Lower Decks Appreciation Week Day #7

Free day- my favorite voice actor on the show is Tawny Newsome. She’s passionate about Trek, and she has been her entire life. She was ecstatic to play Mariner, and she co-hosts the Pod Directive, which is a blast to listen to. As for her actual voice acting, it’s emotional, genuine and utterly convincing. Mariner feels like a real person with every line, and it’s Tawny Newsome’s performance that helps seal the deal. It’s incredible to me how much voice acting was done after the pandemic started and lines were being recorded in closets and under blankets. Her excitement to be a part of the franchise is palpable, and she’s hilarious on and off the microphone.

It took me quite a bit to actually like this show (at first, I found the characters annoying -especially Mariner- and the humour really bad), but I really enjoyed the last three episodes. I look forward to season 2 !

Favorite location: This little repair bay on the Cerritos where the four of them keep their Sequoia pet project. It’s really cute they have their own little designated area to hang out and be friends, and all four of them work on the shuttle. They’ve shared laughs and drinks together, and I’m sure have procrastinated plenty.

Star Trek Lower Decks Appreciation Week Day #5

Favorite quote: “Oh, she's real. She's as real as a hopped-up Q on Captain Picard Day.”

I’m sure this was intended to be for an inspiring or dramatic quote but Qcard rights 😌 hearing this for the first time made me laugh audibly and I’m obsessed with the implications. Does Q get the equivalent of a sugar high? Everyone just knows of his massive crush on Picard? Did Q crash Captain Picard day and go bonkers? Is this a well-known incident in Starfleet? Is the protocol whenever Q shows up to tell Picard to collect his man??
