I talked with someone who works in book publishing, and they mentioned they get a lot of AI slop these days. I asked how they know what's human-written, and they said that there's one thing that will reveal AI slop without error, and that's the author not knowing their own creation.

A real author can talk about their story for hours. They love to elaborate every character, every twist, every detail. Because those existed in their head long before they ever made it to the paper. They were loved before they were written.

AI slop wasn't. It was just vomited into existence.

Someone who generates their story with AI will never bond with their story the way real writers do. That's why they may not know what to say when they're asked why did the character do this, or even remember the scene in the first place. It's something they read, not something they wrote. And to a writer, those are not the same.

There's a unique bond between the creator and the creation. If your writing doesn't come of you, you'll always lack that.

I keep hearing soon we won't be able to tell. And perhaps, in a superficial sense, that's true. But there is a difference. It's not em dashes or repeated words. It's whether the story was made by someone who loves it and cares about it.

If the writer's eyes light up when asked why did the character do that? and they start their very own Ted Talk about that specific scene...

then it's real.

Edit: I did NOT expect this post to get this much attention. I'm truly sorry I made some people feel I'm doubting their genuinity as writers. This was not the point of this post; actually it was the opposite. My words aren't flawless, either; sometimes they come out wrong. I despise "AI witchunts" (if you read my earlier posts about this matter, you know). I tried to say, your love for your art is what makes it yours. No matter how you show it. I believe art is a connection between souls; a machine can't replicate that. It felt nice to hear that professionals in the industry (at least this one person) still search for that in what they choose to publish, too. That's why I wanted to share.

Edit 3. (the last one, I promise) I'm restricting the comments for now to let this conversation cool down a bit. Once more; I did NOT mean, nor did the person I spoke with, that you need to remember every detail of every story or it's AI. This post is not about detecting AI. It's about love and passion injected to art by those who create it. With "not knowing their own story" I didn't mean having a perfectly crafted marketing speech about it. I meant just... knowing it. Loving it. In any way that feels natural to us. That's how I feel about my stories, anyway.

izuku:

easy and top of the list: quirk/heroes as special interest with a potential of hyperfixation/hyperfocus of them to a certain degree. izukus in autism heaven in his room lol. infodump KING.

stims by clicking pens, pulling/biting his lip, various hand gestures/arm movements. also doodling. he loves tangles because it helps keeps his fingers from locking up while writing and chew necklaces because he ends up hurting his lips and nails a lot lol

idk i personally think hes really really really picky about his food being served a specific way or only eating like 5 foods ever due to sensory issues. he has that vibe about him.

really bad at processing and displaying his own emotions/distress but has hyper-empathy towards others!!!!! this was awful in grade school when the "weird kid" was crying over your scraped knee more than you were lol.

because of that if hes verging a meltdown or sensory overload he refuses to tell anyone and hides. not cool izuku!!!!

katsuki:

easily embaressed about showing signs of his autism so he either masks it as his personality (e.g explosion stims, echolalia, audio processing delay) or hides it all together (special interest — for izuku, his parents and inkos eyes ONLY!!!)

as previously stated i believe he likes to stim with clenching his hand (e.g using his quirk) and letting off sparkler-sized explosions.

i also think he likes small fidget toys he can hide in his pocket. echolalia is 'extras' and 'hah?!' because he likes how they sound lol. audio-processing is terrible for him so he calls everyone weird nicknames until he actually learns their name.

he has extremely low-empathy vs izukus hyper-empathy. also terrible in social situations/reading the room.

his special interest of heroes rivals izukus, but because he double-majors special interests with various chemical/science related things, he lacks the extreme hyperfixation/hyperfocus that happens for it.

autism denier #1 it took him forever to be comfortable with his diagnosis tbh. its why hes so secretive and cagey about it, except for select people.

hates hates hates anything around his neck/choking him. why he doesnt wear a tie. i think of it as a wombo combo of autism+sludge trauma.

katsuki&izuku

they have a ritual they do daily where every few hours, they share one fact from their special interest/hyperfixation at the moment. izuku always breaks the rules with 6 paragraphs and katsuki once spent 3 months only sending audio recording of his sick live drums from his new drumset.

misuki is a great mom, but so loud, so inkos house is sensory heaven for katsuki. shes always keeping low lights, quiet voice, and izukus fidget toys and various weighted items are everywhere. katsuki loves decompressing here and inko just makes him tea and some cinnamon-based treats. he has his own key lol. izuku finds it cute when katsukis all curled up on his couch with izukus handmade weighted throw.

visa versa, izuku loves katsukis house. mitsuki is the only one who can give him haircuts. masaru has a huge reference library so izuku love reading in their house, especially their books on fashion in the hero idustry. katsuki sometimes comes home from training to see izuku reading a book while upside down on the couch.

katsuki is FINE TUNED in izukunese so he ends up getting a 6th sense for pre-meltdown or pre-overload izuku based on body movements and vibes only.

katsuki is the straight man of the two until izuku gets so offended by someones lack of all might knowledge, katsuki has to step in with the infodump. they genuinely share one braincell 💥

Speed doodled the vibe of my novel for my beta with aphantasia and I'm actually kind of in love with how it turned out despite how quickly I was going.

I've been using Ellipsus for about a month. I'm genuinely very, very pleased with it. I highly suggest for anyone looking for a gdocs alternative. Especially if you use Ao3. I haven't had any issues with formatting since I switched over.

Also, switching between mobile and desktop is seamless. I love it because it allows me to write from my phone without worrying about stripped features or crazy formatting issues from copying over from notes.
