quite urgent, so I did not really want to waste time. " the man looked Strange over. "Are you ok? "

He could teleport now? That was new. It also was something the "sorcerer" would miss sooner than later. "Tired." He first replied, thinking about how he could say it. "I retired... kind of." He finally said, taking his coffee before staring at it in between his shaky hands. "No more mystic arts."

The smile flattered from her lips when he became serious again. She sat back down on her rock and crossed her legs. She looked at Strange with kinder eyes. "I want you to spend your last years, months , weeks, days, in piece and surrounded by love...and when you'll join the other side, to have no regrets, no sorrow and no burden." She tilted her head and went back to the lake. "I would wnat you to forgive me and me to forgive you ...eventually. " she sighed. "But wishes are never meant to come true without a cost. " She blinked and looked back at Strange. "So I just hope for the best possible outcome and will nurture your trust and your love ... and I will have to leave to save the dark dimension and name a regent so I don't have to be torn between here and there. "

Those wishes definitively sounded like happy fairy tails. If this hypothetical future stole a small smile from the sorcerer, he stayed unsure about them. Could they really mend what they have done? Sometimes the damage was simply too big to be fixed, Strange knew it way too well. He sighed and returned next to her, sitting down, his attention on the lake. Mixed emotions filling his mind, even how nice her desire sounded about him, about them, he wasn't sure if he was sharing the same feeling. Forgiveness wasn't easy, even with a good heart, even despite the love he had for her. "It sounds like a long road." He finally shared and looked down before adding. "But not an impossible one." It was his way of agreeing on everything she just said, at least trying so they could both end up with no regrets. He looked back at her, taking the time to stare at the details. "No more lies."

"Are you sure , you know what you're doing? " was the question that Tony asked Rocket before being zapped out of existence for a few seconds. A middle finger was the last thing he saw before blinking. He was nowhere near the milky way or Earth when he had gotten the message from Strange. True to his word, he had planned on coming back, but it would have taken weeks if Rocket hadn't come up with his idea.

When he opened his eyes and smelled the sewage that was Central Park , he told himself that he never doubted Rocket. He made his way through the park, not really sure where they were supposed to meet. He finally saw the man on a bench after more than half an hour of searching. He approached and saw that he was napping. "Stephen? " he asked and shook his shoulder gently. He anticipated a moment of micropanic. "Hello there, yes, it's Tony, hi. "

Weak against Morphee's attraction, Strange ended up sleeping faster than he would have thought. He woke up with a little start. He registered Tony, the park, the bench, and quickly remembered. Right, he called him, that was it. "Hi." He articulated and straightened up a bit before checking his watch then Tony one more time. "For someone supposedly in space, you're not that late." He joked around while still surfacing from his dreams.

A simple morning.

It was done. I figured it out, somehow. It probably wasn't the best solution, yet it was the one he had for now. He couldn't have risked it, he couldn't have waited anymore so he sacrificed before losing his strength to do so. No more magic, no more connection to any esoteric realms. Strange was the supreme sorcerer only by title since now a little less than 2 hours. It took all night, all night of rituals to seal his powers in a safe place because that was his solution, extract everything but not delete it. He made up a spell for that, which was a freaking genius move from him. New spells weren't easy. But at least now, his soul was safe, the curse had nothing to hold to anymore. Old spells and charms were now linked to the pocket dimension he created, nourishing from the magic he put there, it was enough to hold concentration spells he had done over time, the ones around the sanctums, around objects, around a few people. And just like that, even if he wasn't a practitioner of the mystic arts, Strange still had some commands on the ambient magical energies of his realm, his spell dealing with it from the pocket dimension. It was a question of time before his title would be given to someone else, but for now, it was better than just giving up his job. Only a few knew, and even fewer were supposed to know about what he just did, at least for the moment, yet he still called his friend.

Sitting down on a bench in Central Park, Strange looked tired, despite the golden apple he ate for his first breakfast, it wasn't enough to cope with everything his body was adjusting. He felt surprisingly okay with his new situation, everything was so calm, so silent. He couldn't tell if he was afraid or just relieved, probably a little bit of both. The simple fact that he had to take the subway and walk to reach this bench was confusing. With pastries and drinks on his left, he simply waited for Tony to show up, giving up after a few minutes to take a nap, almost hoping that his friend would come late.

Clea simply looked at Strange while he was talking and smiled. She knew what as going to come from his mouth and it had still be tamed. "Has it helped you to word it ? " she asked in return. She did not seem affected by it, not that she did not care, but she knew on what he was angry and it wasn't her actions, it was his. "Stephen, I know you sometimes forget it, but you are still but a man. A man with flaws and good intention , and a good heart. Those do not mix well together, and as I said, I do not hold any ressentment towards you for that" she stood also up. "But if you insist on punishement, fine...have it. " and she shoved him not with magic, but with her body into the lake. "How's the cold shower? " she asked.

Did it? Help? Strange wasn't sure. After all, he never felt good with words, because those weren't enough to share how he was feeling, but at least now they were speaking. Even if it sounds too easy to use the excuse of being a man with flaws this time, she wasn't wrong but it couldn't be enough to take all the blame. "Oh please, since when being just a man is a good excuse to act like a jackass with my wife?" He talked back with some attitude, his anger showing up. What he didn't expect was the shove. He ended up on his ass, cold and wet, a surprised look on his face. She seriously dared?! And Cloaky didn't react uh? Alright, it was a good kick to his anger and thoughts, but fucking. "Cold." He replied after a brief moment, standing up and looking more pissed than what he was before. "What do you wish Clea? For us this time." He asked while leaving the lake, his magic drying his clothes.

Thor hadn't meant it. It was an accident. He had simply attempted to walk home when some foolish Midgardians had mistaken him for a commoner and attempted to mug him. All he did was protect himself but the madness within him grew and the next thing he knew, one of the attackers had flown into the wall beside him. That was when he called Doctor Strange, hoping the healer part of him could do something, but his worst fears had been realized. "Please, Doctor, there must be something."

Strange already knew it was impossible, yet he checked the body, especially the visible wound on the victim's neck and head. "His neck is broken and his spinal cord is touched. Meaning his brain gets no oxygen since the impact, even if I would try to heal his wound, his brain cells are already dead. His head also suffered from a big traumatism. It's not something I can heal Thor, I'm really sorry." The sorcerer sighed. "If it can help, he died during the impact, he didn't suffer." It was the best he could offer.
