If you see the quote "I refuse to share my body with a man who wouldn't defend it politically" or any variation of it floating around the internet — it was Kat Blaque who originally said it and she would really appreciate it if people gave her proper credit for it but it's gone viral on a lot of different platforms and most of the people sharing it don't know it's from her or choose not to credit her on purpose.

I don’t think it’s good writing to have one literal punching bag of a character constantly be subjected to physical, psychological, and sexual abuse by MULTIPLE characters, dedicate a whole episode to this premise in the first season of the show, and then have literally no change in anyone’s behavior by the end of the second season

It stands out so much, especially when those same abuser characters interact with other parts of the main cast and no one else suffers at all

It’s fine if you want to write torture porn; I bet it’s probably cathartic or even therapeutic, but you need to be honest about what you’re doing

I should add that my assumption is that the character arc is trying to be about Angel being in an abusive relationship and struggling to leave it despite wanting to become a better person, and if it actually were that, I would be fine with it

But it’s not! Other characters constantly, violently abuse and take advantage of Angel, they either participate in or at the very least enable the sexual abuse, and the plot is more focused on fleshing out the actual abusers than it is giving Angel any agency in his life

In S1, Angel is shown to not stick up for his friends because he fears what Val with do in retaliation to him or them, but there’s a moment later where he does stand up to Val without worry of the repercussions, which is supposed the be the moment that signifies that Angel has stopped letting fear control him

In S2, all of that just resets: Angel is treated like a doormat while the story works on humanizing his abusers and implying potential reasoning for their behavior, ending in Angel being drugged, raped, and left half-conscious in a penthouse. It’s just awful.

I’m not even going to touch that all of this is happening in the context of sex work, I don’t think you could write a more anti-sex work character if you tried

I’m rewatching Hazbin Hotel S1 and I genuinely think the pacing of the show is ruined by these constant awful songs

I barely remembered any of these plot points and I assume I was too distracted during my first watchthrough by how dreadful every single song is

I actually like both songs in S1E4 (Poison and Loser, Baby) and I think they both do good jobs at providing character depth but I think it’s wasteful that they’re both shoved in the same 24-min episode

That’s the main thing: why are there multiple songs per episode?? You only had 8 episodes to tell this story and you decide to waste time with songs????

For example, why do we have the song More Than Anything wrapping up an estranged father-daughter story thread in literally the same episode that Lucifer is introduced, like less than 20 minutes later? If you’re so rushed to squeeze things into eight episodes, surely you just cut down on some of these plot lines to beef up your core story

Also all of Carmine’s songs suck ass, the VA probably sings fine but they throw her into just the least flattering songs possible

Almost being 30, my country falling apart, and general distress about my life all clicked into my newest, actually-good-for-me hobby this year: birdwatching

It’s honestly been a game changer for me in terms of getting outside, getting unplugged from the internet, and just being more attentive to nature (the birding-to-conservationist pipeline is incredible strong, don’t be surprised if you’re suddenly buying a bunch of native plants and doing research into your region’s conservation efforts)
