toons are made up entirely of ichor, if they get injured or under a large amount of stress they tend to lose their bright color. since they are kind of maleable (though they dont tend to look it) sometimes they can subconsciously change the shape and size of their body to suit a prolongued period of time where they might need it, think of it like a psuedo evolutionary change happening very rapidly.

this rendition of goob also lost one of his hands in an event where half the extraction team was lost, the bandage part on that hand was made from sprouts scarf and later sprout found him a new hand, though it doesnt match very well.
