albusisms:
The brunette could tell his friend was surprised, he tried to hide it- but Albus didnât have to see his face to know. He knew the other well enough to know Scorpius would be shocked, probably even worried- and he should have been. He wasnât himself, he hadnât been himself for a while now- and this only proved it. Heâd never been much of a drinker, heâd never had any desire, and even when he did drink, he always made a point to stay away from fire whiskey.Â
And yet there he was, a half empty bottle clutched tightly in his hand, his arm draped around his friend as he struggled to stay upright. âMy break was fine,â he muttered as he shifted his gaze towards the ground in front of them. It was an obvious lie, but he hoped his friend would know better than to pry. It hadnât been terrible, but it was far from good- heâd spent most of it in his room, only leaving to use the restroom and to eat.Â
When he heard Scorpiusâ question, Albus couldnât help but let out a stark laugh as he glanced at his friend. It was nice to know that he cared- even if it wasnât what he wanted the other to care about, heâd take it. âI wanted to have some fun,â he responded with a small shrug as he took another sip of the bottle, attempting to keep a straight face as he downed the liquor. âIs that a bad thing?â he added, arching an eyebrow as he stared at the other. At this point it was clear that Albus was trying to get a rise out of his friend, maybe even start a fight if he was lucky.Â
Scorpius wanted to reach over and extract the bottle from Albusâs hand but he didnât think the other male would take kindly to it in his state. And their friendship had already felt fragile...he didnât want to do anything to make things worse. He wasnât sure he believed Albus about his break but he figured he could always quiz Lily about it later, sheâd know if her brother was acting strange or broodier than usual.
âThatâs good...mine was okay too. It was nice to see dad,â he said, awkwardly, not knowing what else to say. He kind of just wanted to shake Albus until he spat out what was wrong. But that wasnât like him. It was just frustrating and painful to feel like Albus was hiding something from him. They didnât hide things from each other. He felt off kilter in this situation.
He frowned at the way the brunet was looking at him, like he was challenging him to something. He crossed his arms and shook his head. âNo, of course not...but this -- is this really fun? Youâve never done this for fun before,â he said stubbornly. He couldnât help feel twinges of annoyance. He just -- he wanted Albus to be honest. âBesides, we always do things together. So is there a reason youâve been avoided me and then decided to have fun without me?â
