he’s trying to remember the L A S T time he’s laid his head to the pillow–a terrible thing to be losing sleep. mulder knows that he’s CLOSE, so CLOSE that he can TASTE it upon tongue. he’s not about to give up on THIS X: FILE. though, the government try as it may is trying to put an END to this case. experts are going to be called in. it’s CLEAR that some things? can’t be done through normal channels—something mulder is ALL to aware of. a call is placed as an expert is reached. “fox mulder…” he mumbles through the phone fingers rubbing temples as he TRIES to make out the accent. “i just …NO–” as the person misunderstands, “a cryptologist!–” voice firming up, “YES that…” days spill into one another as he eagerly awaits the cryptologist that can hopefully offer SOME help. doesn’t help that phones are tapped & certain ACTIONS have been taken. mulder KNOWS he’s a target, and as he’s shoving down cheap chinese food SOMETHING that never ends well; he’ll regret it come morning. there’s a knock on the door, brow furrows as eyes go to check the time. it’s AFTER office hours, as he sighs, & sets cardboard container down he goes to open the door. “hate to let you know it’s AFTER hours…that wonderful time when -I- get to eat cheap chinese and ponder about JUST how much i’ll regret it in the morning”

Carmen rarely ever did favors. Mostly because there were very few people to whom she owed favors to. Even fewer favors did she owe to anyone in the FBI. Having worked mostly in information operations, she hadn’t had much contact with the FBI. Or at least not enough for her to come to need their help. But it just happened that one of her former bosses in NETWARCOM did owe someone in the FBI a favor. Not having enough manpower to lend him some help instead he had called her, the now freelance cryptographer.
When he called her she happened to be in Boston, visiting her husband’s grave as she did each year. The cryptographer was a workaholic yet she would refrain from doing any work when she was in Boston. Thus she only accepted challenging work and she very much doubted that the FBI could offer her any challenge at all. But after much debating on the phone with her former boss he finally told her to do it as a favor to him. Now not only did she owe him a favor but the Commander was one of the very few people she was somewhat close to. So with a sigh she agreed much to the relief of the Commander.
Few more phone calls were made, her trip was arranged. With new information acquired, being a hacker too, without a problem she reached the file of the special agent she would be working with. Now, that was not allowed but she had done it many times and she always made sure that her hack would go unnoticed. She did do it just to be sure she wouldn’t be working with an idiot.
It was a prove that he was no idiot that she now stood in front of the FBI building. Dressed sharply she entered the building. Being few hours after working hours she was stopped few times but flashing the special FBI I.D she had been given few days she proceeded without a problem.
Her heel echoed as she looked for the office of Special Agent Mulder. Finally she stopped once she found the office. With a poker face she knocked the door and awaited for him to open. Her poker face did not falter as he pointed out that it was rather late and opened the door.
“I am aware of the time, Agent Mulder” she calmly remarked, in an air that showed she really did not care of his routine for the night. “But I have no doubt that you understand not only that I have just arrived to the town but that I also had to be cautious” she told him in her firm way of speaking. “I am Carmen Burina” she finally said holding out her gloved hand. “I was asked to offer my services as a cryptographer” she added.

"Good Morning, Doctor"
Immediately, Clint hunched his shoulders and attempted to look smaller. He didn’t like the way the womans eyes were tracing over his body, it reminded him too much of what his father used to do. Without a doubt this new mom was going to take...
Despite the urge she hold up and did not hug him. Because she wanted to tell him that all would be fine that she wouldn't let him feel bad again. But by her own experience she knew that he could flinch at an sudden physical contact, she'd have to wait before they had a solid bond. "One thing..." She repeats a little quietly. "Well, I promise you that you will have way more things at your new home" she tells him with a smile. "And of course is okay if you want to keep it" she says. "I would love to see your room" she adds holding her hand for him to take and lead the way.
Open to All!
Immediately, Clint hunched his shoulders and attempted to look smaller. He didn’t like the way the womans eyes were tracing over his body, it reminded him too much of what his father used to do. Without a doubt this new mom was going to take him home and fuck him just like daddy used to. Feeling trapped under her gaze, he focused his eyes once more on the hem of his shirt. The child had gotten used to being only physically attacked as he stayed in the orphanage; he wasn’t eager to go back to something more. Of course, he didn’t voice any of what he was thinking, he simply replied “nice ta meet you too, Carmen.” From now on, he planned to be as good as possible in order to avoid her wrath or punishments. “You know, I can be a-a really, really good kid.” he said bravely, approaching her.
Something inside her cringes as she realizes that indeed that feeling she hadn't been sure about was indeed fear. It was much like her childhood. It had lead her to trust no one as she grew up and bottle up all her emotions. A robot. That was what she had been transformed to, smart but heartless. Or at least that was as she went off and tried to push away the pain every time. That was why she wanted to adopt on the fşrst place. If she could save a kid from what she had become the she would. As he approached her she took a better look at him, liking that he was brave. "I have no doubt about that, Clint, I am sure you are a good kid" she says still with the smile. "I don't see you have your stuff here wşth you. Why don't we go and pack your stuff together? We can get to know each other more as we do so!" she suggests trying her best to get him to like her and to ease him because she would never ever hurt him.
Open to All!
Nervously, he opened his mouth, then clicked it shut again, hopping down from the chair. The woman who worked at the orphanage was still in the room with them, so if this new person was going to hit him, it probably wouldn’t be now; so this was a good chance to ask some questions. “Um, I’m… I’m Clint.” He fiddled with his shirt, “wass your name?” Was that an okay thing to ask?
The only thing that could top her cryptography skills was her capacity of ignoring people. So even if the orphanage director is still there she takes a moment to examine the boy. Though she knows that by becoming his "mother" she will become familiar with all his features soon, she takes them in carefully. Her attention especially is on his eyes. There was an undying curiosity there which she had always liked about kids but something else...Fear? It takes all of her to stop memories from her own childhood fill her mind. Not now, she thinks. "Carmen" she replies finally, that was her legal name as she appeared as 'dead' under her birth name but she would probably end telling it to him one day. "And nice to meet you, Clint" she adds, her always so statuesque face cracks a heartfelt smile for the kid.
