How do I explain to you people that interracial relationships are okay
Not every white person dating a POC is fetishizing. White people can be respectful and responsible when it comes to culture and relationships and not everyone has bad intentions.
Asian people can date Black people without you saying shit like “your kids will be so pretty” they’re not dating for pretty kids. They’re dating bc they like each other.
Someone can dress their partner in clothing from their culture if they want. Someone can take their partner to cultural events if they want.
People in relationships can share cultures, experiences and love without it being toxic or skin deep.
Their partner isn’t culturally appropriating. Their partner is being shown the ultimate form of love, bc their partner trusts them and loves them enough to share their history and heritage.
Yeah, dating someone from your culture is nice bc you automatically have similar experiences. But you’re not limited to dating people with the same experiences. Loving someone is sharing and growing and being together.
Interracial relationships aren’t always toxic, and some of y’all need to stop projecting onto other people.
👆 THIS 👆 👏👏👏
Calling ineterracial relationships toxic or fetishizing just seem like anti race mixing or racism with extra steps
This reminded me of this
i think every physically disabled person should get 200 dollar whenever someone suggests exercising more btw
Plays and short fiction are about reading the single most fucked up thing you've ever encountered in 45 minutes or less and then going back to work like you didn't just meet both faces of god and satan on your lunch break
Shoutout to people who speak "overly formally." You deserve to express yourself in whatever way feels most natural and fulfilling for you. The way you speak isn't pompous, annoying, or mockable; it's just how you communicate, and there's nothing wrong with that. Your voice adds creativity and diversity to this world, and I think that's amazing.
We gonna for true true !!
Awaab Ishak's death should be a "defining moment for the housing sector", a coroner concludes.
this beautiful little boy died because his housing provider killed him. this "should be a defining moment for the housing sector" but the abuse of low income, low status people who are renting and begging private and social landlords to make their homes habitable but who are without access to decent legal advice and representation keeps on happening. they get away with it 9 times out of 10. it is abhorrent
sometimes a child dies from prolonged lethal exposure to mould in his home. sometimes a block of flats burns down as we watch working-class people die on tv in what was... the most horrifying thing I've ever seen live. but most of the time it doesn't even make it into the local paper because they hate poor people and they don't care about the homes we live in. they don't care if children in social and council housing live or die. they don't care if their homes are safe. they don't care if there is enough housing for everyone. they don't care if it meets the needs of people.
biggest absolute rot at the centre of this country is the apathy towards the collapse of housing, healthcare etc. apathy as our rights are being dismantled all the time. apathy as we are being alienated from the idea that these ARE rights.
It's about to hit us here in Oklahoma and the rest of the southern states that are not used to this level of cold.
Please take this seriously if you live somewhere this is going to impact significantly.
I just sincerely hope texas' power grid doesn't fail them again.
but at least a small blessing is that this isn't bringing much precipitation with it and the worst of it will be the wind.
Anyway. Stay inside, wear layers, and bundle up. Get your cold weather shit prepped now if you haven't yet.
0.0?!
This is "if you go outside you will have frostbite in minutes" type cold, this is "your car may not start up" type cold, this is "your schoolboard should be advising you not to send your kids to school by foot" type cold, i live in Ontario and I've only ever seen it get to -44C here.
If you are in this swath of area and have never experienced this type of cold before please take whatever precautions you can. in extreme circumstances like this the best way to do that is to isolate activity to one or 2 rooms of the house that have as few outward facing windows as possible, make sure you wear lots of layers and even insulate those layers by putting wadded up paper between them, keep your extremities covered, keep your face covered, if you have blankets or pillows to spare and non-carpet flooring lay those out to help insulate the room, you can hang bath towels in front of any windows to help absorb the cold. Please limit going out to as little as possible, and if you have to make sure anything that can be covered is indeed covered, if you have to wear denim please layer something underneath it, wear ur heaviest fabrics, double up on socks and gloves if you need to, if you can get thermal underwear you can always layer those. When in highschool and had to wait at the buss I would often microwave some potatoes or perogis and keep them in my pockets to warm my hands as I waited for the bus. Keep extra blankets and candles and clothes in ur car. For whatever reason if you get wet and you're outside, please find somewhere to get inside while you dry. If you live in an area that's getting this and you don't have winter clothes like scarves or mitts take whatever thick insulating cloth you can find and use that instead. it might not be comfortable but it will be better than frostbite, I promise.
This is the type of cold that also comes in insanely dry so if you are prone to nosebleeds this will be a problem. Make sure you have moisturizer for ur hands and lip balm so you don't end up cracked and bleeding on top of freezing, its a shit combo.
I know this isn't a 100% on theme for this blog, but please take care!
People have been so kind as to add more advice on how to deal with this type of cold in the notes of this post, so don't forget to check those too.
Seriously, ceramic pot heaters. Cover your windows, dig out a terra cotta flower pot, balance it over a candle. It will not replace a fireplace but it will keep you warmer than candles
The little guy absolutely melted the plastic on both sides of him but it kept the pot vertical and heated the bathroom comfortably
The big guy kept 7 rooms warm enough for my cat, with the help of papered windows (we have acquired a second big guy, each fits 3 large candles under)
I told the people we shopped with about them, got some for my parents, and seasonal candles at Michaels are 50% off
Cover windows, stuff scarves around door frames, bring your pets and anything you want alive into your one room
Humans have not magically become harder to kill since the advent of technology; the cold has always and will always be able to do it, but fire is your friend
Candles will not leak gas or fumes, should not heavily smoke, and the terra cotta will absorb the heat for slow release and spread it out to the whole room
The pot will get fucking hot doing this, so keep your oven mitts on hand and make sure you can blow the candle out without removing it if you have to - down through the top or up through the bottom
And again… this is fire. No fabric on or near, keep away from pets and babies, do not let it fall over
If you can, paper your windows before you lose power! This will lower your heating bill! You can remove the paper when the sun is coming in through that window but it’s dark all the time anyway
Also Ontario we are getting all of the precipitation but less of the cold so be prepared to be stuck indoors or in your car if you do go out!
Wednesday it was 19° when I got up (not the feels like temp, the actual temp). My friends back in Montana woke up to weather 60° COLDER than where I was. It was -40° in Butte (again no wind chill or feels like). I really wanted to complain about how cold it was here in PDX but I was real glad I wasn’t back in Montana.
Now to be fair, PDX is not really set up for this sort of weather and it is really bad for us and our neighbors without warm places to go.
But also -40° is just bullshit to deal with and I do not miss it. (I think it got colder there as the day progressed too, but just comparing when we got up temps, yikes)
Can we normalize asking children if we can hug them?
Children deserve a right to make decisions about this sort of thing. Forcing children to hug or kiss relatives they don’t want to can not only be upsetting, but also teaches them that they should do things they’re not comfortable with to not hurt someone’s feelings. I don’t think I have to spell out why that’s a problem.
Teaching children about this is good for their emotional well being but also teaches them about consent both giving and receiving it.
Oh shit this is a rare chance to reblog this!! This only comes on the calendar once every couple of years!!
So for those of you wondering, this happens 4 times in a 28 year period. If it is not a leap year when the first day of the year is Saturday, and if it is a leap year when the first day of the year is Friday. So this will happen again in 2033, 2039, 2044, 2050, 2061, 2067, 2072, 2078, 2089, and 2095. 2100 will not be a leap year so the first calendar with this feature in the next century will be 2101, followed by 2107, 2112, 2118, 2129, and the cycle repeats.
I need this.
Reblogged last year, hoping it comes this year
