“And what, risk getting my ass kicked instead? Yea, fat chance.” It’s spoken casually, “If you want an apology you can just ask nicely.” Eyes look her up and down before drifting away. The cigarette is brough to his lips as he takes another hit, he gets lost staring at the waterfall though the moment she speaks once more, his gaze is brought back slowly. Patrick finds her…interesting, different…and he can’t help but be drawn in, his lips curling at her words. If only they were true. He wasn’t afraid, after all, such things weren’t real…she was bluffing.
It seems the moment she sets off the flash, balled fists rub his eyes, an annoying scoff escaping. Patrick’s hands return to his sides as he squints at her with a heavy brow. “Why should I?” The coy tone is gone, instead one far more serious rising, “I was just trying to be nice to you…hell, I was gonna say sorry to ya, and this is the thanks I get.” There’s a scoff, his head shaking in disbelief, “—and don’t lie. Curses aren’t real. They’re bullshit..”
When he looked at her, Lydia felt her hackles practically raise in response. Slowly lowering her camera even as she refused to back down. Refused to look away. Even if she resented her family, she was still a Deetz at heart. And that meant she had a stubborn streak a mile wide. Arms folding over her chest as she stared defiantly up at him, she shifted just enough to give them a respectable space once more. Expression sour. Eyes narrowing just a touch to match his own annoyance.
“ You shouldn’t say stuff like that. Haven’t you seen a horror movie? That’s how you really get cursed, ” it was so blandly stated, voice flat and brow cocked almost in a challenge. “ But I suppose it’s a hard lesson everyone learns sooner or later. Even if you were going to apologize to me, how am I supposed to actually believe it? ” Head cocked as she sized him up, a faint flick of her gaze over his shoulder - calculating distances. “ Given the less than warm welcome this town has given me, do you honestly expect me to assume differently with you? You’ll have to forgive me if I’m more than a touch defensive. ”
