We can never repeat this enough, but the fires in France right now were always preventable.

Every step of the way, from fighting against global warming to buying more canadairs to raising more funds and awareness amongst the population as to what might start a fire : it was all completely preventable.

At every single fucking check the government failed to put the most basic protections into place so that it wouldn't happen, and now that it's happening they still fail to fight against it.

This is the real "insecurity", the knowledge that the people in power would rather send the cops after the firefighters who dared to ask for the means to do their job instead of taking any of our concerns seriously and actually protecting us as is their duty.

There is no democracy if its people are burning.

We're not angry enough.

On ne le répètera jamais assez, mais les feux de forêts qui ravagent actuellement la France ont toujours été prévisibles et auraient pu être évités.

À chaque étape, qu'il s'agisse de la lutte contre le réchauffement climatique, le fait d'acheter plus de canadairs, de lever plus de fonds ou de faire des campagnes de prévention auprès de la population : tout aurait pu être évité.

Et à chaque étape le gouvernement a été incapable de mettre en place même les protections les plus simples pour ne pas que ça arrive. Et maintenant que les feux sont là, ils sont incapables de lutter contre eux.

La vrai "insécurité" actuellement en France, c'est de savoir que les personnes au pouvoir préfèrent envoyer la police face aux pompiers qui manifestent pour avoir plus de moyens au lien de prendre en compte les inquiétudes de la France entière et de nous protéger comme est leur devoir.

Il n'y a pas de démocratie dans un pays où le peuple est en feu.

Notre colère n'est pas seulement justifiée, elle est nécessaire.

So I showed this to a physicist and they were like "Oh! Yes! It's a figure from Fred Espenak's very old paper where he did a bunch of eclipse graphics! I've been looking at these my entire internet life, basically, for every solar eclipse! They called him Mr. Eclipse. He just passed away recently 🥺"

Anyway apparently Mr. Eclipse made 5000 years' worth of solar eclipse graphics, which you can find the simpler versions of here

So now instead of laughing at NASA for their outdated graphics I'm emotional about Mr. Eclipse and his hard work
