Bar maids are polite but they are not your buddies
Yesterday when i was working this guy made me feel so uncomfortable.Ā
I was the only person behind the bar, so i was the only member of staff that was serving. I was happy and cheerful as i should be and this group of 5 guys, probably about 40 ish, come in. We chatted a bit, they had been on a walking tour of the pubs in villages near by so they told me a bit about that and i told them a bit about the town where i work. All friendly and and what not, as you would expect on a nice saturday afternoon in a quiet pub.Ā
Iām paid to be polite to people, and also i am a generally polite person. So the fact i was chatting to them had no double meaning or anything. At all.
Once i had served them all they asked where was nice to sit, as there are several rooms and a big garden and i suggested the garden because it was a nice day. They said thanks, paid for their drinks and headed out so i went back to reading or whatever i was doing, as there was no one else in the pub. The last to leave asked would i like to come and join them. As they had been friendly i smiled but said no thank you, i couldnt leave the bar.
he then asked again, come on come and join us outside!
I again politely said no, i was working.Ā
he then left to join his friends.
He did however come back several times to specifically ask me to join them, culminating in saying ājust lock up the bar no one will know, come outside and chat!ā
HOW MANY TIMES DO I HAVE TO SAY IT
i was only being polite because i have to beĀ it is myĀ job to make you feel welcome but that job is at the bar, im not going to hang out with you when i donāt know you, youāre double my age, there is no one else around and you are actingĀ hella creepy.
What was most frustrating was he acted like i was supposed to, like i would be happy and enjoy spending time with a group of men i didnāt know drinking.
Now obviously if he had made any advances at me, especially if they had been sexual, i would have called the police and my boss. he didnāt do that, but his behaviour was enough to make me feel uncomfortable in my place of work and if im honest, pretty unsafe too.
i donāt really know how to round this off but yeah.
bar maids are polite but they are not your buddies, just like a cashier at tescos isnāt going to come home and make dinner with you with the food they rung through for you.
