10 Great Cars Fandom Things That Happened to Me in 2017
Cars 3 came out, and, like any well-balanced person, I saw it five times in theatres (uh, a personal record and then some). Once, weeping by myself. Then with a friend whoād never seen Cars. Then with my car, at the drive-in. Then clear across town, right before it went out of theatres. Then I drove 150 miles to see it with @stickersandsally, in a small cute town in Colorado. <3
Discovered that I really like drawing cute, fat cars, and proceeded to draw hundreds of them, despite not having really drawn before and not having any prior interest in drawing.Ā
Wrote my first Cars fan fictionāsomething Iād thought about doing in 2006 and then again in 2011, but never consummated. Between now and June, Iāve now written over 60k and over 30 fanfics for Cars. <33333333333 I consider myself a writer first and foremost, so this bigĀ āol library Iāve found myself in possession of is really special to me.
Joined Tumblr, Discord, and Cars fandom!!! Without which I never would have created anywhere near so much content for Cars, or had the opportunity to indulge in everyone elseās art and fic and headcanon and gifs and pics and all of the things. I am so grateful to have been able to share this half-year with youāwhether you lurk or we chat or anywhere in between. YOU ROCK, AND YOU KNOW THAT. <3 I did not anticipate in the least that Tumblr would become my main social media of 2017, Cars would become my main fandom, or that Iād ever have the privilege of answering even one ask.
I started collecting die-casts. Iād had some from Cars 1, but I didnāt start collectingĀ collecting anyone (besides Lightning) until this year. Because of the random fanfics and the over-elaborate diecast photos, I feel like I have a much deeper relationship/much thicker headcanon space for so many of the characters. They are all my babies now.
I commissioned art for the first time ever, from three lovely friends: Otis on Mars from @texdinoco; perplexed Lightning from @halpdevon; and Lightning and Storm and koi from @softlight289!
Someone was inspired to draw art based on something Iād said, which has never happened to me before, and which TOTALLY blew my mind. *_____* The lovely @bavvfishpotato drew my headcanon that Mack plays Pokemon and has a bunch of Level 100 Dunsparce! XD
I got really into NASCAR, for reasons Iāve already posted about, and have already written all the race dates into my 2018 planner.
This isnāt related to Cars fandom except for the part where it is, but last summer (July 2016) I experienced the fly off road and get stranded in small town with tow truck, sheriff, and jailkeep-cum-motel owner part of Cars. This technically totaled my car (in that I still drove it across the country three times between then and its final repairs, but these repairs cost more than my car was technicallyĀ worth), but I finally got all the damage repaired. I love my baby more than ever, because he took the hit, kept me safe, kept on truckinā, and he is beautiful. (Also, guys, itās unreal now nice an un-fucked suspension is. Holy wow!)Ā 20 states and 172,000 miles strong!
