HAPPY NEW YEARS
What are your goals for the upcoming year? How will they allow you to continue the fight against trafficking?
This is how easy it is to buy a baby on the black market in Malaysia. Watch: http://aje.io/babiesforsale (via 101 East - Al Jazeera)
How easy it is to buy a baby. Because modern slavery is a myth.
Migrants who don’t have enough money to pay for their passage to Italy are sold by traffickers to Egyptians who kill them in order to sell their organs. This is according to former smuggler who has been cooperating with anti-mafia investigators in Palermo. The ANSA news agency quoted the unidentified man as saying: “The Egyptians

Hundreds of African men dreaming of a future in Europe pass through one of Gao’s three “ghettos” every month.
Some 2,000km (1,240 miles) from the Mediterranean coast, Gao is the last point of relative safety before a six-day truck journey through the desert that claims an untold number of lives.

You don't have to, I understand it is most likely a very sensitive subject for you. But if you feel comfortable with it, would you share your story?
I don't have one. I first learnt about human trafficking in senior high, in a seminar. I was shocked. To be honest, I knew about slavery and child labour and everything, but until that day I had never thought about how much money some humanoid trash make by selling people. How much pain so many people feel. How horrible it is.And that's what I want for the rest of the world. No one should have a story like that. Not even the worst person alive.
Hi! Thank you for this wonderful blog and spreading awareness. I am a trafficking victim and have been suffering to return to a normal state since. Part of it, I get very frustrated because this issue has almost no attention on it where I come from and where it happened to me. I work to spread awareness too in hopes we can make changes to this horrible crime. Thank you very much!
I will never eat another chocolate bar from.. Nestle, Hersheys now that I know that children are being used for forced labor, human trafficking and child slavery.

Hi there! Just wanted to share my thoughts on the previous anon ask. Joining/volunteering at an organization is probably the best way to help since there will be people who have extensive knowledge/experience already. But first and foremost, educate yourself about human trafficking and then teach others. If you're a student, you could start a club at your school to raise awareness and host fundraisers to donate to a nonprofit that fights human trafficking.
I totally agree. :)(It's so great to see that more people care about this issue, really. :) )
Hey! Just wanted to thank you so much for raising awareness about stuff like this..just one question..i really want to help kids like this are find the kidnappers who do these things, any idea what the name of the job would be called? Like finding the kidnappers and finding the kids..
I'm not really doing anything, to be honest. Just letting people know. :)Helping people (not only the kids, because people of every age, both men and women can and are being held) can be achieved by various ways.
There are Anti-Trafficking organisations. You can volunteer in a variety of roles. You can persue a fellowship with campaigns and projects (eg the Polaris Project). Depending on where you are you have different options. In India there is the Prajwala group. COSA are doing an amazing work in Southeast Asia. In Thailand there is Urban Light. And there are more, all over the world. For example UNESCO.Finding the culprits is extremely dangerous. So you have to think very carefully before working on that field. The FBI is the best option, in my opinion. You have to be a pro, otherwise you won't be able to help in those situations.Remember, you can always help the victims in many many ways.
Everyone who reads this, feel free to reply and I'll publish your answer the minute I see it. :)
Dear Activists,
We invite you to join us at the 6th Annual Stop the Modern Slavery WalkFest, Saturday, October 4, on the National Mall! This community-powered event will raise awareness and funds in the fight against human trafficking. Event proceeds directly benefit locally based organizations working to end modern slavery. The event will include: luminary speakers, a walk around the Washington Monument, live music, and a resource fair with dozens of anti-trafficking organizations. The previous events have raised over $375,000 and attracted over 7,5000 community members and walkers. This year’s goal is to raise $100,000 for beneficiaries and include 2,000 participants in WalkFest.

Want to be involved? WalkFest is organized entirely by the community volunteers of DC Stop Modern Slavery. We do this in order to set an example of what’s possible when passionate people get organized.
