I feel like a large part of the dynamic between Evan Regulus and Barty is how out of pocket and codependent they are, but like in such a chaotic and silly way sometimes. Like for example, Evan and Barty operate on the ‘favorite system’ which is pretty much like treating your mom as base in tag but regulus is the mother in this situation. Like when they get in a squabble or are just being stupid they run around regulus like he’s base and regulus could not be bothered at all. But the ‘favorite’ thing comes in because depending on the day, regulus is much more willing to let one of them slide than the other solely because it’s funny to watch the one not being favored get upset about it. There’s no rhyme or reason to who he picks as his ‘favorite’ that day and they can’t bribe him to change his mind, it’s just a fact of their life that some days Evan can get away with murder and get head pats instead of a talking to or an eye roll no matter what he does while other days it’s Barty that gets the privilege. It’s custom that whoever realizes they’re the favorite is an absolute menace about it the rest of the day. They rub it in the loser’s face in any way they can, and the loser usually just pouts about it because it doesn’t matter and they’ll get a turn later. It’s completely for shits and giggles and doesn’t actually influence any of the threes’ opinions on each other or moods at all, it’s literally just juvenile fun that they take seriously for the bit.

my silly two cents on why I don’t think ao3 ever needs an official app are that

it works just fine as it is

if it has an app, that means it has to be approved by appstore / google play store, that means there’s a very real and high chance of appstore and play store “banning specific contents from ao3”, leading to censorship. so this goes against ao3’s core principles of being against censorship.

I think we’re so used to every single thing being an app that we don’t realize not everything has to be an app. the “should ao3 has an app or not” discourse wasn’t around before until recently, and there’s a reason for that.

also worth mentioning that all the “ao3 apps” you see are third-party apps (and these apps usually have ads). they are not affiliated with the actual ao3 in any way, shape or form. so be very careful giving these apps your login info and/or other personal information.

Regulus has tons of those little plastic ducks and whenever James or Sirius buy him something he gives them a plastic duck (or a few). They know there has to be a pattern to what colors/how many they get but they can't figure it out for the life of them.

The pattern is dictated by an entirely arbitrary value Regulus places on a thing on any given day (as in, the exact same sweet treat from the exact same Cafe could be worth a yellow, pink, blue, or green duck on any given day, and sometimes, when Regulus is having a particularly hard day and the sweet treat is that much better: two yellow ducks)
